DIY Large Rustic Coffee Table | Wooden Coffee Table Tutorial

- I absolutely love this oversized coffee table I designed and built for my formal living room! It is a large, rustic coffee table with modern, black faux metal legs. This thick wooden coffee table is very substantial and is a stand out piece in any room. If you are wanting the look of a Restoration Hardware coffee table without the price tag, I highly recommend trying out this design!
This coffee table is built entirely out of common board (pine).
Before beginning to build this coffee table for your space, measure your room and couches, because this coffee table is very large! You may decide to shorten the length of the table top to fit your space if necessary or even shorten the legs so your table sits lower to the ground, depending on the height of your couch seats. Here's how I decided on my coffee table dimensions:
-Length of 71" is equal to the length of my sofa minus the width of the arms.
-Total height of 19" is equal to the height of my couch seats.
-Width of table needs to allow for an egress on both sides of at least 14".
If you want to keep it simple and replicate my table exactly, follow my cut list below!
If you decide to try this project for yourself, I want to see! TAG ME ON IG @AmandaFallonHomes in your project pictures =)
Table Top:
(6) 1x12x6 Common Boards (top and bottom boards) cut to 71"
(2) 1x8x6 Common Boards (exterior side boards) cut to 71"
(4) 1x8x6 Common Boards (interior side boards) cut to 69.25"
End Pieces/"Corks":
(1) 1x8x6 Common Board cut into (2) pieces of approximately 32.25". Measure these distances AFTER your table top is fully assembled to find the exact length you need to cut them to.
Frame Legs (2x4 Pine):
-(4) cut to 27.5" for horizontal leg pieces
-(4) cut to 9.75" (vertical leg pieces) NOTE: if you want a lower table that will look better next to lower couch seats, shorten this measurement.
My Stain Recipe:
I love this mix because it coordinates with my flooring so well!
Step 1: Apply Varathane Wood Conditioner (rstyle.me/+0V8_uuwr89Fl4bSGNU...) generously, let dry.
Step 2: Apply Varathane Classic Gray Stain (rstyle.me/+9Ql412kb2AaHh4do0n..., let dry.
Step 3: Apply Varathane Briarsmoke Stain (rstyle.me/+ngDY9sVyebX_wGkrr8..., let dry.
For my mom's coffee table, the Classic Gray Stain that I used was expired and so the table came out gray-er than expected and too gray for my mom's house, which is why I added a coat of Minwax Early American Stain at the end.

Amanda, these videos are great! As much as you use the trim head screws I feel like you should know about Kreg Jig. It's a simple pocket screw system that sold in the big box stores and on Amazon. There are ton stronger than trim head screws and completely disappear with a little plugs that they come with. You can also use the Kreg jigs on the inside for a completely fastener free look.
Kreg R3 Jr. Pocket Hole Jig System (Jig System) www.amazon.com/dp/B000J43A7W/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_XFSXDBQ3RABGMKP098X7
Great feedback Thompson! Kreg jig is great and would add to the sturdiness of the coffee table for sure. Thank you so much for watching! Follow along on IG @AmandaFallonHomes ☺️
Me and my husband are looking into recreating something similar but, we are having a hard time into putting a price on it. How much would you charge for something like this?
I’m so glad you like it!! Unfortunately I’m not selling my designs at this time 🤍
Love it. However, I bought a rustic coffee table and I am clueless of what overall living room look. Should it be traditional or modern decor?
Hi Anisha! You can go either way or a blend of both! I think the key is to just keep the color palette neutral and mix textures (metal, wood, and textured fabrics). I’m sure it’ll look great!
@@AmandaFallonHomesOh, thanks for the tips; I'm working on it. So please keep the tutorials coming. God Bless.
Parvez Aslam good thanks so much love u 🇵🇰 very good thanks thanks 🤔 thanks 🤔 thanks
Thank you for this!! Do you think i can use this same method for dining table?
Thank you so much for watching! I would recommend using a kreg jig for the construction of a dining table to ensure that it will support the weight of people’s elbows, etc. Follow along on IG @AmandaFallonHomes ☺️
Lovely!!! About how much do you think it will cost to make this beautiful table?
I would guess about $120 or so! ☺️
Did you put a top coat?
Hi thanks for watching! I did not but if you are eating/drinking on your table you would want to do so. I would recommend matte polycrilic ☺️
Parvez Aslam good thanks so much love u 🇵🇰 very good thanks thanks 🤔 thanks 🤔 thanks 🤔
