This same "vet team" seems to find a horribly injured elephants at least once a week. What is going on here? The same elephant appears with different injuries every couple of months. The elephant in this video is in the exact same location as he was in the last "treatment". Something isn't right here.

I'm suffering from an abscess like that, but in my but. It's quite painful, and in an elephant it must be much more so.The relief when they drain the pus is immediate, as soon as a doctor opens the skin and the purulence drains out. Dry yourself well after showering or it will happen to you!

Seeing as how that is a wound that continues to increase inwardly, would it not be smarter to go ahead and cut a straight north to south opening and get in there with some kind of a surgical scraper spoon and peroxide then sew it up? My thinking is that if it is straight up and down any rain or trunk sprayed water is not going to mess with it, and the wound juices would be able to drain naturally with gravity.
Some individuals just heal very quickly on the surface. My mother had a hernia repaired. They sewed it up and everything was fine except that for 2 years my mother got weak, and kept feeling sickly, didn't have an appetite and ate like a bird. She used to weigh about 324# and she dropped down to about 180# - coincidentally only eating every 24 hours when I made her eat and thereby actually going into ketosis and healing her own undiagnosed diabetes mellitus type II. Diabetes does some nasty things to folks one of which is not allowing things to heal in the proper way.
Mom's skin and layers of tissue had sure enough healed or sealed up but deep inside there was a putrid cauldron bubbling. The interior of the wound was teeming with bacteria... like the depth of this wound on the elephant. The surface closed up but the inside... well, it just gives me the shivers.
They did indeed open her up and try to bubble out the inside with peroxide they also tried to stuff it with iodide(?) laden strips to pack the wound to decrease bacteria that way so that it would heal from the inside to the outside. That didn't work so they did have to cut into her again clean it all out manually with a scooper then use a vacuum sealed dressing to heal it.
