There are 3 more mods that I consider indispensable. The first is Ship Parachutes. This mod combined with a respawn ship pack allows for orbit deployed wheeled vehicles instead of traditional landers. It also gives the option for making jettisoned ship parts be easier to retrieve. Combine a beacon with a timer and go find your fuel pod at your leisure. The second mod I always have is Helmet - 3D HUD. While this doesn't add any buildable blocks, it contains a lot of need-to-know information on it which I find great for immersion. The gravity vector indicator is also very useful once you start building with gravity generators. And finally, S- AV Atmospheric Thruster. These thrusters are a ducted fan design (and also include a new Osprey-inspired vertical lift prop) instead of a jet and so feel more immersive to me since a jet should really require fuel to operate. They also take up a different footprint making for interesting designs (I combine these with an atmospheric flight mod to create Quinjet-like VTOL craft) and because they are fans they do not cause block heat damage. The only downside is the intake side can be blocked without consequence.
Honorable mention, Blast Door Sections. Because I tend to use a different flight mod, I need to create my own wings and I've found the blast doors look great for that. This mod adds several more options for creating just about any shape of door or wing you could ever want. I also made use of these in my NASA Shuttle build for the cargo bay doors.
Haven't played Space Engineers since before they introduced planets, so I'm pretty excited to try out all the new features, as well as these mods. Thanks!
I agree to most of these, but i would love to add a few more: - Eikesters Interior furniture mods (mess halls, toilets, bunk beds, etc, for all your RP needs) - Hydrogen Farm (In Survival, indefinitive survival is allways my goal, but jet packs need hydrogen, so sooner or later you run out of ice) - Heavy Mining Drill (A drill can´t be big enough)
Great selection of mods, some of them I haven't seen yet, especially the folding ladders, deffinitely adding those! Overall a great presentation of every mod's functionality combined with great visuals. And I'm glad to see potatoes again, looking forward to season 2!
ive been playing space engineers for a while now ,and ive always had a hard time understanding how to get the scripts working, and that video really helped. great ship really cool idea having the drop pods on a small ship! you sir have earned yourself a like and a sub :)
hello morph. watching your survival series has made me want to play space engineers! and with this video I kno what mods I should go for. I can't wait for season 2 and more potatoes!
Very nice video, there are so many mods to use in SE that its really hard to narrow it down to just 10, I also like the Corner Lights and edgless armor mod, maybe you should do a part 2 of top 10 mods for new players!
As a new player I can only say, thanks for the list and thanks to everyone posting great suggestions for other mods to try! I already love this community.
Compact Turrets is now a must have. the vanilla ones have a massive collision box on top and then that enormous base. Compact Turret ones have both much smaller. And you can actually fit five CT's into the space of three vanilla ones. Flat Atmospheric Thrusters, is exactly that. One block thick small ship thrusters. So you can have Vtol thrusters in your ship wings, without having them sticking way up above and below the wing. I'd almost suggest Azimuth's all in one, because of the huge quantity of blocks that he tweaked to be just a little better. Such as his gatling guns that have conveyor ports on all four sides.
Wow these mods are really adding something to the game. I hope that the problems with SE are soon fixed, and that you guys have time to produce Season 2.
Nah, Potatoes is the Hero. Morph is just a Human in a strange Suit with a jealous AI in it. Bit without her, he couldn't even use a Toilet! Oh and Morph: You need a Shower. xD
This is pretty funny to watch now, as a lot of the comments are suggesting mods that have now been implemented into the game. I would say i recommend the aerodynamics mod that includes "deadly reentry" and a minor speed mod (to a max of 400-800 m/s for example). I say this because the aerodynamics mod you are using requires special block, which ruins the immersion/fun a little bit. It also adds complexity to how any craft handles in atmosphere.
I guess it's been a minute since you did some Space Engineers. With how beautiful Star Citizen looks, I can't really blame you. Given what I've seen of your architectural reviews, it would be cool to see something from you about how to build an attractive ship in SE. I can get a functional ship together but I have no idea how I want to make it look. I just kind of mash blocks onto it until it doesn't look like a brick, lol.
This thing isn't "low orbit", but hey. Low orbit happens in the ionosphere, i.e. way higher up than clouds or Olympus Mons, where there is "no" atmosphere. (Read: Almost no atmosphere, so that orbits don't decay too much.) The space shuttles and the ISS are traveling in low earth orbit.
I thought it would waste a bit too much time explaining the name in the video, since the focus was mods and not the ship. The video is a bit deceptive ill admit, but flying through canyons is way more interesting than actually flying in high atmosphere where it is intended to fly before returning to "low orbit." The idea was to get into atmosphere in a gentle way, drop the pod, then use the hydrogen boosters to return to space without ever getting near the ground or danger. There you have it then, that's actually why it's called the LODV.
Morphologis Well, in that case, yes, it is an LO carrier. °^° Funny, how this is the exact reverse of what the Space Shuttles, Dreamchaser, Dragon, etc. have to do.
