Recenrly rented a cx50 was brand new . I was impressed . It was not a turbo spec but for the avg driver it was fine . Super impressed with build quality and the way it handled mountain roads ans switch backs. Zoom zoom
My wife and I just picked up a CX-30 and so far we're loving it.
Looks like a pretty good value for a midsized crossover. (Sad that near 40k as tested is a value these days)

@@jayson657I bought a 2024 turbo and I’m loving mine, Im sure I can drain a tank pretty easily if I wanted to but I’m currently getting 500km/tank and that is a very small gas tank!
Mechanical lockers > Limited slip differential > iPad on wheels lockers.
I really like the system on the bronco sport badlands. While it’s not an actual locker, its clutch seems to be much beefier and doesn’t overheat like most AWD crossovers.

This is what a car enthusiast would buy. SUV folks just need a bigger vehicle, they can’t understand its value.
This is why i bought one and it’s one off my favourite cars I’ve ever owned. It isn’t as small as reviewers keep saying it is. I remember the civic hatchbacks in the 90s were WAY smaller and no one complained about the size then.

@4:55 Not sure if its unusual to get AWD warning. Even Honda has warning to save the AWD system where it gives Transmission Temperature too hot on iVTM4 AWD. They are clutch based AWD systems, not real 4WD like Wrangler, Bronco or 4Runner. IMO Its good to give warnings before hand on AWD vehicles.
Hmmm. It’s a small raised hatchback with AWD to help in inclement weather, not an off-roader.
I'm glad i'm not the only one that gets this.

I own it. I get very good mpg, and it performed just fine during some "off-road" tests I put it through.
The biggest issue on this car is the tires. Get some Falken Wildpeak A/T's and it'll perform a lot better than this

Just bought a CX50. noticed you can add the same station to favorites multiple times and the center display brightness (automatic setting) does not work. gets dimmer at night when set to night mode. does cx30 have same software bugs?

@@Drg24800 Yes, I wanted the display to get darker at night. The screen display at three settings: auto, day, and night. At night when set to auto it was still bright! It was not dimming. After messing with the dashboard button, it enabled the auto dim feature to work. Previously I was switching to night mode, but during the day it was too dim..
I have a 23' CX-30 NA 2.5 and I love it. Got mine for 24k
People avoid CVT for over heating issue. Well, this transmission fells into the same track.

why are people getting the turbo?? I'm getting the na 2.5 preferred trim tomorrow Monday morning, i come from a turbo charged car and i kind of didn't like the fact that the turbo would go out eventually so im going for the a na car.

These test results make me want a Bronco sport badlands. Similar tech ideas but better execution. Style is a meh for both in my opinion.

It's a clever test but unfortunately it doesn't represent real world conditions. I own one of these cars in North Idaho. I've been through three winters now with the terrible stock tires and have driven this car through hellish conditions and it never skipped a beat. Had to take a nasty back mountain road after a squall dumped almost a foot of snow causing multiple crashes on the highway. The road was a way around the crash, almost 10 miles of hilly unplowed dirt road and the car was fine. I now have better tires and am looking forward to winter to try them out. No one should take the test on this video as gospel, ask the thousands of people who drive these things every day in Northern climates how they fair. Pro tip, tire choice means everything. Rollers are not an analog for ice but it's fun to watch.
I'd buy the Premium non-turbo....the NA 2.5 is more than enough for the Cx30.
I'm looking at buying a 2024 CX 30. For you current owners of CX 30s from 2021-2024, what are you getting on mpg in the city? That's my biggest concern because 85% of my driving is city. Thanks in advance!
‘24 - averaging 10.3L/100km (~23mpg) mostly city, calculated using Fuelly. Highway road trip, mostly cruise control averaged 8.3 (~28). Enjoy the turbo, great passing power & acceleration from a stop. Super fun to drive in sport mode + manual shift.

@@xyzunotme yeah the NA should net a few more mpg. IMO the smiles per gallon make the turbo worth it. Have to give to Mazda for keeping the tried & true 6sp auto rather than going to a cvt like the competitors. Makes both the NA & turbo very engaging to drive when you want it or super smooth when cruising.
My biggest gripe is the Bose sound system. It does sound great and crisp, but the “subwoofer” gets overpowered by the cabin speakers and the eq is lacking.
I tried searching for it. So either I can't find it or you haven't done it yet. But do the Kia K5 with the AWD. But to add spice to it, start a new segment where you do "old vs new" slip test. The one I have specifically is the Kia K5 1.6t AWD (the old one) vs the Kia K5 2.5 NA AWD (new one). The main reason I'm asking is because when the going gets tough in my 1.6t AWD. the electronics start to have problems. So I'm curious if Kia changed the programming in the AWD for the NA 2.5 or if it's the same as the old 1.6t AWD.

Agreed it's a nice car and all. But I'm curious as to how we'll it does on the slip test. Because my failed on me when I got stuck. Which concerns me. Because I put snow tires on and the second that my tires slipped the electronics failed. Which does snow tires no good.
Mazda needs specific trims.
1. on road performance, lowered , gripy performance tires, slightly bigger brakes, front strut bar, more aggressive psi setting for turbo for 280hp 350tq!
2. Off road trim , with off road tires, lifted another inch higher, front bumper moded for off road
They already have one for the road like you mentioned in point #1. Is called the mazda 3.

