Husky fan here and far be it from me to defend Oregon but they deserve a ton of credit they are fantastic and very well coached. That Oregon team came into an extremely hostile stadium and looked completely unfazed they played hard nose tough gritty and mistake free football against their rival with huge stakes involved. The huskies made some dumb calls like two straight 3 and outs stopping the clock with 6 straight passes with an 11 point lead late in the 3rd. That was terrible play calling going for that kill shot deep pass when you should play the clock especially when you are running the ball well. The Huskies also got stuffed on a 4th down try. Both teams played aggressive and gutsy football and the Huskies barely pulled it out. Absolutely no shame from Oregon at all they win that game 50% of the time it’s literally a toss up. Its very likely they get their shot at us again in the title game.

Josh you've made clear for everyone to realize Lanning's decision. He's a great coach. Stupid to compare to Mario Cristobal. He will make Oregon better from here on out.
I was disappointed in some of the aggressive calls by Lanning. I said weeks ago Washington was a top 5 team. Heck, they are a top two or three team. Fun to watch. Maybe two top 5 teams. What surprised me the most was Washington's Defense. They played great.
Yet the Ducks still had a very makeable field goal to tie it at the end, since they dominated the game in every measurable statistical category.....other than 4th down efficiency.
Fuck that you gotta kick the field goal before half that's just stupid , no nfl coaches are making thag move before halftime unless they are indeed up , it was 18-22 just take the points and be down by 1 coming out of halftime , smh and that weak ass sprint out play he kept calling was so obvious
@@sinerge2832 Games aren't won with stats, but if you look at the box score, what I said is true. Not only did Bo Nix throw for more yards than Penix, at a higher completion percentage, but the Ducks ran for over TWICE as many yards at a higher per carry average. The lone turnover in the game was a Penix interception. The Ducks dominated the time of possession and converted 3rd downs at a higher rate. Look at the box score. Virtually the ONLY thing Washington did better in this game was winning the small handful of 4th down plays. My point is, over 90% of the time a team getting outplayed in all those categories, like Washington did, will lose the game. Washington got some things to go their way that let them beat the odds. Since winning is all that matters, good for them.
That Washington Oregon game is what college football should be. Amazing game, great offense, physical tackling. I loved every minute of it. I will say I think Oregon was the better team but they left too many points on the board. And Washington took full advantage. Shout out to the Huskies for capitalizing and getting the dub🤟
@@AuthenticGook who are you putting above them? a Georgia that's not clicking at all? Michigan I understand, but are you putting an FSU or an OSU team that's struggled with lesser opponents above them? @@theechoproject899 Uga stays above them you can't move the 2x national championship winner when they didn't lose and sure they not clicking but every year when they have won they played people close in games that shouldn't have , still undefeated . Michigan and Uga you can't move rn even with not clicking , I'll have Washington at 3-4 but if you wanna talk about that win you have to talk about Oklahoma bc I think they should be top 4 as well rn
Right as half time started I told my dad "wouldn't it be something if Huskies win by a FG because they didn't kick the FG before the half" sure as shit that's how it played out. Go Dawgs!!! Miss you Gramps that win was for you!
I said the same exact thing “wouldn’t if be something if that non-FG at end of first half costs us the game” sure as shit that’s how it played out. Congrats, hope we both win out and meet in PCG
It’s a strange thing when people say they are surprised husky stadium is loud; it has the loudest game recorded. And the Seahawks play on the other side of town and that is also the loudest nfl stadium.
@@rondolan6457When we lost the Kingdom, folks were worried we would lose our noise advantage. The NFL even had a "Kingdome rule" where the home town could be penalized for beinflg too loud(!). So Paul Allen instructed his architects to design the new NFL stadium to be as loud as possible.
I love the non-typical, outside-the-box way of breaking down what he saw and throwing out a different narrative that people should grasp. Don’t think that you have to follow the popular narrative (Dan Lanning blew it), but perhaps instead it’s the other narrative (WA made the plays the ducks didn’t). Cheers to the possibility of being blessed with round 2! Go Dawgs!!!! 🎉🎉🎉
Both things are true, 1) Dan Lanning blew it by taking unnecessary/unacceptable risks (cost us six points) and 2) Dawgs made us pay for the hubris of a young coach. I actually don’t blame Lanning at all with the 4 and 3 at end of the game, risk-reward and all. Congrats on the W, see u guys in Vegas
Josh...I've always loved your energy. In fact, several years ago I said put RJ Young and Josh Pate together in a format that works and they'll SLAY anything the networks can construct (on college football!); oh..to dream. But your take on Dan Lanning is grown man stuff brother! That's the point I've tried to make to the insane Duck fans that hate Washington so much they can't see the 'method to his madness' the 'forest for the trees' as to why a mental paradigm shift is essential to Oregon football! Even Cristobal had a hand in who we've become. It was Mario who contributed the athletic/SEC-sized offensive lineman in the mix. Lanning's shown tremendous growth in a condensed window of evaluation, and he's fantastically expanded on area his predecessors laid the groundwork fo (recruiting; exciting offensive football; our tradition of great running backs has returned on his watch). I'm afraid our latte-sipping an base is going to run this guy right into a culture that understands and yearns for a Big Boy football team. These people are seriously out here WHINING about a character trait you can't win WITHOUT! When the bright lights of the CFP shine on the consciousness of a team they'll fold like a cheap tent if they're not mentally bullet proof. Go Ducks!
