Anyweather Never ever Yeah well, drinking one beer in the sauna or after it increases a feeling of relaxation. And the thing with the sausages, you can easily warm some food for yourself before you go to bed.
I would love to experience the Finnish sauna. I read that the experience is really good for your heart and blood circulation. I've been saving my money so I can go to magical Finland 💙
For that you need to visit the Nakkikioski diner, and ask some Finns to teach you what to say to receive the treatment. And as Finnjävel mentioned, next day you will feel really beaten.
Some Finns go naked into sauna? No, all Finns do. Except for a RUclips video. And you're so right, you need to go to smaller towns or country, Helsinki is just another urban city u see anywhere. Summer time Helsinki is half-empty, because everyone who can, leaves it and returns to their roots outside of the city. In Finland you need to get to the nature.
You both are cool! I love Finn's they are supportive and brainy. I never been in Finland but worked for one of client there. Love from India keep posting!
This is far from my own experience while staying with friends in rural Finland. For them, the Sauna is where you bathe yourself clean too. Their Sauna is equipped with buckets of cold and hot water, which you pour over yourself in between exfoliating yourself with sponges or washcloths lathered with bathing gel. No shower will clean you deeper than this method. I found this to be very therapeutic also. No matter how stressful my day has been, when I end it with the kind of sauna experience described above, it washed away any stress or anxiety I brought with me into the sauna.
I'm so happy you got Anni and Lauri as your sauna hosts! ❤ I've never visited Löyly in Helsinki but it looks like a cool place. You're so brave to take a dip in the freezing cold sea water, Josh! I think I couldn't have done that! 😀 Even the Finnish lakes in the summer are usually too cold for me, lol! I love sauna though. 👌 Lotta/Lanttimatkat
We were so happy they had us and showed us the true Finish way. :) I wimped out on the cold but don't feel bad after hearing a true Finn would do it either. -Ash
To be honest, I have, maybe projectively, detected as much enthusiasm as some embarassmente or a little apprehension before entering the first sauna. Anyway these videos of yours have an element of spontaneousness and niceness that make it very attractive to see and charismatic for ( re- ) commendation. No other people have shown so much positive reality of Finland with so much heart, soul and smile. You have gotten the best of Finnish people in a way that is very inviting to go there. Thanks a lot. You are great indeed.
I don't think Ashley was as fond of the sauna as Josh, but it was funny to see both of them jumping in the cold water. I'm finding these Finland vlogs very informative, it's one country I've always wanted to visit (and it makes me think of the Monty Python Finland song) :-)
We are loving it here and I think it shows through our videos. :) Josh was a bigger fan of the saunas for sure. haha But I'm glad I got the experience. -Ash
I know Monty Python but never knew about the song. Had to listen... I wouldn't say we have "lofty mountains" although maybe some in the upper north but other than that it was fine.
so do you too just look at each other in awe sometimes...for what you are experiencing? Loved the fortress and Joshie's elbow pads! be safe as always! xo
I wholeheartedly agree about your opinion of the countryside. I live in Helsinki nowadays, but I spent my childhood in northern Finland (close to Lapland, in a picturesque farm, surrounded by a breathtaking landscape) and I miss it so, so dearly. I swear, one day I'm gonna move back there - back to my roots :)
Awesome to see how you left Helsinki for sauna and did found a real sauna! Seriously every single home and mökki in Finland has one (in a block not all apartments do though) and many have two: one inside the house and one outside. In Finland people LOVE it and do go to sauna often :D
Lol as a Finn it's so normal and no-brainer be naked in front of strangers in totally non-sexual way, but for others it requires some courage. Get more in touch with you natural uniform! (which is naked) There is nothing to be ashamed of. Also at sauna get-togethers (or whatever you wanna call it, we just call it "going to the sauna" or "saunominen") it's not unusual to just have sauna (going in and out, dipping in the lake or just cooling of etc.) for several hours (usually max 2-3 hours) and just have a good time of relaxation for the sake of it and casually drink cold beer (and ofc some water in between) for the whole time (you can even throw little bit of beer on the rocks of the kiuas and and have a sensational scent of barley for a short moment) It's totally a different kind of social gathering than just going to a bar or drinking with you clothes on doing something else. Also the price of it is usually just the price you pay for the amount of beer at the store. I love saunominen. I warm-up my electric kiuas several times a week. It's heavenly especially when you put it on and go do any kind of sport activity, and when you're done you can go straight to the heated sauna (obviously after a good showering) Sauna is best enjoyed when you don't try to think why you enjoy it. So shut up your mind and throw some löyly!
NaWais total nudity is the standard in norway too. But we call it badstu. Badstu would be hillarious for english people as transelates directly to bathlivingroom .
