Contract rates lag spot rates around 90 days. The biggest decline in Van spot rates happened about 4-5 weeks ago. It happened almost overnight. Contract rates will follow shortly. Since May, each months fleet failures are breaking the previous month’s all time record.
There is definitely a correlation between contract and spot rates however, contract rates have been significantly higher than the spot market. This allows significantly more buffer in terms of margin while also allowing you to play in the spot market safely.

I am very curios to know the best way to go about getting contracts with shippers, so I can move away from load boards, and the sporadic nature of them.
