Bravo with that Audi mate,,, you earned a customer for life just by being thorough, honest and a decent human being. Folk like you always come out on top. Don't worry about the Diesel,,, it just proves that you're human like the rest of us. And I think 'Sorcerers Apprentice' sounds better than 'Junior Mint'. :)
Before releasing the Audi to customer, I would inspect the cam follower on HPFP. They are crap and should be part of maintenance on these 2.0 engines. Should be replaced every 50k miles if not less. It's an easy fix and it only takes few minutes to remove. Tight but doable. I had 2007 A4 and had no idea about cam follower issue... I ended up replacing intake cam and HPFP and follower because follower wore out. Hell of a bigger job then cam follower only. It only cost me parts, I did the labor my self. Overall a good car....
@@TheMentalblockrock I tend to agree. I just got rid of a 77 F150 with a carb. I never had a boil over problem with it and it gets plenty hot here in Kansas City. I would try a carb before I wrestled with all the fuel injection pieces and parts.

I would say that any repair shop that you can just show up at out of the blue and they can start immediately working on your car is a shop that you would want to avoid.
Thank you for saving a classic and doing it right. Also, kudos on the Audi diagnosis. I spent 10 years with a TT Quattro Coupe with 6 speed manual. It was fun, but now it's Benz time. E230 Wagon. $2800.

I’m really glad you’re going back to the original engine!! And with the improvements it will be a real tribute to the car and its time and continued life!!
You are on the right path with refreshing the original engine, Car Wizard. Modernizing with fuel injection is definitely the way to go. It’s a shame people can’t extend common courtesy and use common sense when wanting to make use of your repair services.
I am not sad. I think that it is great that you are staying with the 472. Putting fuel injection on it is a good way to go. I am anxious to see how you implement it.

You may find the cause of oil consumption to be the valve cover itself. That and the PCV are the two most common areas to fail which result in high oil consumption on the 2.0T FSI, not to be confused with the newer 2.0T TFSI. The valve cover is made of plastic and the PCV system routes through it. I’ve replaced many for this exact reason. Typically a quart of oil used in less than 1000 miles. I’d be willing to bet that customer may return and need the valve cover itself replaced. Both pennies in comparison to and engine rebuild. Great approach wizard. Love the content.
I said my piece in the original video, so it's safe to say the 472 would be my choice. I did the all-GM efi swap in my 455 Delta 88 convertible. It's surprisingly easy, and well worth the work.
So glad you are going with the original engine. There is something of an aftermarket for the big old Cadillac engines and NOBODY is covering the rebuilding and/or upgrading of a Cadillac engine. Definitely following this project.
I worked in shops for 18 yrs. and you're right. It's hard to find a good, honest shop. I really took pride in the honesty and good work that we did. They wanted me to pay a $120 tow bill so they could "look at it" and decide what to do, it's a $30 part and they're the only shop that ever touched the car. It was the 1st time I ever changed the oil on this car, I've always had them do it. It breaks my heart to say I will never let them work on my cars again, I will never send another customer their way, I worked there for 10 years....

For the 472, I would also suggest doing something to lower the compression. Also, the Owners Manual commented on oil consumption, with a quart burned every 800 miles not considered excessive. Maybe use total seal rings?
Glad to see a mechanic who still looks after his customer's interest with the Audi! Great call on the Caddy. Better to keep the numbers all matching on this fine piece of automotive history.
