@@jerrylee7866 Asian in USA is saved for for anyone that looks remotely chinese. Based on appearance of the thumbnail, at least two guys look Indian. When they were playing frisbee it looked like there were at least two south asian kids if they are not Indians.

Sadly not in the IMO curriculum. Olympiad questions are designed to require no knowledge of higher mathematics but still be nutritiously hard.

Well they arent just some random students, they are like top elite students who are both capable and very interested in math, so yeah it may not represent like trully 100%, but we can at least get a picture like about how the country's level of math as you said

Actually it kinda does... More the number of students preparing for maths Olympiads, better the final team will be. Better the final team, more the medals.

K C we don't employ students specifically to train for IMO , unlike other countries who do
We don't give any importance to IMO. Our syllabus is very complex and completely advanced having a strong fundamental in calculus and co ordinate geometry.
If it was complex and advance, then it should follow that Indians would rank highly in IMO (which was not the case since many other countries produced smarter students who actually won medals instead of a participation award).
Meshari Alhumayyed it's because of our different approach and the fact that we give no importance to IMO or pure math. I know a few people who are capable of solving and IMO geometry sum or algebra sum, but missed their chance. We also get insufficient training at our camps, which highlights the poor performance of india.

These olympiad are extremely bad, it wil hamper creativity... Theres a reason cambridge tripos was banned... Most of these mathletes will just become coaches at the end
I completely disagree. These olympiads propose problems that require EXTREMELY creative and non-trivial solutions. You’re really left wondering: “how could have anyone come up with this?” These contests can help develop creative problem-solving in this way. The Cambridge Mathematical Tripos is just a Maths degree, a hard one at that. The problems are different, the material is different, the fields of study are different… I personally don’t see the relation. You are right in saying that many ex-olympics end up coaching newer generations. Again, where’s the harm in that? These competitions are nothing but valuable. Plus, many of the greatest mathematicians of recent times have participated in these events, and as Terence Tao said, they cherish those moments of their life fondly.
“American Math athletes” and the only one that is not of Asian origins is holding back the rest of the team. 😂
