Been considering a 2 iron for a while as a replacement for a hybrid. Watched this video a couple weeks ago and it tipped me over the edge, got one and it is truly amazing. Great sound, flight, distance and the dispersion is so much tighter even on bad hits. Compared to a hybrid I have so much more confidence which helps massively when squaring up. Thanks for a great video 👍🏻
I call it the wolverine claw off the tee! 3 months ago, I dropped the 1998 MP14, 2Iron configured with steel S300 shaft. The club was 'all stock' and in mint condition. I can rifle the Prov1 regularly to the range of 240-250y off the tee.
These HMB irons look superb, and on looks alone is a winner versus other brands. This 2-iron is really performing well. I have something similar - 19 1/2 degree Cobra F9 4-iron (also hollow head, two tungsten inserts) that has pretty much replaced my 19* hybrid. The hybrid is not as accurate, and I just find it easier to be consistent with an iron. I think that HMB and other brands like it will be taking the hybrids out of many bags.
pjschmoll tried the U500, U510 and MP 20 HMB today and MP20 HMB everyday. u510 very easy to hit from the deck and a higher flight that the two others. But the noise😳......the U510 is incredibly noisy/loud. U500 looks better than the U520 and sounds a little better but the MP20 is much much better. All easy to hit, flight U500 and MP20 HMB lower, more piercing that the U510 but MP20 HMB looks best, feels softer, better feedback and less noise. Ordered one today 😃
@@50511017 I ran into some financial issue and actually sold it when covid hit back in march. But I would buy again. Looks amazing behind the ball. Super hot off the face when I would tee it up. Didnt actually play it off the turf tho
I looked up some specs for blades from the 70s. The 2 iron was 21 degrees so a one iron would have been about 18 degrees. So that’s pretty impressive ball striking!
Tried U510, U500 and MP 20 HMB and the Mizuno outperformed the two others for me. All easy to hit from the tee and the deck but MP20 HMB had the best look, feels softer, great feedback and trajectory. The U510 went very high and was unbelievable loud/noisy. Ordered one today 👍🏽 update: sadly the order was cancelled because the iron couldn’t be delivered with the same shaft I have in my MP18 blades the project X LZ tour graphite......cannot play steel anymore because of my elbow/joints. Maybe recoil or otherwise U500 with the smoke shaft.
Nice one Michael. I switched my 3 & 4 irons from the Mizuno MP18 MMC Hi-Fli’s to Titleist TMB’s as I found the Mizuno’s weren’t very forgiving (compared to the earlier Hi-Fli’s). The TMB’s have been great, but I’d love to go back to Mizuno so I’m hoping the new MP20 HMB’s will do the job. I could then see my blending MP20 HMBs 3-5 (6?) iron with the MP20 blades 7-PW. Would prefer not to also blend MP20 MMC’s (6-7 iron?) as I prefer the blended look of the blades and HMB’s ... though the MMC’s would probably perform better in the mid irons.
I have an MP 18 Fli Hi 3-iron. I can no longer get a 2-iron to match so I would definitely consider an MP 20 instead. As some others have suggested, a comparison would be nice.
Hi Michael, are you using the same shaft in the 2i as the rest of your irons? I'm considering this club but not sure if I should get fitted separately for it. I play JPX 919 Tour irons, with a KBS Tour 90 in Regular. Thanks
Another great review. I bought a power spec Ping i500 3 iron(17 deg) last year for similar use as in your review. Have a set of JPX 919 forged, very tempting to have a test of this beautiful beast.
Think I might get this in a 3 iron. 2 iron at 16 degrees is too close to my 3 wood. 3 iron at 19 degrees is perfect in my bag, since I don’t have a 5 wood and it blends into my mp57 4 iron. Great looking club!
I use mph5 2i-4i & mp25 5i-pw Project X 5.0 rifle steel. Is this mp20 hmb similar to the Mph5's? I don't really like the Mph5's but I need the thicker sole for launch & forgiveness in my 2i & 3i. How much better is the Mp20 hmb than the Mph5's?
Pause this video at 6:33 And this is the video you did of the p790 udi a year or so ago. You'll see that despite having higher ball speed on this newer club, your distances seem to be down. I had the G410 crossover (its more of a players iron) @ 17 degrees but I found it a lot less forgiving than my G400 which I had bent down to 17 degrees. I'm looking for someone with the forgiveness of the G400 crossover, with a lower launch and spin, I was hoping this was it, but I don't want to to be short. Quite fancying the U510 1 iron, please get us some data mike, and preferably compare it against he old p790 udi and whatever else you have.
I just bought a 2iron HMB with HZRDUS Smoke Black 100 Gram 6.5 Shaft. Very excited to try it out. It might just replace my 3 wood (15 deg), if all goes well. Do you think I should carry a 13 deg 3 wood, 16 deg 2 iron, and a 19 deg hybrid? I currently carry 3 wedges, 52, 56, and 60 and since I use all three regularly, it will be a toss between the 2 iron and the 19 deg hybrid based on the course conditions. Let's see but I am excited none the less. My driver swing speed is around 110.
I would have loved one as I play the Mizuno MP32's but no left hand version so I had to go for the sirxion. 2 iron which is brilliant as well oh well great review as usually 👍🏌🏻
Mr. Newton- A fun review and I look forward to the tests of the other lofts you mentioned. As a comparison, how do you find this club compares with a 16 degree wood in accuracy and distance? Thanks, Bob
Gee it's awfully strong. Not surprised, 16 is common for a 2 iron these days. You are meant to bend them 2 degrees weak for blending with the MBs. I probably will get the 3 iron at 19, and either a 4/5 iron 2 degrees weak, or a 5 iron at stock (playing as a 4.5 iron). Yes big gap but for the in between length, I can cut the 3.
Looks like the Srixon ZU45/ ZU85 that I bought and sold pretty quickly as I didnt like it's big arse sticking out at the back. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
RiverRuns NC - No, Michael is tall so would probably address the ball with higher hands, needing a more upright club. 2° upright I’m sure would allow Micheal to deliver the club at the right lie during impact, meaning no toe/heel digging.
Obviously, you can respond to my reply in 2 minutes so you can access the net. Now take one minute to go to Mizuno's site, and get the shaft information (of which there are several including graphite choices), instead of wanting to be bottle fed.
Since you asked, I will say. It is the type of question that one can research in ONE minute, so I wonder why would you want to wait for a reply that frankly is ignored often by reviewers because one can get the answer so easily. Michael being a nice guy responded when it is usually not because of the above. Secondly, just knowing if graphite is available is not the end. Since there is more than one, the question of which is appropriate for your swing is still unresolved - and can only be answered with more research and personal testing. But maybe you want to ask Michael about this too.
It all depends on you and your swing, confidence and so forth. But in general a 2 iron can be great from the tee and not from fairway.... if you compare with a 3 wood

