Someone did that to my family. We were camped at a single site on a river feeding a huge lake. Hundreds of miles of shoreline with multiple unoccupied campsites and they had to park up right next to us, I was baffled but husband said they're so used to being up each others butts in more urban areas that it likely didn't even occur to them, and it was a well known good fishing spot. Then they cooked their catch and left the fish remains littered about on shore with us in our tents (in grizzly country I might add) and then anchored off shore in their boat to sleep.... I beg you're finest effing pardon? They did not just do that! I had to clear away their mess and walk it well away from camp in order to keep my kids safe from being bear snacks. Sometimes I really dislike people.

I totally get that. I live intentionally in a rural area and it never ceases to amaze me that people will almost always chose to build their homes RIGHT ON TOP of the other rural homes in the area. I had to purchase 100 acres just so I could build my house smack in the middle so no matter how much they want to they cannot build their ‘ranch’ (yes! They call their one acre of land that they stuff too many farm animals on (which is another sad story) a ranch!) I live in a rural area for a reason! Why do you think I would be so excited to have your way to big of a house crammed up my a$$?! Humans never cease to amaze me

I'm 69 years old, so that can tell you how long I've been around. In my early adult life, I was a free spirit. I did crazy stuff. I had fun. Now, I am enjoying life in a different way. I never thought that in my retirement life, I would have become a prepper, gardener, and homesteader. We live in uncertain times. I don't live in fear because my eternal home is in heaven. While my husband has health issues, it has held me back from some things, but I am never bored. My gardening and creative side keeps me content. What matters most in life is having good health, and at 69, I am blessed with great health, and what you do to keep your good health is what's important.

I worked 37 years as an RN. About half of that in acute care. Taking care of obviously terminal patients who were being kept alive bothered me. Well, let's just say it made me think. I was definitely a quality over quantity person. Now I'm 67 and disabled with autoimmune. I am much less independent that I was and have to adjust my expectations. But, I'm enjoying my extended family....the children and am about to become a grandma for the first and only time. Life can offer wonders at every stage. I'm inclined to allow death to come naturally and peacefully though. Wonderful video Amanda. You look really well.

Hi Amanda, I’ve been following you for 3 years now, and because of you, I was inspired to do a cross country drive in 2021. I retired from my nursing career after 36 years, and jumped into my suv, drove from my home in LA, headed north towards BC, with my final destination in Niagara Falls, Ontario to visit my family and stay with my elderly mother for 4 months.
I made several stops along the way to see my high school friends, as well as camp out in provincial parks . Having lived in Toronto for 3 decades, I’ve seen and drove to the east coast provinces, so this time I got the opportunity to drive from the west coast, through the Canadian Rockies, the prairie and can now say I’ve seen all the 5 Great Lakes!
I’ve been asked how I managed to do this solo, and was I not scared. Well I highly recommend this, it’s the most liberating, most exciting , most memorable time in my life that seeing the beautiful sceneries out there, being in the wilderness, there’s no room for fear!
I’m not done with the adventure…I want to do this again as there’s so much more to see!

The entire video was Beautiful. I thought the agressive predator was going to be a Giant Spider or Rattle snake. Or human. U firymtuantly it was a human.
There are so many scenarios that played it as you walked through the video. Leaving your pack by the River.
My friends, Son and a buddy planned for a year to head across Canada. And a backpacking trip to Alaska.
They had budgeted and purchased all they needed in supplies. They started in Abbotsford bc. Stopped in Hope at the river to cool their feet. As they were in the river , suddenly guys showed up out of no where. They figured they were being watched. The guys were on basic bikes. Grates their full packs and took ogg. They chased afymter them , grabbing their boots , attempting to get the footwear on.
They could see down the highway. The guys were met down the highway but still in view. The thieves, loaded their bikes and the packs in the back of the pick up and were gone.
They never got anything back. They lost all their money. Their DL and passports, all their I'd but all their fear. This was in hope bc.
I get every one want to enjoy the beauty outdoors but reality our society has changed. . Currently there is a young woman missing.
You are putting yourself I'm extreme risk. Old or young men are rapists, and murders. They target and watch who's traveling. Many people are also struggling and take everything. . your beautiful dog is not going to protect you! Predators planned intent. .
One guy kidnapped a woman at a coffee kiosk house drive through set up.
He was married with a child and had a shed set up for his his victims.. Yes, she wasn't the first. The police found he had supplies
In the forest of several areas where he was targeting aattacks. You can verify it. She was Murdered, assaulted for days. Her Dad was there right from the start. Her fiance was only a few minutes late picking her up but she was in the coffee house in a lit parking lot with stores open. She did everything right but this predator got her.
Do not do this to your family and friends who love you.
Extremely danferous in our changed society.
Your a smart lovely lady, stay alive and safe . Just get in the drivers seat and leave don't engage the old guy just get out of of there . Your dog is no protection. He's so so cute and adorable you must protectect him yourself.

