As an American, I'm so envious of what you do, Julie!! Been researching my ancestors (the infamous Selby and Grey famlies) for almost a decade and hope to retrace their steps one day. We really do need to 'milk' our seniors for their memories - they're so much better than books and documentaries! And you're doing all of it - first hand accounts/memories, documentaries and real visits. What you do is just as important as history itself! Thank you!!
I've had such a good time since I found your channels! Still binge watching ALL of them. I love how excited & emotionally involved you are with every place you go or every project. Following you is the only way I will ever get to see all the beautiful castles, manors, their history & landscape that goes with each place. I love everything about European/England's history & the people especially. You are related to so many of them now!
Love the content, and the British engineering!! But, can we maybe get aristocrat Julie Sandwich a fashion consultant, a stylist, a personal shopper even?!!? A visit to the salon for a basic wash and set?!!!!!! Please, address the consistent just-rolled-out-of-bed hair at the very least. And maybe put a clutch in the full throttle American (over)enthusiasm? (Yeah, cheesy shameless puns totally intended) It's all distracting and a little embarrassing, and I'm American so therefore should be unphased by it.
Julie married into the top level of the English aristocracy (Prince Edward's son was born Viscount Severn). Many people disliked her before they met her. She didn't arrive knowing the rules, attitudes, language, habits of mind etc etc of the English. Being an American myself (two years in London as a student) I was stunned by the extent to which England is a foreign country. Even at my lowly level in society there were people who said to my face how much they disliked Americans. Julie would have needed a public persona, a way to ask ignorant questions but also not to shame her new family. (And not to have her heart broken every time she was treated coldly as not 'one of us.') I agree with you in that I wouldn't have gone for quite so much bounce, but the 'look' she's come up with is oddly right for her position -- no one is as shabby as the aristocracy! She wasn't a wealthy American wife bringing cash to Mapperton, but as we've seen she has been a dynamo of income-generating activity. The family is blessed to have her, and seem to know it!
I’d rather she use her money towards her house than a personal stylist. She did come in with a convertible. She would have to rudely waste the time of her host and “fix” her hair. I think she is a natural beauty and is a compliment to Americans.