Mizuno has hit a magic spot with these Irons. This set will be in my bag this Spring.
Wow, what a club. Nice review. I don't even play a 2 iron and I wanna buy one.

Any thoughts on how this compares to the MP-18 Fli-Hi 2 iron?

That looks gorgeous. Maybe compare it to the Titleist u500?

Great review. I will be adding a 2 iron to my bag.
that first stinger with 259 yard distance made by jaw drop and I ordered the 2 iron with x stiff from my local store immediately afterwards
Seen many videos of Tiger playing that exact shot with a slight draw or fade, got to be a winner on the par 5s
Just traded in some old clubs for this 2 iron and cant wait to take it out onto the range for some practice
How is it?
@@50511017 I ran into some financial issue and actually sold it when covid hit back in march. But I would buy again. Looks amazing behind the ball. Super hot off the face when I would tee it up. Didnt actually play it off the turf tho

Sounds like u just got a new 2 iron haha. Great work mate 👍
I have mine. Great feeling iron but do not like UST shaft. Will be reshafting with Graphite Design Tour AD-85 Utility Driving Iron Shaft for bombs.
Tried U510, U500 and MP 20 HMB and the Mizuno outperformed the two others for me. All easy to hit from the tee and the deck but MP20 HMB had the best look, feels softer, great feedback and trajectory. The U510 went very high and was unbelievable loud/noisy. Ordered one today 👍🏽

The video led to me buying my first even 2 iron. Wow, amazing club. Love it. Now looking to get a full set in place of 919f
Did you get it w a steel or Graphite shaft?
I just got mine 5 days ago and got a chance to swing it. It was a 7 week wait, but my lord is this a nice club.
I need one of these to add to my 221 set

Was looking at the Callaway UT but now I will have to try the HMB. Thank you for the content.

