    @2:04 "I had to move this one ribbon cable out of the way..." this is the most delicate step of the procedure thus far and you don't even show it or what you used to do it

    • @landonjohnson35
      @landonjohnson35 5 лет назад +10

      Brian Ferguson, yes! Me too. I thought it was just another ol cable. So I managed to do it with ease and was able to put the new analog stick in place. One problem. I can’t put the cable back in place. So I’m pretty much stuck because I can’t find a professional joy con repair anywhere. 😥

      @@landonjohnson35 Im willing to fix my right joystick it broke too and im a little thrilled about that problem, havent you tried with some tweezers? in the video he did with the joystick flexor (Ribbon) just grab the ribbon carefully because these ribbons or flexors can get easily scratched, It really pisses me off to say this but this is the most fragile console ever I barely use the switch and when I use it I dont move the joystick that hard I think Nintendo failed us with the quality

      its 2nd from the left ribbon plugged into the pcb of the joycon. theres a small flap that llocks it into place. lift it up gently and the ribbon comes loose.

    Thank you for the tips! I have one remark though. Of the 4 (+1) screws you unscrew on the inside the you only need to unscrew the 3 bronze coloured ones, the plate comes off as intended and you don't release the board that holds the buttons in place. If you remove al 5 (including the 2 smaller, grey ones), you release the board and your buttons might pop out. Getting them back into place can be challenging if you don't have the correct tools.

    • @jefflester6236
      @jefflester6236 4 месяца назад

      do not remove all those screws. First controller took me a while to get back together because it all comes apart if you remove the 5 screws. Second controller I only removed the 3 and was able to do the entire controller in about 5 minutes, even with a 2 yr old talking in my ear about how he wanted to fix the game and taking all my tools.

    This shows you how to repair the LEFT controller stick. I had broken both, and the RIGHT stick is different (only 3 internal screws, not 5 as depicted). One of the ribbon cables pulled out due to me not noticing the different configuration and it was an absolute nightmare to get it reconnected. I would consider making note of this in your video.

      Yes! My son has broken 2 and he's only 10. It's too thin and structurally flawed. Due to the small form factor, I'm not sure they could've gone with a bigger diameter stick, though. A more durable material would have been better.

    To make things clearer, only three screws need to be removed, the upper right and bottom left are recessed and only go into the motherboard below so leave those in. Also the ribbon cable black latch that was removed initially needs to be pulled up and towards you (unlike the joy con ribbon cable latch which needs to be pulled up and away from you).

    Awesome! Used this for the right Joy Con and worked great! There are 2 less screws for the battery compartment holder, and the ribbon opposite the joystick (connected to the battery compartment) is a shorter length, so you definitely need tweezers. It also helps to have a PC kit, something cheap from Amazon should suffice. Otherwise, just as advertised!

    Hey dude. Thanks for this video. I took the plunge and ordered a replacement stick. Used your video to fix my UK Joycon. Two things that are different on the Euro version
    1. The screws are mini cross head not triangle like in the US. Most web based suppliers will give you the tools you need for the job
    2. At time index 1:30 you remove the battery pack. On the Euro version you can remove the whole assembly without removing the battery pack but you have to watch the ribbon cable for the buttons above. If it pops out simply put it back in once you have fitted the new stick. There are three screws for the battery assembly. Once this is done you can move the battery part to the side and insert the new stick as noted in the video.
    One more thing .. it helps to re-calibrate the controller in settings once you have installed.
    This video was a great help and gave me confidence to fix this and save some major cash.
    Thanks

    Thank you for this video. I replaced my drifting stick with a new one using your video as reference.
    I messed up a little while doing it though...
    I accidentally moved some of the rubber that supports the face buttons (D-Pad) while the Joy-Con was open without realizing it.
    So, when I closed the joy-con after replacing the stick, one of the face buttons was stuck and wouldn't be pressed anymore lol
    I had to open it all over again to put those rubbers back in place.
    In the end everything worked fine and I have a brand new Joy-Con now :D

    I did this and it fixed the drifting issue..but with the shiny aluminum back to the stick looks like his has a dent in it as if someone sat on the joycon or extreme pressure was applied to it. which is why it broke on him. That shouldn't have a dent in it. So no it's not really that fragile. at 1:52 you can see him point directly at that dent i'm talking about.

