I'm the girl with the bangs and the denim vest next to the little girl! i remember this day so vividly. My friend told me Grimes was playing at Grimey's after school and I nearly passed out. This was honestly the best day of my life. I believe some girls from another school got a petition for her to perform at Grimey's? She was so awkward. We were all standing there so awkwardly because Grimey's is super small and most people there were super serious & Grimes has this awkwardness that kinda spreads... I'm so fortunate that I got to experience this. She was and still is one of my biggest inspirations. I saw her a year ago and her shows are sooooo different now.
That must have been so super, a perfect afternoon.
I really dig the sincere set she gave this day, it really sounded awesome!
Grimes is so super =^..^=
Haha I love your story! I played a couple of shows in a brightly lit, tiny record shop with a CLOSE audience, closer than this one, and I couldn't pull off my M O O D! Even with sunglasses. Awkward would be an understatement LOL Go Grimes for working it! I think at 11:34 she's commenting on the weirdness of it, but it's hard to make out. I won't be playing any brightly lit, tiny record shops ever again that's for sure.
Destiny McGregor you’re so lucky. you can’t even begin to comprehend how b a d l y i want to see her live. happy that you got to go :D
Hows the space time continuum feeling NOW, kid.. hehe... life is so weird!
@@stormysmurf "john dies at the end"
The father in the back seems so intrigued. What a badass dad!
That's an older version of Anthony Fantano lmao
+The Rain Man my god lol
I don't want to alarm you, but your dad is bald.
It's actually James Wiltshire a musician who does electronic music. Look him up his music is good.
Ryan amd he’s brought his daughter - cute
the bald guy constantly approves
And his sweet daughter absorbs it all... lovely
it’s so cute how everyone is so supportive even if they haven’t heard music like that before
MEGALOL :)))))))
Lmao
i think he's keeping tabs on her mixing, he's got an angle on her console
I am in my kitchen doing spaghetti, and I'm high as fuck.
doing spaghetti lol?
tkoviet Bon apetito
+tkoviet I love being spaghetti and doing high as fuck.
+tkoviet Hi wonderful unicorns! I didn't know that this commentary would have 80 likes :D It was random. Just to let you know that I got the chance to see Grimes in Paris last week and it was PHENOMENAL, wow like one of the best concerts I've been, maybe the best haha If you have the opportunity to see her, please go!!
tkoviet Wow dude I was at that concert! Also got to see her in Nottingham, both great shows! Seeing her again in June and every chance I get, Hana too, she was amazing live!
That lucky little girl.
Exactly what I was thinking. Little did she realize what magical performance she got to experience. I wonder what she is like now.
Salt lick did u see the comment above this one it’s that little girl now so cool
@@juliette7535 no no the comment above is the girl leaning on a box of records to the right of the little girl, u can’t see her till abt half way through
Grimes is a reminder for all artists/creative people to stop taking yourself so seriously and enjoy creating
too bad Grimes herself forgot that
Every time I watch these shows from this era I feel like making cool and unique and genuine music is just a few hours of dedication away
I can't help but think that the person in front is horseback riding.
she's riding a pony on a treadmill
hahahaha
This comment made my day
A+ Humor
she has a audio stim vibrator activatoooor
her vocals were on point that day
This must have been a life changing performance for this little girl since I'm sure she's never heard music like this before in her life up to that point
And actually you can see that in her face the entire time, how she process all the new information that is flying in to her brain and getting directly tattooed in to her childhood memories for ever
Probably not. Her father the guy standing behind her is James Wiltshire who makes electronic music. Her first exposure to music was probably her dad mixing beats when she was like 1 month old.
@@bodbn LOL
@@bodbn She sorta looked bored af too tbh haha
She couldn't look more uninterested to me, she even yawned at one moment. Even if her Dad behind her is a reputable maker of electronic music it doesn't mean the girl is a fan. My bro is DJ and we'll know in our area but my kids think their uncle's "music," is nothing but shit. I think people must be on drugs to enjoy this, maybe I just need to get high on something and my perspective towards electronics would change.
I love her music! she's like a nerdy girl scientist...experimenting with sound and being a little awkward but still endearing.
Grimes is loved the sciences, physics, and space. She actually has that in common with Elon.