Remember you’ve got the shaft length to take into account from your 3 wood to the 2 iron. The lofts may seem close but 2 iron shorter shaft 👍

Swinging it lovely today Michael
Great video! That club is a must have...
Great review ... I have to ask how do you think this stacks up to the ping i500 (power spec) long iron ....
Nice. I see a lot of pros using graphite shafts in 2 irons and driving irons, can you review some?
Amazing review 😉 can you do this vs the Srixon ZU85 2 iron?
What are your overall thoughts on the S taper shaft? Anything you would compare it to?
I have one in a dynamic x100 shaft. Great club

I now pronounce you man and 2 iron
Great looking club
2:35 haven’t heard anyone says ‘I’m chuffed to bits’ in years
Looks good - could you do a comparison between this one and the Titleist TMB 2 iron (not the u500)
They are gorgeous

Could be a video coming testing just that 👍
That is the same shaft I got fitted for on the dna. Got 5 iron hmb and 6-pw Mb. Not sure this shaft would work for me in 2 iron though.
Gee it's awfully strong. Not surprised, 16 is common for a 2 iron these days. You are meant to bend them 2 degrees weak for blending with the MBs. 3:20 *** positive crack ***
how would you compare feel to the PXG gen 2 driving iron?
What shaft are you gaming in it Mike
Looks like the Srixon ZU45/ ZU85 that I bought and sold pretty quickly as I didnt like it's big arse sticking out at the back. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Those stingers at the end were beautiful though 😍
I had a U45, this is more compact and less offset than the Srixon and not quite as much ass sticking out! 👍
Would use this type of club out of the semi-rough Mike? 2nd shot into Par 5’s etc
if the lie is decent then yes, if not then a hybrid would be better option
Nice review Michael.
2° upright... would that not make your shots draw or pull more often?
RiverRuns NC - No, Michael is tall so would probably address the ball with higher hands, needing a more upright club. 2° upright I’m sure would allow Micheal to deliver the club at the right lie during impact, meaning no toe/heel digging.
The MP18 fli hi was not a great club but sounds like Mizuno have put that right big time
Phil West that’s an opinion. I bag an MP-18 fli hi 3 iron and it’s magical.
Just picked up a second generation P790 UDI, maybe I should have waited 😕
I just might have to pick that one up!
Would be good to see another full-on driving iron comparison
Hi mate
What if any are the graphite shaft options with these please ?
All of the custom shafts are shown on Mizuno's web site. Do you want Michael to do your research for you?
Chester wasn’t talking to you
Obviously, you can respond to my reply in 2 minutes so you can access the net. Now take one minute to go to Mizuno's site, and get the shaft information (of which there are several including graphite choices), instead of wanting to be bottle fed.
Chester why does it concern you ?
I was asking Michael. Who has been kind enough to respond
Since you asked, I will say. It is the type of question that one can research in ONE minute, so I wonder why would you want to wait for a reply that frankly is ignored often by reviewers because one can get the answer so easily. I'm in love with the new MP20. Waiting for my new Pw-4 set of MP20 HMB...the doubt now...Better 2 iron or 3 wood?🤔
What kind of shaft are using for this driving iron?
KBS Tour 130 X
With the 2 iron hmb being 16, the 3 iron is 19, and the mb 3 iron is 21. Seems a bit strong to add one at the end of the set for mb users???
mb 3 iron is 18, it goes 46-42-38-34-30-26-22-18
@@habs7646 sorry, but it's not.
Better than UDI?
Can i buy your swing ? Would you take the 2 irons over a 3 woods ?
It all depends on you and your swing, confidence and so forth. But in general a 2 iron can be great from the tee and not from fairway.... if you compare with a 3 wood
No glove?
Looks like you’ve found your new 2 iron.
Video idea: hollow 2 iron battle... HMB vs P790 vs TMP vs i500 vs (insert whoever may sponosor the video and send you a free 2 iron)
It would’ve been great if Mizuno had included a 2 iron in the mp 20 mb model. Not a big fan of that chunky look of the hmb.
Only tiger plays a 2 iron blade.. why would they make one?
What shaft are you using
KBS Tour 130 X
unreal that mizuno has not made this in left handed. sells would JUMP in the roof
u clickbaitin sumnabich :) great review but keeping mp18s in my bag
Price?
£180
Still in your bag?
Yes
Do a comparison with the new taylormade udi
Money taper. not S taper.
Hey, I get to say “first”
It’s tag lines like this that give golf on RUclips a bad name STOP DOING IT
