  • Heartmelting treatment to innocent elephant suffering from unspeakable pain with with traumatic abscess. This elephant was seen wandering around the forest border by the nearby villagers. The villagers suspected that there may be something wrong with the elephant. Later they found that elephant was suffering from pus oozing abscess. They quikly informed the nearest wildlife conservation office .Team of wildlife officers and a veterinary surgeon dispatched to the the location as soon as possible. At the time , the wildlife officials reached the area , the elephant was drowning in a lake to alleviate the excruciating pain from abscess. As this is a wild elephant it should be treated swiftly whenever it is found . The dedicated wild wildlife officers do not hesitate to help the majestic giants whenever they are in need and accept any challenge on behalf of elephants riski risking their lives. They reached the elephant with the help of a boat. Then darted the elephant keeping a safer distance. Elephant came ashore when the dart hits its body. Then hobbled few distance in pain.It is important to make the elephant recumbent, because injury injuries as well as the treatments are quite painful. Pain would make the elephants violent and they will attack everything that comes in their way.The veterinary surgeon slowly reached the elephant to confirm that the elephant is adequately sedated. They risk their lives to help the needy elephants. There were few cases reported earlier that some officers have been assailed by the treating elephant.
The elephant is suffering from a painful abscess. The abscess commonly occur secondarily to wound infection. They may become chronic , if not attended to in time. Before draining the abscess antibiotics were administered in to elephant's body. The objective is to boost the immunity to heal the abscess. Anti-inflammatory medicine , painkillers and multi vitamins were also administered. The actual reason for causing the abscess cannot be ascertained.Closer examination revealed oozing of thick and mild yellowish purulent material fron the infected area. The veterinary surgeon started draining the abscess by squeezing . Pus dripping copiously from the abscess No need to explain the pain and misery that the elephant has to be endured.Abscess was lanced at the lower part to establish a proper drainage. Accumulated pus were drained thoroughly using a sterile cotton swabs. The abscess pocket was further flushed with saline. The necrotic tissues in the area were also debrided. They completely drained the abscess removing the accumulated pus. After draining ,the abscess was packed with tincture iodine oinment to prevent the infections in the area. The elephant appeared to be a docile patient. After receiving the treatment, the elephant hobbled back towards the thicket crossing a road. The wildlife officers followed the elephant to track its location for further treatments. They guided him towards a safer region. Elephant was treated routinely with antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medicines. The swelling reduced dramatically. After 7 days of successive treatment, the elephant showed a marked improvement. The abscess pocket has completely resolved after 1 month. Thereby they were able to relelieve the elephant from an unspeakable suffering.

I’m pretty sure that this patient (even being stoned out of it mind on sedative) was of sound enough mind to realise that these little biped creatures were here to help. Some of that pus looked like it was under quite a bit of pressure so I can only imagine the initial relief the elephant would be feeling once it was drained.

Once again the care given to elephants is so amazing. This poor guy was suffering greatly with that huge abscess. Don’t think getting relief standing in the water was much help. There was probably so many germs in that water getting into the open wound. The kindness of the villagers to watch out for elephants in need is heartwarming. They would not get the care from the vet team if they had not been vigilant in spotting the elephant.
The vet team gives such care in following up to see that the elephant recovers properly. Great job everyone ❤

Often times we look at these giant majestic animals and forget, though not human like us with the ability to seek out help when required or to self band-aid an ailment that has become so common in moden day life. These majestic animals are considered to have self-awareness, do show great concern for dying and dead individuals of their own kind.
They say that elephant's have long memories. And with an intelligence compared to that of primates, it's no wonder they show great concern for their own safety against humanity. I still remember the caning I got as a child and that of my best friend. If I can remember something bad from 50years ago, I'm sure self-aware elephant's, also, can remember the happenings related to the loss of loved ones from the years gone by.
What I'm trying to say is, thank you to these people for putting their lives on the line for an animal that has seen the worst-case of human existence, but is now feeling the love and attention few people are brave enough to do ...
From the elephant's I thank you.

It is very well known that elephants are very intelligent, they have amazingly detailed memories- seemingly remembering individual people after long periods of time, and they are also known have complex emotions.
All of this leads me to believe that this particular elephant might have had a positive encounter with humans previously; quite possibly one where the humans helped the elephant as they did here.
From the elephant’s perspective, it is in horrible pain, is aware that it is injured and the pain only gets worse. It is approached by people who are not aggressive towards the elephant and the elephant senses that they want to help it. With how much agony the elephant it is, it has no other choice than to take its chances with the people. They seem to be hanging around, getting closer as the elephant gets exhausted and goes to sleep. The elephant wakes up knowing that something has happened, those horrible pains are not nearly as bad, and the elephant definitely feels much better. As days go on (and antibiotics are working away) the elephant realizes that it is getting better and better with each passing day. Before long, the elephant doesn’t even remember what those old, horrible pains feel like.
Then, months, years, decades later, it gets those horrible pains again. The elephant remembers that it once had those same pains, but when he went near the people and trusted them, it made those pains go away very quickly. My guess is that the elephant would approach the humans and hope for the same outcome. As a matter of fact, that could very well be why happened in this video.
Regardless of that elephant’s past or future, it is definitely awesome that those people are willing to take very serious risk to help the elephants in that area.