I didn't know Oblivion was about a sexual assault she experienced in Montreal. She wrote the song to help her deal with the trauma. Her music is so beautiful and it makes the world a better place for me and how horrible that the world could be so brutal to her.
Itsme drools holy fuck I didn’t know that. I love this song too.
I dunno, I think you might be missing the forest because of all those forest-blocking tree-shaped objects🙃
I think the ‘world’ has been anything BUT brutal to her...quite the opposite, IMO...but yes, there is some piece of sh__ out there who suuuuccks for that...but without that experience her life’s trajectory might have been completely different!
Not condoning the incident, just pointing out that even the things that at the time may seem to be the most horrible and meaningless experiences can later be understood as catalysts for something greater, a galvanizing or tempering as by fire, to yield something stronger, more purposed...it seems she didn’t let the bad life experiences define her, but instead took the experiences and used them to define what kind of life she wanted...there is a ‘world’ of difference between those two intersecting paths... 😉
Ahcez Nellacmi well said!!!!
@@ahceznellacmi3752 what a strange response. Sorry, I can’t be so coolly analytical about that subject and what kind of lasting effects a sexual assault can have on a person’s life. I wrote that 3 years ago and a lot has transpired in her life with Elon and the baby and she seems like she’s in a good place so I’m happy for her.
@@ahceznellacmi3752 it is a toxic pov to be compulsively positive about bad things. I think it's better to just process the emotion of the reality, that it's horrible.
She is a little mad genius. So fun to watch her create sound sorcery.
exactly! very witchy
I am not sure all who is gonna end up reading this, but this comment section has made my night. This was my first live performance I ever went to being a kindergartner in my little yellow shirt and going and hanging out with my dad. I will never forget doing this and will always be grateful for being able to go to this show. (Also my dad isn’t James Wiltshire)
I see you, respect
Pretty awesome
Omg how awesome !!
that is so insanely awesome
woah
Classic awkward Grimes at the end there. Love it when she swears in front of the little girl haha.
jesus christ that was cringey level 1000
She was enjoying the lullaby, almost falling asleep, and then FUCK FUCK!, the little girl awakes in total shock hahaha
I love how she mixed Symphonia into Circumambient
little girl at the back is like WTF
😅

damn circumambient sounds so cool
Vache Sarkissian I agree. It's such a good version of that song.
why is she SO ADORABLE
i would probably die if i ever can go to that kind of concert with her... T_T
I don't think I've seen a more awkward ending to any performance in my entire life. .
And I like it
+Bear Boy but she does so in a very fashionable way, which is pretty exciting in these times of manufactured era
+damien park Yes. There is a lovely level of relatable characteristics to her character that increase her likability. She seems very human whereas so many of her peers seem intangible. It's awesome.
+Bear Boy just her authentic being, most of us are living a life behind a mask. Its not she whos awkward, its you and me.
it's really important to be real...yes I like her personality too...she kind of reminds me of the teenage me many moons ago...years ago we didn't have that kind of equipment... and the stuff that was available was well out of budget...I love watching her process and performance and love her music videos are so interest...just love her...she seems like a sweet girl with a wonderful unique talent...her tracks are well cool :-)
You might have already seen it but if not check out the Nardwaur interview and the ending to that.
This girl is so unique and creative. Her music is like another world her style is so different. This is what I call a proper artist. She's cool.
Really? Anybody could do that.
@@SirenOffspring , so do it!
one example is Brian Eno
my cheeks hurt from smiling at her awkwardness/cuteness at the end aaaaaawwwww
To this day, this is one of my fave Grimes performances. I wonder if the mesmerized little girl at the front is now a 13 year old, jamming in her dad's basement, surrounded by Roland synths. Music is a powerful thing.
Cici Minigold True, crowd seems so dead tho smh
Cici Minigold ikr she was probably so inspired
This proove how a young simple girl can make an entire musical atmosphere. She´s a genius.
Fa Gnr a white, rich, daddy's young simple girl.
Nicolas Coss she lived in a tent while touring in the early days. She gave up her McGill degree (probably a high classification too). Her family basically rejected her in those early days too. She makes the music by herself in a laptop. I don't know too much if anything at all about her life, but the talent and intelligent art is there and it doesn't just come from no-where. I find the best criticism is to do it better. Otherwise you seem disingenuous and almost definitely are
Nicolás Coss she used to thrift everything and live in places with no ac/heaters to the point where she literally got frost bite. not daddy’s rich simple girl.
Far from simple...

It's easy to be poor when it's a choice and you have the option to crawl back to wealthy parents.
If my kid yawned while standing 5 feet away from a Grimes performance, she'd be so grounded for so long.
It’s life
Her brain just needed extra oxygen because it was expanding so fast.
she yawned cause i always feel sleepy to her songs.
I always give her respect! All that music, one person, all live! RESPECT!!
Just realized this was 10 years ago to the day. Had never heard of Grimes until a few days ago - this music is a blessing.
Grimes really works on you doesn't she? I started being curious and entertained by her style. Now it just keeps sucking me in. I love how she's all about atmosphere. Real pleasant to have this playing around the house you know lol?
I’m a 13 year old and I love Grimes she’s such a great artist and I’ve been going back to these performances and I love her energy. Her music has definitely changed over the years but I love every song she has made. I love watching her interviews and everything. This performance makes me so calm and I love it :) I don’t know if anyone will see this but if you do I hope we get out of this corona virus.
Me too! I would love to be a musician like her! I definitely prefer her older music because that's what I know her from and it seems a lot darker and more unique but either way she's great
Adela Tománková me too I love geidi primes so much atm but I also LOVE visions and all of her older music
Why were you being 13 years old a relevant thing to say lmao
@@JesusVargas-of2fu idk most people my age don’t enjoy her music

