Super sick car, not a huge fan of LS in Z31s because its so common, but this thing is very well built I have an 87 NA with T-Tops and im planning to go turbo vg33 out of a pathfinder
Great video as always! This reminds of when Carlos Lagos LS swapped a 240 on Motor Trend. It feels like these cars are made for this setup. Lightweight, balanced and rear wheel drive with a bigger NA motor. Car manufacturers should take note because this isn’t fringe, it’s a great formula.
That’s a pretty sweet ride w/the swap. It looks like it belongs in there too!! Not many give the Z31 love, but I liked it when I was growing up. Makes me want to get one now!!
My brother had a CLEAN 85 turbo anniversary z and he just boosted the turbo with a cat back, that thing ripped for the little he had done and it never gave him problems, he just wrecked it lol
This is my favorite generation o the Nissan Z. Never knew what it was called until now: Z31. And it's swapped with a WS6 LS1? With nitrous? Totally wicked.
What a nice car. Thanks for sharing this review. I use to have one back in the day but this is a nice way to restore an old car and bring it back to life with a newer motor. I always loved the Z31 and it's nice to see there are other options instead of RB motors that are expensive to get now.
RUclips is on point with you today. This got recommended to me immediately after watching the your Hyundai N Vision video. I've been following the N Vision because it gave me hope that Hyundai didn't give up the rwd sports cars since they stopped making the genesis coupe (which I owned, started building and totaled). Then this video, on a car that I, myself am building an quite substantially. I bought someone else's project, that they starting tearing apart and (funny enough) is a faded blue with the clear coat disappearing lol. Seeing things like this motivate me to achieve my vision I have this build and future builds.
I had an 86 z31 not too long ago. It was NA and always felt underpowered but damn it made me feel like I was in the 80s. Loved driving it. Now seeing an LS1 in one pushin more HP, I reget selling mine.
The vg can take over 600 hp with just injectors a big turbo and a fuel pump an some tuning .... than an s13 suffrage swap to kill the squat so it hooks.. that simple .. 600hp car for less than 5k and very reliable wen done on e85
i've had a couple z31's, turbo and n/a, definitely a quick car, i wish i still had them especially my 89 n/a, bought as a shell for 600$, sourced the engine and trans at the junkyards super cheap, i rebuilt that engine, got the car running and sold it quickly to a young dude who later totaled it.. The turbo models have tons of potential, you do bolt ons, intercooler and raise the boost you have a weapon
Z31s are slept on. I have always loved them, i just hate trying to find parts for them. Which is why an LS makes so much sense. Basically what I would like to do to one of mine eventually. I wanna do one stock, one LS, and one RB. but that'll be a lot of dollars...
While there’s little aftermarket performance support there is lots and lots of parts available, due to Nissan using the vg30/vg33 in so many cars and trucks!
At first i was excited to see you finally review a Z31, until i saw the freaking LS! 😂 No hating, just sad you didn't get to experience the original Turbo V6.
Currently have been drifting a z31 for 3 years now and just realized that after 15-20 track days the car hasn’t left me stranded a single time. The vg30 is unkillable if you take care of it ❤️
I own a all original 1988 2+2 non turbo with an auto trans. 90k original miles runs perfect and everything works zero rust. I'm in love with that car I always wanted a z car. I LOVE THEM I hope to one day build my car as nice as this one.

If you do a google or youtube search for 300zx just about all you see are z32's. I didn't even realize until recently that there was a 300zx before the z32. I also think the new Z should have been badged as a ZX. Twin turbo Z's have always been ZX's in the past, not to mention they went back to a 3.0 liter. Thats a 300zx. *Also, also, Nissan should have spent the extra few thousand dollars to safety test a new chassis, so that they could have labeled it a Z35. As is, it's officially just a 370z facelift. (R)evised Z34. RZ34. Maybe I'm getting too hung up on names. But names mean something. A Ferrari wouldn't be a Ferrari without the name and the badge. And they guard that name ferociously. Because names mean something.