This is why I watch your show, and subscribed. You are in tune to College Football. The one thing I can say, and think about being aggressive is more weight should be given to the consequences of not taking the points. The benefit of taking the 3 was more than the risk for 7, and the possible 0.
I’m a Bama fan and I do believe Washington is elite. They have 3 WR’s who are a match up nightmare for any defense.. along with a stud QB, mixed with some creative play calling.
The funny thing about all of this is that if Oregon's kicker does his job and makes the tying field we aren't even having this conversation about "coaching decisions."
"I trust that I don't know what they know"..... great statement and very true..... if you have never been a college head football coach of a contender...then just watch and enjoy it......PS Great show Josh
From a Canadian 🍁 Go Dawgs, here's my issue ; how the heck is #2 Michigan #2 bunch of homers voting or what ? Next issue ; Oklahoma #6 homers voting again. Next issue ; Arizona Wildcats ### where are they in all this, show some love, i can't believe they didn't even get a mention.
huh? are you saying homers are voting against them? Because they (Michigan and Oklahoma) definitely look like two of the strongest teams. If you are saying homers are voting for Georgia and Penn State then I get it and agree.
During a 1992 game against Nebraska, Husky Stadium reached a level of 133.6 decibels, which remains the most noise ever recorded during a college football game.
I believe it was an awesome venue. Autzen gets very extremely loud, too, especially considering how small it is compared to many SEC stadiums. I'd bet Ducks on a rematch in Autzen with confidence. While Huskies hold some sort of national decibel record, too. Probably. Hard to admit, it is- such an excellent school all around. PNW rivalry. I can't imagine how awesome it was to be there.
As a heartbroken Oregon fan this def made me feel better thanks Josh! I def didn't like the 4th down calls, especially the one before the half, when they were called but also get its part of the DNA of the team. Biggest issue I had with the call is that they didn't take advantage of a rare turnover and they also got the ball to start the second half.
I think Dan Lanning is doing awesome with Oregon, its his 2 year as a head coach, he just can't be a nick saban your Kirby smart in a couple years it not like he has been a head coach for years some where else.
Lanning is arrogant and cocky and it has cost Oregon 3 games now since his arrival. They could not have found a more perfect coach for the identity of their program. The guy thinks he is going to outsmart the lessons that 150 years of college football has taught almost every other coach.
@@area.man.your logic is very flawed. Even the guy who made the video was confused😂. It's not arrogance to think you're the better team when you're statistically the better team. They fell just short because of a couple good plays by Washingtons defense that weren't present the rest of the game.
I liked the mentality Lanning had for this game you gotta be willing to take chances in these big time games but the way he put forth that mentality in the game was not up to par. I too was really confused by the decision to go for it at the end of the half. Shoutout Washington they played hard and in the end wanted it more hopeful we get this rematch in Vegas
UW could've had more points if they ran the ball more. The two three and outs they had were all pass plays. Dillon Johnson was averaging 5 yards a carry. If they score this game is a lot less close. If these two teams do meet again Washington will need to run the ball even more successfully to win
Honestly I don’t think so. Washington was able to penetrate because of the running already. The moments where they scored were those deep balls. Both teams started to really get the run D down in the late game.
@@geediali9941- that's because Washington went away from the running game completely in the 3rd qtr. Two series in a row they went 3 and out without attempting a run. That changed the complexion of the game and allowed Oregon to come back from a two score deficit. Most Washington fans are complaining about play calling in the 3rd qtr and why they weren't as balanced as they were in the first half.
