  • My road legal electric scooter is a hoot to ride. I have owned this for 1 year so it's about time I show and tell.
    It runs from a hot-swappable 36v lithium battery pack. Avoid the cheaper SLA batteries, although they can still be used.
    Disc brakes front and rear, removable seat post and alloy wheels with chunky 12" off road tyres and adjustable shocks.
    The thing that separates this from other electric scooters is that the 800w brushless hub motor is mounted on the rear wheel. No chain or cogs means every Joule of energy goes directly to the wheel. This will easily provide more power and torque than a 1000w motor with a chain.
    The motor is free-running, which means you can coast thus increasing battery life.
    A hub motor also means that there is absolutely no maintenance required and is very quiet, very responsive. Probably a little too responsive!
    Additionally, it is weatherproofed.
    The scooter also folds easily for transportation.
    You have to do a bit of paperwork (in the UK) with DVLA to get a registration plate and of course insurance is compulsory. It can be made road legal across the whole of EU.
    I've never seen any others on the road, so it certainly attracts attention!
    Thanks for watching. If you get one, please share your ride experience.
    ~You might want to check out www.evoscooters.co.uk
    BTW I would never drive quickly over speed ramps in other forms of transport!

    Very cool scooter love the mirrors guess thats aftermarket.. im looking into e scoots because of laws where im at anything under 800watts you dont need anything and where i am they will be on you crazy fast! I got stopped for "driving" on my own Property! (In my drive way) they watched me for a minute guessing hoping i would pull onto the street when i didn't and just went up and down running the gas out of the bike before putting it away for winter they pulled up fast jumped out the car yelling turn the bike off put your hands on the car lol still waiting for court date.

      Thanks Miguel! Yes the mirrors are also indicators and daylight running lights and were made by Winkku. You can't buy them new anymore but sometimes they appear on eBay. Yeah this is 800w but is very light so is quite fast. You can register it for the road. Good luck with the court case!

    The break squeal on the EVO has been sorted via minor tweaking. Apologies for my sniffing during the vid, the Pivothead is sensitive to that kind of thing!

    Easy Marcus. How far did you to travel on the Uberscoot in the clip ?

    • @marcusoroberts
      @marcusoroberts  4 года назад +1

      On this clip only approx. 18 miles (including leaving it uncharged for a day). More than capable for double that on full throttle.

    hi Marcus, If you see this could you please let me know if this can be riden on a cbt licence, I was looking into getting one whilst I save up for my A2 licence. cheers

    • @marcusoroberts
      @marcusoroberts  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Zak. I believe you can, because the power rating is well within the allowable limit for the CBT. Remember that if you get an electric scooter, it must be sold as a Road Legal version and come with the CoC (Certificate of Conformity) so you can register it. Cheers.

    Awesome fella. Glad to see a UK post and it's on the road, get in boss. Now sorry to be a pain but what is it like on hills and such..
    What is your genuine opinion on an 800w 36v chaos. I don't have much money and need some transport. I'm looking at above model to get me about. Would you think it will cover 10 miles with some slight hills and semi rough roads/dirt tracks. And do you think it's OK to use on dog walking type paths in the wet. As I have lots of green lanes around my way. Thanks for the video and hope for a reply.

      Hi and thanks for comments! To be honest, it can be a bit sluggish if you start on a steep incline. But it will pull you up quicker than a cycle. Depends on your weight and how much stuff you carry. I weigh around 13st and carry a heavy rucksack and always gets me to wherever.
      I know of the Chaos; it's a chain drive similar to my first scooter which was a 36v 1000w Evo scooter but was not as powerful as this hub drive model. Chain drives are not as direct as the hub motors. Also, like a cycle, require regular maintenance and adjustment. The advantage is you can change both sprockets to tune the gearing for acceleration, hill climbing or faster cruising.
      Traction in wet is exceptionally good with most scooters, whether you have road tyres or all terrain tyres. On this scooter I have an all terrain on the front and a road tyre on the rear.
      Typically a cheaper 36v SLA battery (Sealed lead acid) would only get your around 7-9 miles, but a lithium would get you 2.5 times more distance and is much lighter. Again this depends on the Amperes Hour of the battery.
      Hope this helps
      Thanks.