Sauna is (should be) a very relaxing, enjoyable experience. Understandably it can take time before you get used to the sensations of löyly if you are new to it, and to get into the rhythm that feels best. If you want to learn more about it check out Sauna Tribe on Facebook.
I so miss sauna (i live and study in the netherlands atm). Pro tip for sauna, the most heat and steam are in the corners and if you want to avoid the "heat wave" after throwing water on "kiuas" you dont want to sit in the corner ;)
If the water feels too cold to go inside then you weren't in the sauna long enough. It's often good not to throw too much "löyly" right away but rather wait until you start to sweat without the steam. Then you are actually "warm from the inside". If you are properly warm, jumping into ice cold water(in the winter people drill holes through ice for jumping into after sauna) is the best feeling ever and you can stay there for minute or two without feeling even a bit cold ;)
I just found your channel and I like watching your videos, definitely keeping up with you guys in the future. Especially I really loved your videos from Finland! Hope you enjoyed Helsinki, it is one of the most beautiful cities in the world! :)
+Nelli thanks Nelli! 🤗 I'm glad you enjoyed. We like sharing videos from all over the world so it's nice when someone finds us because of a video about their country! Welcome!
I feel you on the heat Ashley. Even when I was a preteen I couldn't do hot baths or jacuzzi's etc and I tried a sauna once and walked out so fast. I much prefer a tepid shower too, w/Lupus your skin can turn into a big old rashy flare up if you spend more than 5-10 mins in hot water or steam. OMG jumping into the ocean after must have felt so good!
5:28 - Believe it or not, that's actually supposed to happen. Your outer "dirty" layer of skin become soft and you can easily scrub it off. That's how a lot of people clean themselves in a sauna.
We had an awesome sauna at my old folkhögskola (best translation'd be swedish hogwarts school for adults). It had the text "En dag utan bastu är en förlorad dag" written on it, witch means "a day without sauna is a day lost". Truer words have never been spoken!
Oh, one other thing I though after watching this... I have heard that in Souther Europe it is quite common for people to wrap towels around their bodies when they go to "sauna". If that is true, I think it is quite dangerous as in higher temperatures the towel is actually preventing your body from breathing and also the steam from forming water droplets on your body that would normally cool the body down ... In other words you are in risk of boiling yourself (or at least so I have been told). Then again from what I have heard and read, the public "saunas" in Souther Europe usually are heated to such low temperatures that most finns would consider them being freezing.
Yeah believe me when I say southern European saunas are absolutely nothing in terms of heat compared to the Finnish saunas. In Finland the temperature can feel brutal for newcomers because we heat it much higher than the rest of the world.
yea i dont think they heat the saunas as hot as in finland, plus i dont think many spend so much time in them in southern europe (since theyre mainly found in spas and hotels etc.) so if they do wrap themselves in a towel, it wont be that dangerous.
This looked like fun..I do like saunas. There's a dry sauna at my gym--I go in every day after my workout. I would like to try the cold dip after the hot sauna. Saunas are good for your thyroid and for detoxing.
*Omg at **6:03** watch Josh, i love his face expression. He is smiling on Ash sauna experience, he knew in reality Ash was not happy from ppl inside sauna.. LOL* 😂 😂
I remember when we went to leirikoulu (I don’t know what it is in English) with our class’s for like 2-3 days and we went to the sauna and one of our class mates just got up and poured the hole bucket of water into the kiuas it was like almost 100 degrees😂
Haha that was so cool! Well, actually it was hot, LOL! :p It brings back memories, as I lived for some 7 years in Rovaniemi. Josh certainly has the right idea about it :) And hey, it was so cool to see 'Beyond the press' as well! I've actually been following them for quite some time too with their crazy stunts :)
Great, you guys had your "Finnish christening" 😏👍 At least it's very unique experience. I have my own sauna in my city apartment and I enjoy it mostly on fall and winter time when it's freezing cold outside. It keeps the flu away from you.
Haha I can understand it might be a bit weird to go to a public sauna, a bunch of strangers in a hot room and no one hardly talks anything :D People usually shower themselves before sauna so it was perfectly okay to go with a wet hair. Public saunas tend to have lower temperatures but when you go to your own sauna many people like to throw "löyly" as much as they can take :D This was first video I've watched from you guys, you seem like very lovely people!
You become much cleaner in sauna than in shower, because you get your skin hot and sweat too, then dirt comes off way better. Thats why your skin feels better afterwards. Specially after some good hot-cold-hot-cold treatment. I own a sauna and I think shower is like "quick shave with machine" is in beard shaving, and using sauna is what you have to do some times to really get clean its like using razorblade. Btw you should always go to Sauna naked but in every video they have clothes, I get why, I would too if I was in video, but just for u 2 know normally its naked thing to do. I had to recommend some lakeside sauna to tourist I would recommend Pyhäjärvi "st. like" area. Its water is so clean that you can see your toes when youre neck down in water and basically you could drink it. Theres also some more very clean lakes in Lapland area, they're even more clean probably, never been myself there though. I prefer swiming in lake over sea because there is no wind and no salt.