I honestly think that if Washington runs the table and Oregon runs the table from here forward and we get an 11-1 (8-1) Oregon vs a 12-0 (9-0) Washington in Vegas and the game is almost identical and Oregon wins leaving both teams 12-1….there is no way you could convince me that these 2 teams aren’t both top 4. If they were in the SEC, and we were talking 12-0 Georgia vs 11-1 Bama and Bama won, or this was the B1G and 11-1 Ohio St beats a 12-0 Michigan, they both get in 10/10 times. It’s a big if, but IF that is what plays out, Oregon and Washington both deserve a spot.
As an Oregon fan, I don’t fault Dan Lanning. He went with an aggressive game plan and it didn’t work this time. I understand his thinking of wanting to change the momentum from the first half, and that didn’t work. If he would have known the 2nd half favored Oregon, he would have went for the field goal. A coach needs a balance of aggressive vs conservative, that’s a tough challenge for a coach. Regardless, I’m still all in on Lanning!!!
If panning decided to play traditional football Oregon scores on 3 field goals, assuming they make them, so yeah Oregon should have won, but we know what happened, taking nothing away from Washington, that pat penix drive was sick, 2 plays to take the lead
He's been consistent about future matchups at a neutral site. It wouldn't surprise me if UO was ahead of UW in the poll. It would surprise me if either team was outside of the top 6.
It’s funny how Oregon has moved from being *perceived* as the “flashy and cocky” PAC12 program of years past to more of an “aww shucks, clock-in clock-out” kinda vibe under Lanning this year. From the aggressive play-calling and physical style of play to the types of recruits they’re going after and the masterful self-branding during the Colorado situation, I feel that he is successfully shifting that culture back to its roots. It also helps that USC and the Buffs are relevant again and have obviously begun to soak up those kinds of aforementioned criticisms
It’s just extra painful because it was a similar story last year in Oregons losses. 0-5 on 4th down in a loss to the beavs. UW last year the last missed 4th down gave them a short field and set up the winning FG. Not all analytics apply to football especially in rivalry games. It’s just frustrating to see it happen a 3rd time. Either analytics aren’t always trustworthy or Oregon is extremely unlucky or bad on 4th down Go Ducks
Yeah coulda shoulda woulda... I like Lanning goin for it. What I got from it is Oregon could've easily won that game if those three 4th downs were 3 points, 3 points and a punt but it wasn't. In the moment it was the right call. Trying to take the momentum at your rival's house. I like Lanning for that! Game was amazing and gotta tip the hat to Washington. Way to show off some PNW football! GO DUCKS
It’s almost like people forget that the defense has to make a good play to stop a fourth down and three. Everyone’s talking like it was written in the stars that they were going to turn it over on downs.
11:00. This is the critical piece. The quality of a football decision is not based on the outcome. Down, distance, score, time, momentum, flow of game, personnel, and those things define the quality of a decision. Just because you don't convert doesn't mean that the decision to go for it was bad; just because you do convert doesn't mean the decision to go for it was good. For example, the Miami coach who ran the ball against Ga Tech made a horrible decision. Even if that guy gets harmlessly tackled and Miami wins, it was still a horrible decision. I think the 4th quarter decision to go for it on 4th down was a poor one. The risk:reward scenario was out of balance, Oregon's defense had held UW to 7 points in almost an entire half, "trusting your players" is a concept that also extends to the defense, going 80+ yards is much harder than 55, etc. The FGs were a flip of a coin.
My philosophy has always been, don't leave points on the field. It bit Oregon and also bit the Seahawks against the Bengals. Instead of playing for a TD to win, the Seahawks were in excellent position for a field goal to win, had they kicked the field goal on their previous possession. It all has to play out, of course. But play chess, not checkers.
Did they cancel the civil war this year? Or has OSU already forfeited the game? Hope you got refundable package. Last I saw, OSU was putting a beat down on UCLA.
I was disappointed most in UO's play-calling, particularly in red zone. If Dillingham was still there, some of those 4th downs would have been different and Lanning would have looked brilliant.
Listen, I hate Washington. And I hate that we came out on the side with an L. But this game was absolutely incredible. Their HC is the real deal man. Those receivers are all big time nfl talent. Michael Penix is the Heisman front runner and favorite at this point. All the credit to the huskies. They played outstanding football. They deserve the W. But I’m also so proud of our boys for going in there and fighting their asses off. There was no point in this game where either fan base could feel comfortable. What a show for the PNW. What a show from the PAC-12. We play quality ball out here too. And we showed it to the nation. I love our HC. He’s young, he’s still learning. But we have a lot to look forward to. Go Ducks!

Josh Pate, you just made my day. Thanks for actually talking about the winner of this game. No one else seems to.
Why not talk about the job Coach Deboer did?
