Helpful tip - make sure to double check your off position in the dip switch app. We were getting nowhere until we realized that our "on" and "off" direction was backwards. Once we changed that setting in the app and set the address, everything was working perfectly. Great video - thanks for the help, WLH!
can you use one decoder for say 4 led strips and also for some light fixtures combined? i mean do you have to daisy chain from the encoder to other lighting fixtures?
how to control argb light with dmx controller.. there is an app named LED Strip Studio which uses DMX Controller to control cinematic style lights. can u make an viceo for this if possible???
How many amps is the power supply in the video? The one from the link looks larger. Would like to get by with a smaller supply like the one in the video if possible.
I’m sure you’ve moved on but for the record this is actually compatible, you just won’t have white, obviously. Just don’t connect anything to the white channel, and you’ll just have a dead channel on your DMX Universe. For anyone looking, I highly suggest doing a setup with rgbw as quickly going to white when a chorus goes ‘big’ has an incredible effect.
That's brilliant! Newbie question, though: how do you control the decoder with the app? Do you need to create a LAN connection (from the iPhone to the DMX decoder) or else way?
I don’t think the app is to control the decoder. He didn’t explain it well, but I think the app is just a handy tool that tells you how to arrange the dipswitches on the decoder to assign it to a specific DMX address
I'm going to follow your instructions as shown above. Looks like just what we need. MY QUESTION: what do you do with the "pins" on the end of the LED light strip?? Wrap it in black tape?? Cut it off?? Just leave it alone?? Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.
Hello I'm so impressed and from UGANDA one of the local church in Adjumani, I would like to know how much it would cost me to get the DMX recorder in Uganda and the led lights
Very useful video. Unfortunately, in India we are not able to purchase these items from Amazon. Can you guide us to purchase this from a diffrent app/location? God bless you🙌🙌🙌
I'm creating a booth (2 of them total, one each) for our musicians that will have 6 rows of LED Strip lights across the front and sides. How many DMX Decoders and Power Supplies would you suspect I would need to order? We would be ordering these now for Easter.
I don't know much about this stuff, but I watched your RGBW LED tape and fabric church stage design idea video. did you have to have a separate dmx decoder for each of the panels you guys made?
Thanks for the useful tips. Love the frames with tape light and string design. Do you have a "how to" for making those? Would love something like that at our church as well. Thanks again.
We are currently building a design very similar to install the first week of nov. I’m filming as we go to hopefully have a video for the cannel soon after! Thanks for watching
I have the DMX decoder for my RGB LED light strips (4 x 5M) and It works great and your video really helped. I recently acquired the WS 2815 individually addressable LED and I have have some great sequences with them controlled by an Arduino. Do you know what I would need to put these into my DMX chain? (it would be some other kind of dmx decoder maybe 4 or 8 ports with a 1 channel with a dimmer function and 1 for power - Data Line In from the Led Striped) All I want to is add them to each scene for a controllable on/off when I need them to come in.
I have done something very similar. I have an Arudino Nano connected to a MAX485 that is accepting DMX input from QLC+. I can set static colours and have the ability yo trigger some of my own lighting effects/sequences that I have created using FastLED. Let me know if of interest...
What if i want to make 8 tubular led dmx lamps with led strips, would i need a dmx conversor for each strip or i can connect them in series to only one dmx conversor ?
Is it possible to reuse a roll of led tape if the entire roll is not used? Say my design only uses half the roll - are you able to cut the tape and then reuse the latter part later or is the excess portion not usable?
Does this mean each each decoder dip switch settings will control only one color? What if you want the strip connected to the decoder change colors ow do you do that?
So I was just wondering, if we were to buy the same exact set up as your but with a smaller light controller (obey 4) would I have the same address as you? If not, how do would you find the address?
DMX works on a 512 block grid. Each fixture takes up space on the grid starting at any available block. For example these strips take up three blocks on the grid and you can only address them in available block where you can fit three side by side. If you already have fixtures taking up blocks 1 - 50 then you would start one of your strips on block 51. It will take up 51, 52 and 53 but you only need to address it to 51. Your next strip will start at 54 and so on. I hope this helps. (you can address yours the same as mine as long as you have the available "blocks") Thanks for watching. Great worship leaders are always learning. 9 years ago I would have had no idea what I was talking about, but with lots of exposure and time with DMX and stage lighting I have learned a ton. Hope you will do the same.
Thanks for the guide... i followed the steps but i have found that when i turn them on i get a weird high pitched noise coming through the vocal microphone channels... any ideas on how to fix this?
That’s really strange. Make sure they are not on the same power circuit as your stage box and or anything sound related. Let me know if this helps. I also use a different decoder now. I’ll post a link
Very nice I am a new subscriber. I have a design to go completely wireless controlled and powered by li-ion @ 200 nodes at full for 8 hours all from a hand held remote. Would like to share privately if you have an interest in testing but dont want to use your channel to advertise.
[Links broken now]; if the links description with 'ws28xx' is correct then you're referring to addressable 'pixels'. This 'dumb' RGB is totally different.