The Cx-50 has an off-road trim. It just doesn’t have a lift or different bumper. The bumper just isn’t gonna happen because I can’t name one car that has a modified bumper for the off-road trim. It’s too specific and most people like the off-road look and don’t take it off-road.

It would be helpful if you had an Infograph or at least tell us how much throttle you are using in these tests. To me, it just looks like you don’t know what you are doing throttle-wise.
I like how yall did the AWD test to a pre production Hornet and made the world think the car was more crap than it is because went into limp mode. But yall did this test to a car that’s already been on the market for years..
Because the hornet IS a crap car. Everyone else thinks so too as NO ONE is buying them.

These are one of the most cramped and uncomfortable vehicles I have ever rode in. I know it's a compact vehicle but it feels very very tight

Yea, everybody seems to complain about the CVT in Subarus, but I have never seen one overheat in off road mode or slip tests. The CX-30 is a nice package, though, overall. I dont like the beam rear axle, especially on the nearly 40k loaded turbo model, and I still would prefer a touch enabled infotainment system, no matter how hard Mazda loyalists try to defend the control wheel system.
Mazda loyalists are a weird bunch. You can like the Miata and admit the SUV’s are trash 🤷♂️
@@MrJamesLuz I dont think their SUVs are "trash" at all. They just have a few features that I dont understand, like I said, the infotainment system and the beam rear axle. There are a lot of competitors in this class now, the Crosstrek, Corolla Cross, new HRV, CX-30, and Seltos/Kona. They all have advantages/disadvantages. so it is a really hard choice to say which is "best".

The cx-30 is obviously not any version of an off roader. AWD is simply a silly gimmick for most car manufacturers at this point. Great vehicle for what it us when used properly.

This car comes with low grip , low rolling resistance, touring Bridgestones all season tires with rather poor rating in tests.
Use off road tires if you intend to take it on off road and this little CX30 will surprise you ....
@@kdomster9141 The CX30 has front wheel based AWD. This test likely exposed a flaw with their torque converter.
It's not a big deal, this was a very specific and niche test.
@@TheRealCatof It can send enough power to the rear to get it moving in such situation .
@@kdomster9141If one rear wheel is to push the car, things are becoming complicated. System must power rear axle and brake one rear wheel at the same time, awd coupling takes all the load then - and it's too much so system cuts it off.

WRX is one great car for the money.
what is there not to like? this vehicle will suit 95% of people perfectly. it also has a REAL automatic transmission, not some CVT junk. Only thing is yes, i agree the price is a little steep, but that is the trend in the auto industry nowadays.
I ordered a CX-30 and it will come in about 4 weeks - it has a retail price of 44.500,-€uro ....thats about at least 45.000 Dollars!!!

The Mazda is the much better vehicle in the real world. Much better noise insulation, material quality, overall ride refinement. The WRX is better for mild off-roading.

I see these all over but find them really ugly (the front). $38K i suppose is normal now. Google says it will tow 2000lbs (turbo version).

Noping out after 15 seconds on an easy roller test is just awful. Far behind Subaru in capability, and it isn't $6-8k nicer than one either.
So in a storm, if you get stuck and spin the wheels excessively to no avail the Mazda says "nice try but we aren't going anywhere"? Unacceptable.
these part time AWD vehicles you’re seeing from Mazda and Toyota are not reliable in an emergency. Get a real AWD vehicle if you drive in those conditions a few times a year.

@@keith4669 where I live, there are many mountainous areas where the roads are cr@p and it gets slippery when raining, no snowing needed. Normal cars will slip or will have a hard time. Almost every vehicle in those areas are AWD
@@JoseDiaz-qw7mg I’m in an area where we get a ton of snow and ice and with the right tires this car is better than most other AWD and 4WD cars I’ve driven.
rav4 adventure all day long
New Rav4 is fugly. My sister has a 2015 rav4 and I have a 2014 cx5. Cx5 feels like a sports car while the rav4 feels like driving a boat. I can't imagine the new rav4's drive much better.

Subaru Crosstrek passed. It’s a direct competitor.
Bronco Sport does really well
CVT aside my problem with the crosstrek is that their big motor makes less power than the non turbo Mazda. Only time I’ve had an issue with turbo I was a ground clearance issue. Beached it in deep snow, you could hear the underbody compacting the snow. Didn’t even get out of the car, just put it in reverse and picked a different line.
That was during a freak snowstorm, I’d much rather have all the torque and power for 99.9% of daily driving. If you want a true off-roader don’t buy a CUV
This vehicle needs larger wheelhouse plastic eyebrows to further cheapen it and make it visually repugnant.
People with face tats and nose piercings like it however and all that matters. Of course they don't have a job which is a problem for sales.

You don't know what design office is but its where executive decisions are made like aesthetic choices to add wheel arches made of plastic...lol.
