No insomnia here but major anxiety, one of the tips I use is to put on a podcast, anything to get your mind off whatever you’re thinking about, I recommend history podcasts though.
I like to listen to scary story podcasts. Ironically kinda relaxing. Specifically fictional ones like creepscast. That way you know it's fake cause trying to listen to irl will obviously have the opposite effect. This is more then likely a personal thing. All I know is some of those stories put me out like a light

Ive also been putting a bit of vaporub on nose for easier breathing and a pillow under on knees to relax them more. Doing this relaxes you and aftet the breathes, your body feels a little more tired. Usually past right out!

Also there is square breathing that calms you not only to sleep but it helps with panic attacks. Another is the grounding technique where you use each sense (hearing, smelling, etc) but you start at 5. So say 5 things you can feel around you. Then 4 things you can hear, and so forth.
When i can't turn my brain off i will sometimes go through the alphabet naming fruits/veggies and I'm usually out cold before I get to "z" (it especially helps if you concentrate hard enough you see them in your mind when you name them)
Most ppl breathe shallow ( in the sha sha lows far from the shallows now … sorry my brain lol ) Deep breathing is legit - aww hope you sleep peacefully ✨ Wish ya love and peace ✌️
I tried this and it did not work since im very self aware when i do things. So instead i opt to overworking my mind by thinking of scenarios in games,shows,movies, or anime, i essentially overwork my imagination, thinking of a whole ass story, even taking into consideration if other people would like the story and scenario. Its like a dulled down version of the army trick where you think of as many things or animals in a span of a few seconds. Anyways this trick helps me fall asleep in 5- 20 minutes, depending how long i’ve been awake. 10 hours of no sleep = 20 minutes 12 hours of no sleep = 10 minutes 12+ hours of no sleep = 5 minutes 16-20+ hours of no sleep = no need of this trick. 😂
For me if I throw all my pillows off my bed and just sleep directly on my mattress sometimes that’ll put me to sleep- hurts my neck sometimes but it’s worth it if need be
I can sleep very good and fast but I can't be sleep every nights, I will have a very bad and fully scary(like a Japanese horror movies) dreams that one time it almost gave me a little heart attack , it's really annoying.

Also take magnesium with melatonin. I dont know if you tried that yet but magnesium works well
