Very well done Sir, I have yearned to travel Africa by 4 wheel drive since I was a young boy. I think Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom was my inspiration. Marlin Perkins always traveled the bush in a Series Land Rover. The closest thing we have in the US is the desert southwest. It's remote, full of canyons and amazing landscapes. I've driven countless miles in Land Rover's and Toyota's. Something about traveling overland by truck, being self reliant in a wild landscape is so fulfilling spiritually. Cheers..
Man, those landscapes. Every time I leave Africa I see something like this and want to go straight back !Incredible production on the video - you are raising the bar for me!
I think your idea to create the Amazon ebook of memorable campsites is an excellent one. I'll gladly be the first to download it. The campsite at the end of the day is what makes an ordinary trip extraordinary. One campsite that is most memorable to me involves a small remote lake and an abundance of evergreen trees. One tree in particular has a memorial plaque dedicated to one of founding members of a local Jeep club. From the luxury of my tent I can take a short stroll around the lake and into the forest. Where the cool dense air and the rustle of the trees in the wind provides a feeling of peace like nothing else I've experienced before.
Fantastic production Andrew - you have really gone from strength to strength and your quality is superb. Please publish that book of favorite campsites, with a little story attached. I will definitely buy it. Australia might be good 4x4-ing country Bruce, but there is NOTHING like Africa! Keep filming it Andrew.
Very interesting video. We have travelled through SA, Botswana and Zimbabwe three times in rental 4x4s and highly recommend it for someone based in Europe. I would add one BIG caveat however; check the equipment before you leave! During our three trips we have used two different rental companies, both Johannesburg-based. In both cases the service was excellent and the vehicles behaved faultlessly (2 x Toyota Hilux and 1 x Ford Ranger). But with all three trips there were avoidable gaps in the equipment-list (lack of a fire extinguisher and a totally inadequate air compressor being two examples). You obviously can't bring heavy-duty vehicle-based camping and off-road equipment with you from Europe so, if you find your equipment lacking, you only have two choices; buy it en-route and leave it behind when you leave, or live without it. So, my advice is to plan the trip as if you were equipping your OWN vehicle and build a CHECKLIST. Then check with the rental company before you leave home to make sure all items will be available. On arrival at the rental company, physically check the items against your checklist - both for presence and quality. If you're not happy, ask the rental company to correct it before you leave. Now I'm not talking espresso coffee-makers here, but critical equipment as mentioned above. Hope this is helpful.
This is a great concept. My wife and I are considering renting an overland vehicle for Australia because we've heard its nearly impossible to ship a used vehicle there without receiving heavy fines due to the level of vehicle cleanliness required by the importation officers. I enjoy watching your experience.
Nice Vid.. The quality is much much better!.. I m from Botswana, thanks for the videos I learn quite a bit from these. My land cruiser prado, yes on BF's has been to all corners of the country... Have the gps coordinates of the campsite book! I need to start visiting some of these places! This July we are hitting central Kalahari, Makgadikgadi and chobe. Please advise one of my friends not to bring the Pajero ( liability! ) 😃 cheers
Totally agree about Botswana;it really is special! Even on business trips, soon as I cross the border from SA, I get this awesome feeling of having arrived. Makes me wonder why the f...anyone would want to go to Australia;)!
Hi Andrew, Thanks for the Post. I grew in the Kalahari, and I now live in Vic, Aus. Hope we run into each other. I like to watch your Films when I get a bit homesick. Cheers.
I tried to hire a vehicle through safari drive, (from UK ) for a trip some years ago. They were most unhelpful, arrogant and condescending to the point I went elsewhere. (Travelled through Namibia into Botswana). I hope their PR has improved since then! Great vid and books a winner I think.
So given that you have decided to ditch the 79 trayback build in Oz due to rear axle weight concerns, how did you find the vehicle on this expedition as at times it did look very rear heavy? I personally don't think there is much getting away from some sort of rear axle weight imbalance
Your campsite book idea...hell yes that'd be a great read we think. Let us know if you ever decided to actually do it & thanks for sharing another incredible journey with us. Cheers from Calgary Alberta 🇨🇦
Thanks for the video. Still love the troopy though and glad you are building one now. Anymore information on the one this video would be appreciated, i.e. the build or links to more pictures. Thanks.
Waiting for printed book with beautiful photos. And locations you can always encode with qr codes for easier use. PDF are good for manuals not books I would like to enjoy
Do you have experience with Avis safari rental? Im totally inexperienced....have a week worth of drive time in a manual. Never drove a 4x4 and itll be the first time self-driving in Africa.....specifically Namibia. On another note, ur vdos so far have been very useful and helpful for a newbie.
Well, thank you Andrew, but unfortunately, I will NOT be visiting South Africa. That place is a mess. Confiscate camera equipment and a drone?! My guess with Botswana is it must be a spiritual aspect as to how you feel there. I've noticed that with many places I've been in the world. Wait Andrew; I pause at 18:57 mark to say YES, please do the book about your campsites! Of course I'm watching over a year late, so maybe you've done it. I check to see, but if not, do it. What a pleasing video this was.
Thanks for another great video. A personal question, Are you moving from England as your home? Feel free not to answer if it is to personal. I was just wondering, after seeing you Videos with Ronny.
wait, isn't this an old story? I'm quite sure that you published a video about this thing happened to your equipment at the airport months ago .. I'm really confused right now.
If I was renting and going in into the bush, I won't be happy getting a brand new car. I'd want something well tested. Both the vehicle and the camping half of it.
@Andrew, I don't get it... are you a passenger for this trip? You do not actually get to rent a truck and drive it, but someone must drive it for you? I cannot imagine something worse than that.
Proceeds to tell viewers that there's no struggle to "get stuff" in africa and that it's developed ... next scene, tell viewers you might get the shits from hotel water.
Thanks. What is the best wildlife country, Kenya? I will be binging expensive gear for night-time shooting. I didn't know SA was primitive in the Duty taxes.
Another "Yes" vote here for the campsite book....
Your production quality is getting so good!