Hi Amanda: Your story reminded me of a little hike I took with a friend on the edge of Coney Island Creek, in NYC. We were excitedly finding wild-growing herbs, until we very suddenly realized we were on the verge of a camp. We didn't see anyone; we were actually on city park land, but there was a clearing with a hut buried deep, and fishing lines extended over the banks of the creek. Suddenly I felt my heart beating -- not from fear, but from the very natural sense that we were intruding on someone else's camp. And this was in a heavily settled area! We swung wide away and made our way back to the area where we began. To say that: that person you encountered was probably missing a necessary sensibility, and brava to you both for working it through. I was especially glad to hear that you did not leave.

Wow. (I'm not alone in Wows, I see).... so much amazing you've shared in this one. Really noticing the music, and how you dovetail drone footage with music into natural sounds. You take us in close, and let us see the views from far away. You asked an amazing question, too... 5 days of meh, or 3 days of amazing (50 years / 30 years) - I can unpack that in several ways. Yes, I'd love the amazing, and that's the goal. But I also feel there's a way to have amazing within the ordinary, if I remember to look. So maybe the trick is remembering to look, too? Finally, I'm so glad you shared the tale of the unusual interaction with the German fellow. While I have a minute's worth of experience overnighting in my van outside of paid-for camp spots, it's still really new to me. I like being reminded of the simple etiquette. But more important for me, is learning that sometimes it can be helpful to do the hard thing of conversation and de-escalation on that edge of discomfort to get to a better result. I'm glad that worked out! Love the jumper and the purple potatoes too!!!

Thank you ☺️ and I totally agree with remembering to look and appreciate the ordinary. No amount of time can ever be guaranteed which is why it’s so important to do both, create the amazing and enjoy the ordinary.

I love the Rings of Power series!! Excellent job standing up for yourself. That's one thing that goes right up my you know what, someone encroaching on my camp. I post a sign or two down the road at the nearest turnaround that says, "Campsite Occupied. Please Respect Our Privacy," even though it's only me. I try to create the illusion that there are more than one person in camp. I even have one, for my two-week trip at base camp, that says family reunion lol😊

I am a live for the day girl also. I have been lucky to travel, work hard doing what I enjoyed. But sometimes that would also change my quality of life, faux finishing caused all the tendons in both arms upper and lower have been operated on now and my arm use is not complete. Also an elbow is replaced. So lovin doing something did change life out come for future. I went skydiving with BRUNO. Yes, most of you do not know Bruno, he is a famous dog that skydives and on the cover of time mag. I think 4 times. SO live and enjoy and adapt as needed. I have lived in my RV but want to do van life. So thank you so much. Due to being able to not work normal I am starting with no money. So thank you, your path is really helping me figure out that there is a way even at 64 and living in another country than where I was born.

Loved this! I would go the 70 route. I've already been living that life lately. I have my moments I wish to be more adventurous, do something more fun. For the most part I'm content. I'm am trying to move forward in my life, Lord willing, I'm 60. I love the adventure life if I could live it as I did some years back. Life in USA presently , I'm living it one day at a time. You have your van looking so comfy cozy. I'm currently living somewhere I can't make the room my own, so I'm looking forward to having a place to call home and make it my own. I don't need anything larger than a room size. That right now is my adventure.

Amanda, you are a beautiful soul. Thank you for sharing your life - the good and the bad. I love Brian's new set up and his area and where you were at are very similar in the flora. Waking up after a rain in high elevation desert are the best mornings! Grab some of that silver sage and put it in your potatoes next time - chef's kiss. As for the incident with the other nomad - I get it. Glad you could get that resolved and it is very rare to have those confrontations.

Gosh it’s good to have you and Frank back :) another cool video, the drone footage of gorgeous Canada 🇨🇦😍 , great music and I now want pan fried potatoes but is breakfast here in Australia and I ran out of gas so I’m boiling eggs in my airfryer but I’d rather vanlife than be in a house everyday even the worst. Quality over quantity every time. My dad has dementia and I cared for him for 4 years prior to him going into a care home and the start of my vanlife. I never want to end up in a care home ever, and plan to live out my days traveling in my van. It wasn’t seeing my dad in care, but rather I’ve felt this way since I can remember. My dad is non-verbal, can’t walk and has to drink his food - imo that’s not quality of life. Once I lose the ability to look after myself I don’t want to be here. I’m glad you brought up the topic of death because it seems to be such a taboo topic and I hope euthanasia was an option.

Hi, Amanda, love your channel and of course precious Frank. I also watch a channel featuring an American who has moved to Germany. She said that one of the hardest things she had to get used to was the way that total strangers, Germans, would come up to her and bluntly state their opinions about everything from the way she was dressed to how she was living her life. All that to say, I'm thinking, and hoping, that that guy respected you more because of the way you spoke to him, directly and honestly. But, still a scary situation! Please be safe out there!!

Hello Amanda , I just wanted to say that I agree 100% on everything you said at the end of your video I’m so proud of you that you took a stand for yourself as a woman. I don’t understand this world anymore. It just seems that people are just so rude in general. It’s all me me me and they don’t care about anyone else. I know there’s still some good people out there and I hope that both you and I come across them in our travels, wishing you and Frank the best💜💜

I know exactly what you mean as a single female camping. I think some people just don't understand it. But some people like to camp near others for reasons we might not know. And when it's a public spice they can park in the same place as others. But yes it's always courteous and polite to ask the people that are their first if they mind you parking there too.And sometimes it's just better to leave if you get a funny feeling.