I found your video with the yarn panels like forever ago. I want to go to this instead of the cheap lights we have now. (It would basically be a 1x2 with the LEDs attached to it.) Do I need that app (4:16) in order to make the lights work or can I just replace my current lights with this configuration and have the lighting software figured out everything?
I have tried this with an ETC Colorsource AV. I think I’ve done everything correctly. I even called technical support, and they think I have it right, but I only get a red output. Does anyone have an idea what the problem is?
If you wanna be anal about it, why not just replace the terminal's standard screws with ones that have a good point on them? That way you can just leave the wire contained within its jacket.. 😉
Worship Leader Hangout I am having trouble getting the dmx decoder to work with the led lights. I have plugged in all wires into their corresponding channels and the led lights do not turn on. I made sure to turn on the dmx decoder and nothing. I’m using an rgb led strip, the same dmx decoder from the video, and a power supply of 12v 5a. What am I doing wrong? Please help.
If you are sure you have power and everything is connected correctly then I would double check your DMX address on your dip switch. Make sure it is set correctly. The last dip switch on these decoders need to be off to use with your lighting software/board. On mine it’s labeled “fun” anyway, that needs to be off. It’s hard to troubleshoot through a comment so, I hope this helps.
What about those strips with only three wires, which individual bulbs can be controlled independently? You’ve got decoder for those kinda strips? I want them on my set.
@@WorshipLeaderHangout Yeah strips with 5 wires can only be controlled entirely, the 3 wire ones have individual LED control ability. So you can do animations or left to right and stuff like that.
So i built 8 of these on vertical pvc pipes. When each one is plugged in individually everything is fine, but when I daisy chain the DMX from one decoder to the next I always get a flicker. anyone else having this problem?
If we have two decoders with the same setup do you just chain the two in order to have the same colors for separate strips? Or does it automatically chain wirelessly through the app when both decoders are set with the same code? Hopefully that makes sense.
Ok so I like to have a different dmx address for each decoder so that I can program a different color for each strip. I hope that answers your question. Thanks for watching!
Question. So my church is getting ready for Easter. And we have this background that we want to attach these acrylic tubes to it with the led lights inside. Can I cut the strip little by little or would it be easier to have the one long led strip?
Looks like a simple solution. Do you know how to control individually addressable led strip using DMX?
idk if you're still looking for an answer but you should check out Touchdesigner and pixel mapping
Very clearly explained. Thank you!
Helpful tip - make sure to double check your off position in the dip switch app. We were getting nowhere until we realized that our "on" and "off" direction was backwards. Once we changed that setting in the app and set the address, everything was working perfectly. Great video - thanks for the help, WLH!
First Celina What power adapter did you use? How many voltages?
sounds like you got a chicken in the background lol
What software are you using to control the dmx? Do you have to import the decoder as a fixture into your program? Is the device info available online?
Hi! How can I know how big of a power supply I need for multiple led strips together?
Yo, The Led tape in Link number 3 is not compatible with this setup FYI. I learned this after I cut it:)
I see an M32 in the Background, we have this console at our school, too!!
Dang what school do u goto its hella cool
Just the video I've been looking for! So helpful, thank you!
That's a good product to do. I've never seen anything but some weird arduino set up and have always wanted something like this. Thank you. Thank you
Do you guys use any lighting for your drums?
Hey, I have a question...
Which chanels are which? Chanel 1: Dimmer; Chanel 2: Red; Chanel 3 Green; Chanel 4 Blue???
up :)
I want to patch this DMX decoder into my Magic Q light board. What's the best way to do that? I want to be able to change the colors from the booth.
I can only get the LED strip to light up red…no other colors! Does anyone know what I need to do to get other colors to work?
I need to adress individual LEDs or at least clusters via DMX, not just the whole stripe.
can you use one decoder for say 4 led strips and also for some light fixtures combined? i mean do you have to daisy chain from the encoder to other lighting fixtures?
how to control argb light with dmx controller.. there is an app named LED Strip Studio which uses DMX Controller to control cinematic style lights. can u make an viceo for this if possible???
I am distracted by his cuteness.😅
How do you patch something like this to a wireless DMX output? I have a small traveling ETC board I would like to use this one.
you confused people by not explaining things like the power brick connector wiring orientation...thumbs down
How many amps is the power supply in the video? The one from the link looks larger. Would like to get by with a smaller supply like the one in the video if possible.
Madison Coates I would also like to know this.
I'm also curious about this. I bought LED strips today and they only specify a 12V DC power requirement, but not an amperage
How about the profile for your lighting console? Aren't you going to need to tell your console how many channels it uses and what channel does what?
My strip has rgb+positive, how to connect that in 4 channels?
Not compatible, but you can get led strips for 5$ so not too bad :)
Does anyone else have the issue that once it's tightened on the top after the wires being connected they just fall out? Help
That's brilliant! Newbie question, though: how do you control the decoder with the app? Do you need to create a LAN connection (from the iPhone to the DMX decoder) or else way?