Yeah you a supposed to relax in a sauna, so that could be the reason why the people in there where quiet. Although it's not prohibited to talk when you are in a sauna, but if it's a public one you should respect other sauna goers an not make noise. Aaand if it get's too hot you can always hunch down, that helps a little bit if you aren't ready to leave yeat. :) Washing before going to sauna is common in public saunas. But many traditional saunas still have the washing area combined with the steam room. It's nice you liked your visit in Finland, hope you come a again in the future! :) P.S. There really is not more relaxed, renewed and calm feeling in the world, than after a lake side sauna and swim in the summer.
You go to sauna for the relaxed, clean feeling afterwards. It's important to "punish" yourself with heat and then cool down again. This way all the crap from your body and skin gets removed. There's no better feeling than taking sauna in mid summer and have a cold beer while cooling off on the terrass edit: I heard this saying there are no generals in sauna. That pretty much sums it up. There are no ranks, no genders, just people. You forget about these things and just relax and mingle
So interesting that it was safer for women to give birth in the sauna! But man, I just cannot help but imagine how hard cooking and pushing at the same time must be! :p
V-155 YM-135 You do realise that electricity wasn't exactly common say 100 years ago? So nothing was "on". But obviously the sauna had to be heated unless the weather was very warm.
When Finns moved to Americas the first thing they build was sauna, everything else was build around that. Enough said I hope. EDIT: first Finnish UN soldiers build the first saunas in many places........
Wat Away - You ARE suppose to wet the hair going into the sauna so your head doesn't get too hot! You can also go take a quick shower again and go back into the sauna. You shouldn't be on the highest bench in the sauna if you can't tolerate the hotness that good, sit on one of the lower seats. Also, you are suppose to break into sweat becauase it naturally cleans out such and dead skin from your body that you wash off when done in the sauna.
Thanks for visiting! We had very nice sauna evening. :)
-Anni & Lauri
+Beyond the press You Two are amazing and we loved our time with you. Thank you so much! -Ash
Nice to see Nelli make a special guest appearance
I have actually seen that video referred to (melting red hot metal into the lake).
Finland , never been there but it looks beautiful to me.
Cheers Mike from The Netherlands.
laurilla päheet speedot..
Kids often sit on the bottom shelves, they move up when they get older. And it is ok to leave the sauna if it gets too hot for you, unless you were the one throwing the water to the kiuas. If you throw the water you take the heat, that's the rule.
well most ten years old are in the top shelves
prowokator "If you throw the water you take the heat, that's the rule." Never heard anyone saying it in loud, indeed its an unwritten rule.
Sampo Karvonen by kid he meant like younger than 6
Yeah, first time in a Finnish sauna can be a bit jarring. As a Finn, you're conditioned into it gradually. Heat rises, so the lower you sit, the cooler it is.
Once you do get used to it... Bliss.
Going to sleep after sauna. It is feels like you have actually slept for the first time in your life, every night up to that point has been like you've been just resting your eyes.
Oh man we were so busy that day. Now I wish we had time for a nap. HAHA -Ash
That sounds great! I have bad insomnia and would love to experience the sauna. I need a good sleep
This is true.
We had an American exchange student in my small town high school in Finland, we 17y old guys were warned by concerned parents that he probably wasn't familiar with the sauna culture nor public nudity... But it didn't take long he joined us at the summer house and there he was the first to run butt naked from the sauna to the lake and back. Some Finnish beer helped perhaps :)
How funny. I think every man from any culture looks for opportunities to strip down haha -Ash
I'm sure you learned on your trip, that in Finland nudity is not really a big deal. It's quite natural. Having said that, these days many Finns don't really like to be nude anywhere. Especially in mixed gender situations.
This has to be the best possible meeting ever existed on RUclips. I can't imagine a better one. WayAway and Hydraulic Press Channel (What daaaa???) I'm so excited :D
Don't mind the silence, Finnish people don't talk to strangers without reason (not even small talk), because it's considered rude to bother other people without a reason. Sauna is a place of both literal and spiritual cleansing, so people tend to just sit there in the quiet and think about whatever problems they have, unless you're going to a sauna with your close friends, _then_ it's usually either a deep conversation or a drunk one.
SerWarden it is excactly the same here in norway😀.
+William Vangen Yeah, well Finland and Norway are extremely similar. I think Finland is culturally closer to Norway than it is even to Sweden (and we used to be Swedes). Oh wow thats very interesting. Ive been learning alot about Finland and trying to learn the language so when I go I'll be ok.