      Marcus Roberts brilliant. Thank you very much you have more than answered my questions. I do wish I had the money to buy the 1 you have but at this time I don't and can only afford the more cheaper chaos 800w 36v @ £230 then maybe I can in time buy a bigger motor and build my own 18650 linked up battery pack as I've found that to buy such a battery pack ready made would cost around £500 just for that on its own. So I'm looking to be as cheap as can as funds are very very tight. Again thank you very much for the reply and for the videos you have posted. All have been a big help. Thanks again and take care.

      That sounds like a real bargain James. Sounds like you know exactly what you're doing and have solid plans to tweak and maximise the scooter. Go for it and share when you do! Looking forward to seeing. Thanks Bro'

    hi marcus
    if you are still monitoring this vid could you help me out, which insurance company are you using, because i am having problems getting any, plus what procedure did you go through from sending in the conformance form and v62 together,? ie what else did you send, i cant seem to find the right helpful info to start me in the right direction,i am 62 years old, disabled,{no restrictions for driving as my illness is all internal}
    i have a motability car, but there are reasons why i want a scooter this summer, i have been diagnosed terminally ill and need to see and smell fresh air with wife and dog,
    scooter came yesterday but did not work so company is sending an exchange on tuesday, so need to try and setup insurance but do not know how,?.
    can you advise i know where in town i get my number plate but need info to get it,
    many thanks

      +vassilij zietseff (davlyn) Hi DaveI'm sorry to hear of your illness and hope there is hope for recovery soon.What kind of scooter did you get? Was it from EVO Scooters UK? Anyway, here's the system...a bit of paperwork involved I'm afraid.Get a V55/4 leaflet which can be downloaded from DVLA. Fill in as much as you know. Get a Certificate of Newness which can be downloaded. Again, just complete the blanks and anything you don't know, just put in what you think, doesn't matter; it's an import even if bought in the UK. Within 2 weeks you get a V5Insurance you must have and it's classed under 'Motor bike Insurance', so car insurance no claims doesn't count. Quote the reg. from the V5 to Bikesure or whoever. Get insured. Ge a helmet. I used BikeSure which weren't too cheap, but about the only company willing to do this. Police recognise this policy obviously. Before you know, you'll be hitting the streets and turning heads!Let me know how it goes fella.Marcus

    • @marcusoroberts
      @marcusoroberts  8 лет назад

      +vassilij zietseff (davlyn) So, you send your V55/4, Certificate of Newness and your Certificate of Conformity (included with road legal scooters) and a copy of your driver licence or similar ID off to DVLA. Don't forget to include the cheque for £60 (approx).

    How much aprox was the insurance? Thanks

    • @marcusoroberts
      @marcusoroberts  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Andrew. Insurance is currently about £120 / year 3rd party only. I got it through Bikesure and they weren't able to do fully comp. It has to be insured with a motorbike/scooter insurer and would've been cheaper for me if I had previously had motorbike insurance.

    • @ahalestoned

      Thanks mate. Im getting one for sure. What is the battery life like? Im prob gonna ride it 2 miles to work and 2 miles back , 5 days a week,. Do you have an idea how much it is to buy new batteries aprox??? Cheers

    • @marcusoroberts
      @marcusoroberts  6 лет назад

      With the standard SLA (Sealed Lead Acid) batteries you'll get about 10-15 miles and spare 36v 12Ah batteries are about £70. The much better Lithium LiFePo4 batteries would set you back about £300-£350 for a 36v 20Ah one, but are good for at least 20+ miles and are much lighter and last for years. If you're only doing 4 miles a day then you'll have no problems with the SLA batteries. Good luck Andrew and let me know how you get on. Incidentally my scooter just passed its first MOT after 3 years from new (very little to fail on it really!).

      I don't believe the Chaos is road legal?
      You cannot make a scooter road legal unless stated by the dealer that the product has a CoC associated with it.
      The requirements are:
      1. The scooter has a CoC (Certificate of Conformity) which indicates it has gone through EU type approval. This is NOT the same as EU conformity. The seller will indicate if it has a CoC
      2. You complete a V55 and return to the DVLA (or EU equivalent) along with a Certificate of Newness which can be downloaded.
      3. Pay DVLA £55 and wait a week. Then get a number plate made.
      4. Get insured. Bikesure are pretty cheap. Others can do too.
      5. Go ride and enjoy.
      P.s. you will be asked to tax this after the first year. You need to call the number...but asked to pay nothing.

      Question.. if you have to still do all that than why get the escoot at all?? Why not just a 50cc scooter since legally its the same no? Gas scooter faster some what and only takes a min to put in gas vs wait for charge
