This is what pop music could have been (could still be) if the artists were self made instead of hand picked and marketed. And as for her new stuff, I am a metal head who in general dislikes the entire Nu metal genre, (I listen to mostly black metal) but she is able to write within the genre in ways that appeal to me because it's unique.

Sad that this is a rarity these days. I guess pop has always been characterized by talented performers rather than songwriters. Though I think of Grimes as more than a pop artist. But yeah, good on her for singing the songs of her soul (rather than market-friendly-bebop).

Grimes is a prime example that music is more than a voice. Music is another form of art that is accessible to everyone. Music is emotional and the outpouring of someone's soul. Your memories, your feelings - hell, even the song you heard when you were 6 getting ice cream on the beach - everything can be transpired into music. Personally, Grimes gives me that nostalgia of another day and life. Thank you for this performance. Absolutely incredible.

I saw her in Melbourne, Grimes can sing live, period. She was even better than I expected. Perhaps it is because she focusses more on her singing in live performances, when before more of the focus was on performing the music at the same time. She's incredible live.

actually it is difficult. she is doing it the hard way vs. playing on a prerecorded track she is actually initiating every part. this is much different than the current ways of dj's and hip hop that play on a back track. she is actually manipulating all the tracks dynamically which takes massive skill. yeah you could push one button and have everything done but she is doing it the traditional hard way and even playing the keyboard parts exclusively. definately an artist and not a back track singer. 100% look up keller williams or reggie watts for examples of the same thing.

I had heard genesis before, and liked it a lot, but something special happened today. I was on my nightly walk, at around 8:30PM, and I decided to listen to this song through my headphones that I take with me. I was walking through an area I wasn't too familiar with, and a few seconds after I hit play on the song and put my headphones on, I walked around a bend to reveal a decline in the grass and an amazing view. It wouldn't have looked interesting in the day, but for some reason, the moon in clear view, this song playing in my ears, it was just suddenly so perfect. I almost felt like crying, and I'm not someone to cry often. I sat down on the hill and listened to the song, amazed by how beautiful the music was. I had heard it many times before, but this is the time I consider to be my first time hearing the song. Grimes is amazing.

Listening to grimes in her early years and watching her feels like heart breaking feeling of watching videos
Of an old friend and remembering overcoming times. I’m speaking for myself. I was depressed with a lot going on mentally. Very creative but troubled, overcoming addiction k heart broke with anxiety.
Her music really helped me to just be myself . Be present , overcome and be myself. Really helped me is an under statement.
Seeing her this way again is very very bittersweet. Such a weird feeling.

You should look up "Just for Now" by Imogen Heap and watch the first video that pops up. It's like 12 or 13 years old. Anyway, it's her performing all by herself live at a radio station, similar to this. And similar to this, she various machines, software, and loop pedals and probably other pieces of machinery that I don't know the names of. The only difference between the two performances is that the entire song (including the music in the background) is completely comprised of sounds she is singing and snapping and clapping and shit like that. I love this video, but personally I love the other video I just recommended to you even more because I think it's hella cool and inspiring the crazy things one can produce by simply using a loop pedal, recording different sounds and simply layering them together in a particular order to create a dope song. Anyway yeah, you should totally listen to it and let me know what you think.

KEXP has changed my opinion on so many artists it's almost hard to believe. Never cared for Grimes before watching this videos but the first three minutes alone shows that she is very talented, has an aesthetic and a vision which is crucial for any artist.

Her music is just so surreal when you close your eyes and try to pick out each individual instrument. You can tell that she's creating for herself, not an audience.