Cuz he was given the game lol
Everybody knows he is a good coach. Still, the Ducks dominated the game in every measurable statistical category.....other than 4th down efficiency.
@@VinnyKnucklesAnd they still lost.
@@VinnyKnuckles and points
@@coryrikard8943I love people who give entirely unhelpful, useless comments.
Dan is my coach and Oregon is my team. And I am damn proud. Only up from here. And that’s saying something.
Ok I guess you are a loser! Congrats! Maybe next time! 3rd time a charm?!
Both teams went for it on 4th down three times each. The difference is that Udub executed on 2/3 and Oregon was 0/3.
@@VinnyKnucklesIf the ducks were so 'dominate' then they would have won easy.
@@VinnyKnuckles then why are you bringing up stats?! You're contradicting yourself. Only thing that matters is who won. Just get over it.
That Washington Oregon game is what college football should be. Amazing game, great offense, physical tackling. I loved every minute of it. I will say I think Oregon was the better team but they left too many points on the board. And Washington took full advantage. Shout out to the Huskies for capitalizing and getting the dub🤟
Washington is in my mind top 2 best in the country right now
Nah

Husky stadium already holds the record for loudest stadium in college football at 132 dcb and we were consistently hitting 130-131
Right as half time started I told my dad "wouldn't it be something if Huskies win by a FG because they didn't kick the FG before the half" sure as shit that's how it played out. Go Dawgs!!! Miss you Gramps that win was for you!
Remind me of last year game.

I said the same exact thing “wouldn’t if be something if that non-FG at end of first half costs us the game” sure as shit that’s how it played out. Congrats, hope we both win out and meet in PCG
Great commentary and very accurate
Great commentary/analysis as always!
It’s a strange thing when people say they are surprised husky stadium is loud; it has the loudest game recorded. And the Seahawks play on the other side of town and that is also the loudest nfl stadium.
Lumas field was built like husky stadium built to be loud
@@rondolan6457When we lost the Kingdom, folks were worried we would lose our noise advantage. The NFL even had a "Kingdome rule" where the home town could be penalized for beinflg too loud(!). So Paul Allen instructed his architects to design the new NFL stadium to be as loud as possible.
Great video. Thanks for being so insightsul and honest.
I haven’t heard much about Coach Prime lately. Time to do a video about him. 😂
😂😂😂😂
Go Ducks!
Looked like a playoff game great teams
Your take is spot on. As always. Good work.
We Duck Fans Appreciate You Josh! We Will See UW At The PAC 12 CG! It Was A Great Game, SCO Ducks! 🦆💪🏽
Looking forward to another matchup between the ducks. Hopefully both teams season will end up at Pac-12 CG
This is why I watch your show, and subscribed. You are in tune to College Football. The one thing I can say, and think about being aggressive is more weight should be given to the consequences of not taking the points. The benefit of taking the 3 was more than the risk for 7, and the possible 0.
Seattle has some of the loudest recorded games across different leagues, we know how to get loud. Go Dawgs! 3:27
I’m a Bama fan and I do believe Washington is elite. They have 3 WR’s who are a match up nightmare for any defense.. along with a stud QB, mixed with some creative play calling.
Used to work for Cooper Petagana as a scouting intern at UW before the pandemic. Tell him Gabe says hello
The funny thing about all of this is that if Oregon's kicker does his job and makes the tying field we aren't even having this conversation about "coaching decisions."
This game and red river unbelievable
2 instant classics....i was wondering if this game would match the red river...it did...
Odunze was an amazing reciever last year, he is one of the best in the league this year, no doubt!
"I trust that I don't know what they know"..... great statement and very true..... if you have never been a college head football coach of a contender...then just watch and enjoy it......PS Great show Josh
Desmond Howard said that Michael would bring that "Big Penix Energy " 😂😂. I cant believe he said that out loud
Penix sold T-shirts with that on them last year.
Dan Lanning tells Mario Cristobal, Hold my beer.
it was no where near that level of stupidity
I believe it was an awesome venue.
Autzen gets very extremely loud, too, especially considering how small it is compared to many SEC stadiums.
I'd bet Ducks on a rematch in Autzen with confidence.
While Huskies hold some sort of national decibel record, too.
Probably. Hard to admit, it is- such an excellent school all around.
PNW rivalry. I can't imagine how awesome it was to be there.
I’m a very happy Huskies fan because I saw the Huskies defeat the Ducks at Husky Stadium.
A highly anticipated game that wasn’t a disappointment.
This is incredible analysis
As a heartbroken Oregon fan this def made me feel better thanks Josh! I def didn't like the 4th down calls, especially the one before the half, when they were called but also get its part of the DNA of the team. Biggest issue I had with the call is that they didn't take advantage of a rare turnover and they also got the ball to start the second half.