I have read that the Finnish sauna experience is great for your heart and blood circulation. The education system is one of the best! I have friends who are going bankrupt trying to pay off thier student loans. You go broke trying to pay. It pissed me off. Kids get accepted to a good University but cant afford it so they take out student loans. They also don't let you default either it's like the IRS. Anyhow I can't wait till I go to Finland
Its also very common to drink beer in the sauna and wrap sausages in foil and grill them on the rocks :D

@@smartart3097 well come in finland in sauna they get drunk xd
@@lillylazer429 Come experience it, its amazing.
I love how you still seem happy / positive even when you don't like something :)
You skin becomes smooth after sauna, because you sweat your pours empty of dirt and wash them too.
So your skin is clean to its roots.
I don't suppose you also tried the traditional Finnish selkäsauna?
It truly gives you like a clarity and you feel sore the next day, it's great.

Basic function of sauna: CLEAN YOU.
Sweat, sweat takes off the filth and dead skin, pour bucket of water on yourself to wash away the sweat. CLEAN.

The sauna couldn't have been that hot since they were still talking so calmly in there.
Don't worry, it's ok to get your hair wet before going into the sauna.
Exactly! Some people prefer taking a shower before sauna, some don't. Everyone has their own preference.
Actually you have to wash yourself before you go to sauna. You don't go there dirty.
Dry hair gets hot real fast. :7
It's better for your hair to keep it dry.

I love you Ash! Keep your great rewiews!

there are 2,2 million saunas in finland, and 5,4 million people, crazy
Some say it's over three millions, but yeah, more saunas than cars.

In Germany, for example, pouring water on kiuas is forbidden.
If it is sähkökiuas (electric kiuas) you can throw water into it... Assuming that the kiuas is installed properly and has no faults.
Peeing on kiuas in considered a rude act. Some people have done it, smaller kids and maybe some more grown ups too if drunk enough.
8:02 It's Nellie, the Beyond the Press Cat!!!!!!
The cutest cat ever. Loves the camera no wonder she's famous. -Ash
Hi guys, what kind of drone you have ?
We us the DJI Mavic.
Great video as always!
Ashley you'RE so beautiful Josh must be happy to have own you!
I'm watching for your flogs from Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 keep up and traval more 😄👍🏼
This looked like fun..I do like saunas. There's a dry sauna at my gym--I go in every day after my workout. I would like to try the cold dip after the hot sauna. Saunas are good for your thyroid and for detoxing.
They don't do anything to the thyroid and are not "detoxing".
*Omg at **6:03** watch Josh, i love his face expression. He is smiling on Ash sauna experience, he knew in reality Ash was not happy from ppl inside sauna.. LOL* 😂 😂
Josh, you're the man... Even i won't go to swim in autumn =)
Great video again! :D
You two are adorable! I love your videos...if you visit Melbourne Australia come & say G'day! 🇦🇺
Are you guys planning to go to Latvia?
Ah ton miehen rallienglanti!