That landscape is so captivating! I hope I can visit it one day. Thanks for the absolute quality content Andrew, you make the best videos
No one does overland videos as well as you! Can't wait to see the rest of the trip.

Its already underway!
Just discovered your channel and am very impressed
People like you are the reason why Australia is called the lucky country

Yes, and there is nothing like Australia!
As a Long time 4WD driver in EAC, I really enjoy your production

Love the V8 diesel sound of that Land Cruiser so much!!
straight 6, not a v8
Great work, Production value is getting really good!

YES for the campsite book!!!!
G'day, bloody love the book idea, also a bit of inspiration to make my own personal one to remember all the camp sites I set up throughout life.
Your take on Botswana is the same for me for Mexico we travel freely and find the most amazing places. God speed St Andrew Pierre White

Great idea for a series - just what I have been inspired to do my your films! Many thanks.
Yes to the campsite book ....... we have thought of the same thing for Baja !!!
So given that you have decided to ditch the 79 trayback build in Oz due to rear axle weight concerns, how did you find the vehicle on this expedition as at times it did look very rear heavy? I personally don't think there is much getting away from some sort of rear axle weight imbalance
I thoroughly enjoyed that thanks Andrew. And i would buy your campsite book. A big hard cover copy would definitely sit on my coffee table.
Definitely, i think a digital download is not going to give the "feel" that such book give.
Please do the campsite photo book. You've beautifully captured many amazing places. So many gorgeous sunsets.
Oh how I miss Botswana!
Time to do a self drive trip like this, I think. Great video, thanks Andrew.
Your campsite book idea...hell yes that'd be a great read we think. Let us know if you ever decided to actually do it & thanks for sharing another incredible journey with us. Cheers from Calgary Alberta 🇨🇦
Thanks for sorting out the audio, interesting vid, vehicle looks overloaded.
He has a good job
I really enjoy your videos Andrew.
Very informative video. I'm thinking of doing this myself but of course I'm bringing my own Jeep from the US
The truck looks like it could use heavier rear springs, or maybe air bags?
hi, i enjoy your vidéos. i'm interesting to your opinion of the choice of euro norm (european)overlanding vehicules.thanks
Great video as always! What are those horizontal strips on the front bumper? Blanks for LED DRLs?
Lovely bushveld scenes
Thanks for the video. Still love the troopy though and glad you are building one now. Anymore information on the one this video would be appreciated, i.e. the build or links to more pictures. Thanks.
It may sound funny, or strange, but I get that same feeling when I hit France. It seems to get a bad wrap, but I love France.
How can this video even get one dislike it's just such a good video keep up the amazing work
haters will hate
Must be them pajero/shogun owners that can't let it go
Outstanding!
I think the campsite book is a good idea.
Great video again! What time of year did you film this?
Okay you have my attention. So, what's a ballpark figure for a trip like this?
Andrew I can see from the video, you passed through Ghanzi and packed by our new mall, by Shorite.
Shoprite. A horrible shop in South Africa
Audio much better on this version.
Its a new upload. Sorry about that. Shite happens :-)
No worries still very much enjoy your videos.