I think Dan Lanning is doing awesome with Oregon, its his 2 year as a head coach, he just can't be a nick saban your Kirby smart in a couple years it not like he has been a head coach for years some where else.
Washington went for it on 4th &6 and converted they were just as aggressive
As a Toronto native thank you for calling it the Skydome 😂
He is smug and thought he was so cool against Colorado lol. You got your clicks and humble pie.
huh?
Ok someone explain this one to me, honestly I’m confused as to what you’re trying to say
Lanning is arrogant and cocky and it has cost Oregon 3 games now since his arrival. They could not have found a more perfect coach for the identity of their program. The guy thinks he is going to outsmart the lessons that 150 years of college football has taught almost every other coach.
@@BWinDCIHe has to be referring to Lanning's "We're playing for wins, not clicks" speech. They did not get the win so it must have been for clicks.
@@area.man.your logic is very flawed. Even the guy who made the video was confused😂. It's not arrogance to think you're the better team when you're statistically the better team. They fell just short because of a couple good plays by Washingtons defense that weren't present the rest of the game.
Somehow, this needs to all end in a Michigan/Ohio State vs. Washington in the Rose Bowl. Send the Grandaddy out in style!
how many years have both QB’s been in school?
I liked the mentality Lanning had for this game you gotta be willing to take chances in these big time games but the way he put forth that mentality in the game was not up to par. I too was really confused by the decision to go for it at the end of the half. Shoutout Washington they played hard and in the end wanted it more hopeful we get this rematch in Vegas
UW could've had more points if they ran the ball more. The two three and outs they had were all pass plays. Dillon Johnson was averaging 5 yards a carry. If they score this game is a lot less close. If these two teams do meet again Washington will need to run the ball even more successfully to win
McMillan was out early too. If he's on the field it's a different game
@@Garlander he didn't play at all
@@glennbarrett7234 he was in for a couple snaps, then he reaggravated his injury.
Credit to Washington. That said, the reason why all those Oregon stats weren’t “good enough” was because of Dan Lanning.
Husky stadium reach 130 dbs and averaged 120 dbs all game. It gets loud.
Glad you enjoyed your time Seattle! Bow Down to Washington!!!
Great, great game…👊🏻🇺🇸🏈
Btw, even Dan admitted he was to blame.
The real rematch between Oregon and Washington will be them fighting for a portal QB after this season
Uh.... And which offense would YOU want to play for?
you are reasonable and fair-minded. Thank you.
Not even just the qbs that moved west the starting db for Oregon transfers for Alabama Dan Lanning can get players out there.
I am still exhausted from Saturday.
Can’t wait for everyone’s reaction when Oregon is still above Washington in the JP poll
Washington could clinch playoff birth if they stay undefeated
Oregon couldve won this if they convert at least one of those 4th downs
# 13 Reciver for The Stanford Cardinal 🍁 Keep your eye on him 😊
The reason people are talking about Dan Lanning is because it was Oregons game to lose, and they lost it mostly from bad coaching decisions.
Either analytics aren’t always trustworthy or Oregon is extremely unlucky or bad on 4th down
Go Ducks
Yeah coulda shoulda woulda... I like Lanning goin for it. What I got from it is Oregon could've easily won that game if those three 4th downs were 3 points, 3 points and a punt but it wasn't. In the moment it was the right call. Trying to take the momentum at your rival's house. I like Lanning for that! Game was amazing and gotta tip the hat to Washington. Way to show off some PNW football!
GO DUCKS
R you crazy?
It’s almost like people forget that the defense has to make a good play to stop a fourth down and three. Everyone’s talking like it was written in the stars that they were going to turn it over on downs.
Go Ducks! 🦆
What a bunch of rubbish!
You’ll take that statement about steep upper decks and view back once you decide to go to Clemson 😏
Booked for the rematch in Vegas! Those poor fusckies!!!
Did they cancel the civil war this year? Or has OSU already forfeited the game? Hope you got refundable package. Last I saw, OSU was putting a beat down on UCLA.
No matter what every year they crown USC as the best team at the beginning of the year. Rarely true.
I was disappointed most in UO's play-calling, particularly in red zone. If Dillingham was still there, some of those 4th downs would have been different and Lanning would have looked brilliant.
Washington, home of Microsoft, Starbucks and the Greatest setting in College Football
Saw you from section 300 Josh 😂
Dan Lanning made the same decisions last year against Washington and it cost him then as well.
Go Ducks!