I remember when we went to leirikoulu (I don’t know what it is in English) with our class’s for like 2-3 days and we went to the sauna and one of our class mates just got up and poured the hole bucket of water into the kiuas it was like almost 100 degrees😂

14:48 "One... three... two... three!" Yes, we Finns are well educated
XD
Lol that is soooo funny about the oven comment!! 😂😂
Haha that was so cool! Well, actually it was hot, LOL! :p
It brings back memories, as I lived for some 7 years in Rovaniemi. Josh certainly has the right idea about it :)
And hey, it was so cool to see 'Beyond the press' as well!
I love you maria
Plz reply
Such fun vlog.I laughed a lot 😅
Beautiful👍
Haha I can understand it might be a bit weird to go to a public sauna, a bunch of strangers in a hot room and no one hardly talks anything :D People usually shower themselves before sauna so it was perfectly okay to go with a wet hair. Public saunas tend to have lower temperatures but when you go to your own sauna many people like to throw "löyly" as much as they can take :D This was first video I've watched from you guys, you seem like very lovely people!
When "that guy" enters and throws a whole bunch of water on the stove, most Finns would walk out too after a while. :D
great video 💖
Im watching this just before going to sauna.
Did you sit on the top stair? Hard core -Ash
Thats so cool! Thanks for all the tips! And yes, I've heard that it's normal to be naked, but for videos on RUclips clothes are required ;)
nice experience, life is good for you :))
We are truly blessed.:) Thanks for watching -Ash
"Most people repeat the sauce experience from hot to cold several times." @5:48

I now watch all 3 of their channels (Anni now has her own as well) after seeing this... :)
Ha! Going back to some older ones? Yeah these guys are great and I like watching Anni’s videos too
Sauna is best think in Finland
Joo paras ajatella Suomessa
Great tips:) Thank you so much for watching and helping us out! -Ash
You go to sauna for the relaxed, clean feeling afterwards. It's important to "punish" yourself with heat and then cool down again. This way all the crap from your body and skin gets removed. There's no better feeling than taking sauna in mid summer and have a cold beer while cooling off on the terrass
edit: I heard this saying there are no generals in sauna. That pretty much sums it up. There are no ranks, no genders, just people. You forget about these things and just relax and mingle
So interesting that it was safer for women to give birth in the sauna! But man, I just cannot help but imagine how hard cooking and pushing at the same time must be! :p
Well it was the most sterile place at the farm and there was also hot water available.
Well I don't think the sauna was on at the moment of delivery :)

You do realise that electricity wasn't exactly common say 100 years ago? So nothing was "on". But obviously the sauna had to be heated unless the weather was very warm.
I'm sure many a Finnish child was born during löyly. It is one of my first memories, and that is in the modern age...
When Finns moved to Americas the first thing they build was sauna, everything else was build around that. Enough said I hope.
EDIT: first Finnish UN soldiers build the first saunas in many places........
In lapland my great grandma had two saunas. First one in house, second one in barn. No, really, in barn!
In Indonesia we have outside-natural sauna
10:54 Sims 4 Special mod: playing lorry&uuni here: Let's Play hermits get a visit from inspector Way away and Company aaaaaand HERE WE GO!
I've never heard of this channel and I live in Finland :p
They are awesome...You're missing out. -Ash
Do you like Finland? Like if you do!
Very niceviews
But Ash your skin looked so nice and rosey.😎
12:50 nice save there Lauri.
If you can, you should roll in the snow after sauna and take it to a video.
+Valtteri Koponen ooh that would be very fun!
you is happy.
11:03 -> so calm and beautiful
