It took me lots of trial and error to figure it out on my own. What I ended up coming up with was getting my bottom lip just the slightest bit deeper into the cup and aiming my airstream towards to top of the mouthpiece. The notes below C just started popping into place immediately once I felt it out.
The most easiest way is to put your bottom lip out of the mouthpiece and only have your top lip in it so it can pedal, kinda like if you drink Gatorade you only put your top lip in the bottle and your bottom lip just rests out the bottom rim
Thank you for your tip! That only seems to work with me on small mouthpieces, this is a very large mouthpiece with a 33.5mm size! The bottom shift is exactly what you’re describing but the bottom lip does not come out of the mouthpiece, its support
Thank you so much Hunter! I have just followed your Insta. I took lessons about 10 months ago for a year, but since then I’ve been trying to self-teach and network with other people!
That’s awesome! Keep it up, you’re doing really well for 3.5 years of playing. It’s nice to see other tuba players putting their knowledge on the platform!
Aw man thank you so much!! When I'm in college I'll be watching this video infinitely to help me out lol
I think my embouchure is the reason I can’t hit pedal notes but thank you I understand a little more
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask me, or DM me on Insta @samtheguy06