it must be already mentioned here but if not it must be mentioned Cython´s Energy Shields an awesome mod which gives you what its title says:working shields (preventing damage from impacting ships(be careful with shield vs shield, it could take a while), weapon damage (theyre quite weak (they run out fast especially whith warheads) but he also mentiones how to change that in the discription) and i think it also stops ateoroids), nice shield effects at the cost of energy...its a great mod which helps me a lot and brings more fun into battles (challanger vs gigant (almost indistructable) space katana = no problem) and also preventing my flight deck from gettin scratches and they aint needing to much recurces ( im playing on a 4gb ram and 7 jear old laptoband it doesent really make the game run slower(i normally play with about 10 fps... sometimes even with 1 or 2 xD)) thats the link and thank you for that video, i idnt even knew how easy those lcd panels could be configuratedsteamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=484504816&searchtext=energy+shields
nice one Morph! thanks for featuring automatic LCDs! :) you've grown a lot and it makes me happy .. keep up the great job. (also don't click on 'Create from editor' when you want to use automatic LCDs :) Clicking OK is much better ;) )
A couple of my favorite must haves are DX11 Stairwell, and Power Lines {strictly cosmetic, but awesome}, both by Darth Biomech. Sadly he has retired, but the mods still work, and I hope if they ever break, someone will take up the mantle to repair them. Stairwell specifically.
Tip from experience if any new players are reading this, If there is a script you want to use frequently without issues, Save your own copy of the script so that it will be locally stored, as the game will FREQUENTLY fail to load scripts from the workshop. Same goes for Blueprints of ships/stations. Just be sure to update it regularly if the modder adds new features.
The real time clock is nice too (saves a lcd) lets you know at a quick glance how much time before work and you should get to bed :) Happens often enough for me
So have you ever use titan engines and ligthspeed mod? Titant engine add really large engine that are more efficient in tewrm of power than the hydrogen thruster but required a lot more space (for capital ship) while the light speed mod allow you to go at speed way higher than 1000 m/s
Energy Shields are always in my game Shield generators protect you against everything from mining accidents to pirate attacks Never leave home without one
I wouldn't say the shield mods are good or great for new players, also its a top ten not 11 or 20. If he was doing top 20 then yeah shield mod would be in there along with tiered (everything), atmo drag and reentry, and the thruster control script for rotors.
As I taped this video, I expected energy shilds in first place. Because, well, I build a DROPship, with basicly no thrust at all, what is more than undoable in vanilla :)
SPQR Nemesis Nah, you can easily do it vanilla. Crumple zone, crumple zone, crumple zone. I've had a great a many botched landings with one of my craft and the fuselage survived with no to minor damage because of the long insect like landing legs. That, and the annoying but sometimes saving grace and landing gear that randomly lock at high speed impacted.
I had most of these already, but now I've subscribed to the two I missed. The tiny hydrogen tanks in the small ship mega mod pack have always seemed OP to me, I'll have to experiment with Darth Biomech's. As for other mods: No More Heavy Camo and Invisible Armor/Armor Edges are personal favourites, though I tend not to use the latter during the design stage. I also frequently use Conveyor Air Vent, Armor Panels, Armor Thrusters, various airlock blocks; and I'll admit to being a bit of an Azimuth fanboy.
I never played Space Engineers. But just from showing the craft I was already proceeding to buy it! And there's custom coding and logic circuits too?! Shit i'm sold
I appreciate your list certainly and mostly agree with it. However I believe you focused too much on planets with it. To that end I submit two additional mods more suited for the space component of Space Engineers. First is the Exploration Enhancement Mod, which REALLY brings the world to life when you get into orbit, giving you ships to fight, avoid, explore and even trade with, it's a great addition that adds countless hours of additional content because now you can actually see how the ship you built fares in numerous other situation. The Second mod is one I don't blame you for not covering because Shack has covered it extensively, that being Cython's energy shield mod, which is one of my all time favorite mods.
If I remember correctly There is a mod that tell you the damage to your ship In a LCD with green shape of your ship and red to tell you what damage And off course Shield mod
I think you should do a 11-20 mods for new players and then a 1-5 or 1-10 weapons, probably 1-5 because so many weapons mods are packs adding a variety of weapons.
Hey, was wondering if your patato's was a mod or if it was done in editing. But if you could be able to just say something and the drone does that task would be awesome.

Does this script still work? I have tried everything and I can run the script but no matter what direction I follow, nothing comes up on the LCD. Maybe 'cause its a wide LCD?
Curved structures aren't that bad in vanilla S.E. Once you know the math of calculating where to put you circle edges, it all falls into place really. Still some of that stuff I feel really should be in the vanilla game - like the small ship glass, hanger door and the aerodynamic wings, which you should give to Potatoes :P

first one sounds more like KSP then SE with that desc you gave
@@Epic24123 well it became a thing in vanilla SE, so..
You really should do a space engineers how to or tutorial series for more obscure things like installing scripts. Great video.
I like the armor thrusters mods out there. They allow for a more RCS (Reaction Control System) look/feel when it comes to thruster placement.
Haven't played Space Engineers since before they introduced planets, so I'm pretty excited to try out all the new features, as well as these mods. Thanks!
Great content Morph. Helping new users get into this dense game is a worthy endeavor.

I must say, the production quality of this video is pretty good. In these cinematic shots you made Space Engineers look incredibly beatiful!
dont forget clean glass and speed of light mod. those are really useful.
oo and clean camera feeds.
Don't need clean glass anymore. :) It was de-scratched in the last stable patch.
