    The problem with "don't haul cheap freight" is any given carrier can only hold out as long as they can afford to. I've held off on hauling loads for 3 mo because I refused to haul for dirt. But even after 3mo rates didn't change and now I'm forced to haul for less because there is always those carriers that will haul for free and don't stop pulling cheap. These brokers are literally laughing at me or saying my rate is absurd because they are consistently getting it moved for 1/3 or the rate.

What you all say makes no sense in reality.

    Turning down freight will do absolutely nothing because in the world of trucking what you won't do, someone else will...In my 25 years of driving, that has always been the case.
    If 80 percent of the drivers would simply shut down for two to three weeks, you not only minimize your financial loss, but you also get the authorities to come to the negotiation table at a faster rate. It's not rocket science people. It's simply hurting the supply enough to negatively affect the demand.

      Guys, it's always discussed at some solution "shut down for 1+ week! Let's come together and bring something something and etc and halt".... Nothing ever happens.
      There is a constant revolving door of new drivers who come in, know nothing... Do it for a month or two and leave. They don't know better, they also seem happy working for 600$ paychecks. So, we, who have been at it for years, are complaining to each other, while the green clowns are working for free.
      The best and most sensible way in my opinion is to go through the laws. 1$ a mile should be made illegal and that's it. There has to be a minimum set by law. The rates must be made public by law. Scum brokers get 5-10% of the rate and it should also be made public.

    I won't undercut reasonable rates just to screw guys over. But there are a ton of drivers out there that are up to their eyeballs in debt from truck and trailer payments, expensive insurance on a terrible driving record, and the inability to live on a lower income than they did when times were good because they bought a big house and every toy they could. And those are the guys that are screeching the loudest right now. And those are the guys that I don't really care if their cash grab folds on itself.

    It's all more about monopolies. Like California switching too all EV and natural gas.....they know the mega carriers will stay and the smaller guys will leave. Everything is switching to contract and corporate fleets, and swift and then are taking the cheap stuff. I drive for Crete who is a higher pay carrier and for the AZ-TX regional I'm on, we used to frequent a certain frito lay plant in Dalls, but recently Schneider took over that run, and we all know schneider is one of the lowest paying mega carriers so they probably offered cheaper rates.

    "It's controlled by the drivers". Looool. Supply & demand. If there isn't enough demand for supply, you don't need drivers. How the hell do drivers control anything when all the big mega carriers are swallowing contracts and pricing the freight down?

  • @rustyscrapper
    @rustyscrapper Год назад +1

    There has been a shortage of truck drivers for 40 years. The reason is, if all the freight is covered by drivers, shippers start driving down freight as low as it will go until no driver anywhere will take that load for that price. Sometimes savvy shippers will let freight sit for months if it's low priority fishing for a super low rate maybe a new operator etc. So prices always stay rock bottom the lowest anyone will work for. And then flood the industry with immigrants and give the immigrants subsidies so they can under bid everyone.
    Thats why.

    We are well past don’t haul cheap freight. We all been singing that song for years now and no real change. Because that like the trucking for dummies 101. We need a real structure detailed plan. Like a good starting example who set up/fleet cost the most to maintain and operate should be where the bar starts at and that way everyone else should be well taken care of. Wishful thinking I know but we need a real plan to help each other before it’s to late.

    International CDLs need to be banned from U.S. roads. A degree isn't recognized but they can operate 80k lbs next to your families. How many loads and jobs are lost to foreign drivers every day? THOUSANDS. The oilfield sand industry among most freight lines have been all but decimated by unqualified drivers who work for pennies. Ban it. Create jobs. Bring rates back up. Improve safety. The single biggest improvement that can be done right now. Make trucking great again!

    Everyone one wants to be owner operator leasing truck with high monthly payments. Every month them bills and cost of operations coming fast so the feel desperate to take whatever can keep them afloat or not get their equipment repo’d. Drivers than can sit days or do a load a week and make demands is some that paid his equipments off and have a good amount in saving account to sit out. But everyone gets a CDL and immediately runs to lease a truck without learning the business and the cost of operations

  • @Juli079

    I don't know why everyone thinks owner-operators haul for these low rates. It's actually the small carriers that have drivers and have no other choice. I assume they are too small to be able to secure some decent contracts and are forced to stay in the spot market. They keep running at a loss hoping next month it will get better. If you have drivers you have to give them miles otherwise they quit. Parking their trucks is not an option when they have tens of thousands of dollars in bills every month. At some point, enough of them will fail and the market will balance. Until then the rates will stay low.