I have the strips converted to dmx, I have abelton live 10. What inferface are you using to get them to communicate?
Matt Grimes MESSAGE!
Or DMXIS. That's what I use with Ableton midi clip and it's like magic =)
it can be use for pixel mapping if we add a DMX/USB to use software ?
What app on my smart phone can I use to control DMX
How many led strips can you control with one decoder?
How exactly do you pick what address they are?
Question, what size power supply did you use, ac to 12v dc, but what amperage power supply did you use for a roll of led tape?
5A

Can u run chase on it
Can this decoder drive addressable rbg led strip? I can't get this to work :(
I found the answer. It can't.

How to control it with dmx to be mixing colors 😢
so i want to build 6 various sizes of "light polls" . can I use just one dmx decoder or do I need 6 seperate decoders?
You can use 1, but if your power supply doesn’t have a high enough amperage, the strips could dim.
Do u need a controller per lighting unit
I have a 2500 square bar open room, It would be about 60 16ft LED strips to fill that room. How many 24v LED strips can I link together ?
How many channels of DMX does this use?
Dan R I set it up as a RGB 3 channel fixture. Thanks for watching.
How would I control a WS2815 strip via DMX as those are individually addressable LEDs?
Gracias 👏🏻
How to set binary at the dmx decoder? please show it Thanks

I don't know much about this stuff, but I watched your RGBW LED tape and fabric church stage design idea video. did you have to have a separate dmx decoder for each of the panels you guys made?
Hi.. just wondering if we can use the dmx control for SMD 1206/0805 and also any single color LED stripes? Thank u
Would this work with white color only led strip? Or with regular led lights
Absolutely amazing 👏 love your job, where can I possibly get DMX decoder
in a case were my rgb wire is black, brown, yellow, blue, how do i connect it?

What voltage and ampage is the psu? The decoder says 3x8a output so does the psu need to output 24a? Most small psus output 2a
Looks simple but how do you control dimm, strobe And chases
Hey would you like to explain what you used at around 5:01 and also 5:10? like the cables you are connected to the decoder, where it is going to?
What power brick did you use? would be real help
thank you

Thanks for the guide but i dint understand the coding part how did you get 131 and how yu set the code on the box
How much of led strip length does it provide?
Can you control the LED with resolume arena?

hi
how do you connected the phone?
How can I connect a Quad Row LED Strip (24v - 2 lead Blk and red) to the DMX Controller? Can I use 2 of the WRGB Conectors?
How many strips can we add for 1 decoder can we extend
Hi just wondering does this allow you to pixel map and individually control each led?
What about those strips with only three wires, which individual bulbs can be controlled independently? You’ve got decoder for those kinda strips? I want them on my set.

@WLH - Can I link the tape strips to other stage DMX controlled lights from the decoder and control them all with the DMX512 Controller?
the decoder is a dmx device so as long as you give it three address spaces (RGB) and it's not taking up another address already assigned, it's good.
So i built 8 of these on vertical pvc pipes. When each one is plugged in individually everything is fine, but when I daisy chain the DMX from one decoder to the next I always get a flicker. anyone else having this problem?
Using 2 dmx decoders and get flicker every 1 minute to 3 minutes.
What size screwdriver is that?
Helpful video. Just curious what DMX controller you are using.
M2PC with the M-PC software
How do i control via the ethernet cable?
Either a DMX to Ethernet converter, or a digital DMX console.
How can I connect two LED tapes and they work independently?
No. This is a 'dumb' LED tape controller. You'd need multiple of these controllers or look at addressable strip (pixels).
Hi! Are the LEDs dimmable the way you set them up?
You can dim each color
Have you ever used Art-net with those encoders? If so, how?