I am missing so much this part of Grimes, this was the reason I talked so much about Grimes to everyone !!
On June 4th 2015 Grimes played before 15,000 people in Canada. Those of you at this show saw history in the making. You will be reading about in Rolling Stone in about eight years so you go!
She made to a rolling stone cover and vogue!!! And became a soundtrack of the most hyped game in 2020. Had a soundtrack in birds of prey and #1 Us top dance/electronic music 2020 billboards.
i love how quirky she is.I think at the end she think people will hate it but I loved it! she is so talented
Symphonia - 00:26
Circumambient - 07:05
Oblivion - 12:03
Genesis - 17:15
idk why but i get chills seeing Grimes perform live
what a tremendous talent. She enjoys performing....you can feel it
the end made me cry omg she's the cutest.
Life of that girl will never be the same, i hope she 'll be an artist
I am just in love with Grimes. I am 46 years old and for me, her music is my past and my future: my present. Grimes mix psico 80's in her beat that just make me UP
same but I'm 14 haha I guess that just shows that her music is for everyone
I discovered her this year at age 47 and can't stop listening to her.
My past year has been a rollercoaster of anxiety, hopelessness, burnout, exhaustion, sadness because of school😂 BUT I discovered Grimes a few months ago..and the moment I put her music on in my headphones..it calms me..like it soothes me to the point of all these worries disappearing. Has anyone else had this effect?
Yes me too!
Yup
am i the only one who thinks her music and performance was way better that time than now?
By far. Now she pretty much just hits play and dances around, which is pretty disappointing.... She's still the shit though
el cid its About her music, I still like it. Very different, but great 90's pop trance inspired music. I think she struggles in her performances now because she moves around alot and she really expanded out of her comfort zone in Art Angels, vocally anyway.
LRLArch The vocal arrangements on Art Angels are superior to Visions as well as the quality of production. I love Visions, but people need to give Art Angels a chance and stop knocking her for not making Visions part 2.
Steve Booth I was talking about her performances. To me, Art Angels is better because there's a bigger diversity. I cant get through Visions without sleeping. Like seriously, alot of those songs blend together and it gets really boring. Although Genesis and Oblivion remain one of her best songs, the rest are forgettable. But I still stand by my comments on her performances. She doesn't actually try to sing anymore and she sings in this really weird way that just kinda ruins it for me.
el cid You're not the only one. I guess her performances now are just about energy and performance art than singing well or accurately? I don't get it, I mean I can see when she stays behind her equipment that she sings really well. Now, it's a totally different kind of performance and the vocals are just really off key a lot of the time. Is the jumping all around the stage throwing off her vocals or what?
Iconic
Oh man. Now I’d love to see her do an NPR Tiny Desk Concert for Miss Anthropocene (and any other album she’d wanna do). 🥰💛💛💛

I wish I was that little girl she was so close watching her do everything. How BADASS! What a great memory 🙌🥰
I wish I would have known she had been around this long. Her music, not only comforting and entertaining, also has cause a great expansion of my mind and thought process, and the knowledge that I have the ability to see more than one view or side of any and everything. At times I tend to over think but even worse at times I tend to judge or jump straight in to a negative or destructive thought pattern. Through music she has helped to teach me to find the light in the dark just like my first wife tried to teach me for so many years before she passed away. Love always finds a WAY. ~LOVE~
That child at the side is going to have the most amazing taste in music when she's older and will most likely become an influential musician due to this performance

Or maybe she'll be a stay at home mom only interested in country music.
Truth be told! Dads helping paving the musical future

Siempre me viene a la mente She's a Rainbow de The Rolling Stones.
Gracias de nuevo.

For years I thought she had created her own awards show called the Grimeys (instead of the Grammies). Was very disappointed to find out that’s the name of the store she’s playing in.
thx for uploading this. Its like super special
Claire is just adorable here. Sorry, I know she hates that, but I do take her seriously as an artist with great production skills. Before the big and brilliant musical shift in Art Angels and before Elon Musk, there was Visions and this precious moment in time when her music was simple enough to pull off live without cringing vocals. This proves she can do it, but I think she's realizing that all those layered tracks on Art Angels are hard to pull off live without having to play the album tracks and singing along, which is not nearly as cool as this.
Thank you for sharing this! What I'd give to have been able to see a live show like this.
Enjoyed this so much
