      You mostly hear the loud mouths who are trying to push an agenda. Unfortunately we'll have to start pushing one it seems - true climate action not the appearance of it.
      I'm ranting now, but when I was in elementary school this was a known problem and no one did shit for two decades. Now we're playing half-assed catch up where it's more important to appear to do the right thing than actually do it but cause things need to happen NOW. Two decades of time that could have been spent migrating existing infrastructure so that the EV change made sense. But noooo foresight into the future is too much to ask for. EVs out the wazoo and 83% of our country still relies on fossil fuels 😂 and individual change to renewable is a joke, only the top of the middle class and above can afford even though the mid and lower middle would benefit most.
      This wasn't an unknown. A little TINY bit of effort and critical thinking would have deduced the problem. But again, half assed attempts to change two decades late usually result in piss poor performance. Government led, publicly owned bonds and stocks into renewable investments to ensure solar, or wind, or even safer nuclear was ready when needed is not a novel concept.
      Thanks for coming to my rant.

    I lived in southern California in early 90s. Because of an ongoing drought there were all manner of public service announcements about how to conserve water. These worked so effectively that the water provider wasn't doing enough business to be profitable, so they petitioned the state to be able to raise their rates, which was done. So we got to pay MORE for LESS water.
    I don't live in California anymore...

    • @davidgudan1514
      @davidgudan1514 3 месяца назад +107

      @AndreLeBlonde1 You missed the point entirely. Your EV is still being powered by burning gas and / or coal to get your electricity if it is not sourced by nuclear power, as wind, water, and solar do not produce enough electricity and are actually worse for the environment. Solar is probably the best alternative source of electricity but still not efficient enough. Also, to produce your EV batteries is worse for the environment than the entire life's worth of environmental impact from a vehicle that uses gasoline.
      Let me also bring into this discussion of how much electricity it takes to charge those EVs versus how much electricity is available, because there isn't enough even to replace just the vehicles on the road today, and therfore also would not be able to handle the load of additional vehicle count in the future.
      Electric vehicle use is worse for the environment than gasoline and diesel, and without increased nuclear power, unable to provide the electricity needed to keep them on the road.

And coal is dirty and expensive so it died naturally. And guess what? In California, battery storage plays a growing role in the state’s electricity grid, especially during the evening when renewable sources like solar are not available. As of October 2024, California has over 13,000 megawatts (MW) of battery storage capacity. This marks a significant increase from earlier in the year, and the state continues to expand this capacity rapidly to support clean energy goals.
      Currently, battery storage systems can provide over 8,000 MW of electricity to the grid during peak evening hours. Although this is substantial, battery storage still accounts for a relatively small portion of the total grid demand. In comparison, the state uses a combination of renewable energy sources and, when necessary, non-renewable energy like natural gas to meet nighttime electricity demand.
      California aims to further increase its battery storage capacity, with projections showing the state will need 52,000 MW by 2045 to support a 100% clean energy grid .

      Do you really think that they are burning fossil fuels in these other countries and sending that electricity to California? That is basically what he is saying. • @jeremyjohnson2129
    @jeremyjohnson2129 3 месяца назад +35

    If they burned the coal or natural gas or whatever there to make the electricity, then it is carbon produced by the state. However, if they have someone else make it (at 2-3x more emissions), and then also have the emissions of the transportation, then by their metrics on paper, it says California is using less carbon/less emissions.
    They do this the same with disposal. They outsource it all to Arizona and Utah. They are still creating the same problem (technically more because they are transporting farther distances) .... but on paper it looks better.

We keep our environment healthy in the world view yet point our fingers to the manufacturing country that our business just said “Get it done and I really don’t care how it’s done. It just needs to be done below ‘this’ cost.”. If the manufacturing was done here, our regulations (if we had enough Fed regulators) would have kept the pollutants down, employees paid and treated well, etc. compared to the train wreck left across the globe.

    For anyone wondering, although this is mostly true, the United states is having a resurgence of nuclear energy, but through a large amount of smaller plants. California is also the leading state for nuclear fusion research, which would allow for even cleaner energy which uses hydrogen (one of the most abundant resources).
    Relatively recently a california university had a nuclear fusion breakthrough where for the first time in human history we have been able to create a net positive amount of energy using nuclear fusion.
    Although its easy to have a negative outlook on the state of our country, the truth is that the whole world is struggling right now with a variety of issues, but that doesnt mean that things wont get better

Solar is far from being the only source of electricity. Moreover, the United States is producing more natural gas and oil than any other time in our nations history, and exporting more oil and natural gas than any other time since 1949. Additionally, the United States has an energy trade embargo against Iran and Venezuela. All what I said is easily googled.

      The thing is, right now it is like everyone is trying to coerce the world into staying the same, or moving to some utopian ideal. But like the song goes "When happily ever after fails/and we've been poisoned by those fairy tales/and lawyers dwell on small details/and daddy (government) had to lie". Parenthesis mine.
      Utopias always fail, because human nature exists as it does. Our souls seek new horizons, but to get there we must weather the darkest times. So we will change our circumstances or be trained not to want what we want.
      Of course, to some, the horizon will always beckon.
      I will always chase it, now that I have no more allegiance to a people or a flag.
      Have peace, be well.