    • @hailjigglypuff4771

    Thanks for the video! It was very helpful. I don't typically take apart electronics and I was pretty annoyed when my left joy con joystick started to malfunction. I bought the parts on eBay and your video made it seem very simple.
    I completely agree about the ribbon cable. They are pretty delicate but not too hard to work with. I thought the joystick ribbon cable from the new joystick would go into the holder farther than it did. I tried for a while to push it in. eventually I gave up but it seems to be working just fine.

    Thanks for this video, it really helped me replace my analog sticks. To note though, this video only shows the left joycon. The right is a bit different. There are only 3 screws holding the battery tray in place and you have to be very careful of the cable connecting the ZR button to the controller board. As well, all of the cables are held/secured in place with a lever of sorts that locks the connector to the cable. The lever should be 'open' when disconnecting/connecting the cables and 'closed' before putting everything back together.

    Just replaced the analog today on my daughter's left joycon. It wasn't clicking in. Overall a pretty easy job, although the little ribbon cables worried me at first. For first ribbon cable the video shows a little black tab that needs to be popped up for it to be removed. The lower ribbon cable has a similar tab, but its light grey. With the tabs popped up, the cables should come out with very little force.

I was able to fix this, but broke the ZR bumper in the process... and that cable is much more fiddly to put back it! The layout is also different for the opposite joy con

    Does the stick click in and does it feel like the real one?

    • @ramonalavigne5508
      @ramonalavigne5508 5 лет назад

      Yes it clicks in and they feel exactly like the ones that come with the joycons. They need re-calibrating after being fitted though, which isn't mentioned in the video.

    Thank you so much, this fixed my controller ^^
    I didn't have drift lag, but my controller wouldn't fully register when I was holding forward so running was not an option unless the game had a sprint button xD

      i took my joy cons on a school field trip and dropped one in snow and it scratched SNOW! now 1 joy con constantly goes left or right without me touching it and the other joycon spins me around which is AWFUL in splatoon btw so now i'm going to have to pay 70 for a cheap ass peace of small plastic or do all this work for it to work.

      I do take very good care of my things my pocket slipped open of a field trip and my joycans dropped out(running across the street for the bus) The drifting issue wasn't the cause of that btw(just a few minor scratches) and second this console is meant for kids I'm 17 kids are a lot more recluse. on a side note nintendo makes cheap products less durable than other consoles. so before you judge someone or make false assumptions I take very good care of my shit so how about you just worry about yours

    You got yours from EBAY? Who sells these? It looks just like the original part. Most amazon replacement parts are not the same. Please provide link to ebay seller

    I installed a stick, but it is from the consoles point of view stuck in the upright position. When I rotate the stick in a circle, the console registers it as pushing the stick forward and moving side to side a bit. Is my stick defective? Did I break it myself?

    My battery didn't have the four screws behind it. The case was instead held in place by three screws on the outside of the housing.
    Otherwise, this video helped immensely. 👍

    Only 3 of those 5 screws hold the battery tray. 2 of the screws can be left in as they hold only the circuit board below it.

    The sockets in this thing are stupidly delicate. They are pretty much all ZIF sockets, but in flipping up their locks you can easily break them because they're so small and poorly made. Use a plastic spudger for as much of the work as you can - any pointy metal risks breaking a socket. Finally, the flat ribbon cable in my joy con was jammed into the ZIF socket oddly and would not come out without some force, even with the lock up. Wound up damaging the socket, of course. The ribbon cables should basically just slide out when the little gray/black plastic lock is rotated 90°.