No problem. I do like your videos very much. Thanks for providing them.
the idea of a campside-photobook would be great! ;)
Hi Andrew, could you recommend a gps navigation/map unit or app for overlanding in the United States.
I love a photo coffee book from you Andrew. I want an actual one hardbound that I can show to people.
Grande Andrew
Great Idea on the book, You should also if possible put the location so us lot can share the same experiences.
Daniel
Waiting for printed book with beautiful photos. And locations you can always encode with qr codes for easier use. PDF are good for manuals not books I would like to enjoy
Does that LC79 runs a 1HD-FT engine???

I've been in search of a 4x4 rental company for my Africa journey but it seems info on the web is rather confusing.
Is it possible to hire a vehicle and travel in convoy.. Like be alone and not be... For those who haven't been to Africa..
Awesome,thks.
Well, thank you Andrew, but unfortunately, I will NOT be visiting South Africa. That place is a mess. Confiscate camera equipment and a drone?! Thanks for another great video. A personal question, Are you moving from England as your home? Feel free not to answer if it is to personal. I was just wondering, after seeing you Videos with Ronny.
I have moved permanently to Western Australia.
Thanks. Love your informative and fun Videos.
wait, isn't this an old story? I'm quite sure that you published a video about this thing happened to your equipment at the airport months ago .. I'm really confused right now.
There was a short blog posted in July. This is the full story, with six episodes.
How much does the rent cost?
Yeah I'm wondering what a ballpark figure for a trip like this might cost.
The problems we found was that the smaller gas stations wouldn't accept cards as all purchases had to be paid in cash
Cape Town Airport...this worst in SA when it comes to anything customs wise.
If I was renting and going in into the bush, I won't be happy getting a brand new car. I'd want something well tested. Both the vehicle and the camping half of it.
THANKS BEAUTY VIDEO
@Andrew, I don't get it... are you a passenger for this trip? You do not actually get to rent a truck and drive it, but someone must drive it for you? I cannot imagine something worse than that.
Paul is a close friend. We did a trip together. He happens to be consulting to Safari Drive. You drive yourself.
I would buy your campsite book.
I'm from Botswana.
Fixed! No more wine while editing ;-)
Sorry for a dumb question, do you carry weapons with you?
No question is dumb. No. there is no need or threat that would require one.
4xOverland ty, sir
I had to laugh at the comment "undeveloped, less developed" LOL
What next ? Rhodesian solution perhaps ? Tin Pot maybe ??
I have been nailed before - for quoting Yes Minister.
4xOverland Feel free to use more quotes more often, thanks.
You sold me. Now can you get on the phone with my significant other to convince her?
First!
Proceeds to tell viewers that there's no struggle to "get stuff" in africa and that it's developed ... next scene, tell viewers you might get the shits from hotel water.
Yes. Its Africa.
LOL, that it is... That it is. Come back to the Mojave... You left a lot on the table out here.
What is a carnie???? Speak English please?
Its French. 'Carnet de passage'.
Thanks. What is the best wildlife country, Kenya? I will be binging expensive gear for night-time shooting. I didn't know SA was primitive in the Duty taxes.
I've been to Cape Town a few times for work. Its a sad, corrupt, dangerous country.
