    great advice Kari! I don't grow peppers usually, but this is my first year with loads of them. So I will definitely keep an eye out for mine! We are also really hot here in Edmonton Canada - this week rocking a melting 37 degrees C (almost 100 F) so I hear you on the hot heat!

    My limited experience with blossom end rot came from watering, most soils have plenty of calcium. Have also noticed some varieties are more susceptible than others.
    Egg shells take a very long time to break down in soil, eggshells can even survive hot composting as well.
    Stopped purchasing soil amendments a couple years ago, now I concentrate on feeding the soil biology which ultimately feed our plants.
    I use a lot of home produced worm castings, have had it tested as a manure, off the charts with plant available calcium, potassium, phosphorous and trace minerals, plus all the amazing biology. I have not had any issues since switching to worm castings among other things.
    Perhaps a foliar treatment with a plant available calcium fertilizer could be of help.
    Hope you fix your peppers! Good Luck, and Stay Well!!!!

    • @AtHomeWithKari
      @AtHomeWithKari  3 месяца назад +1

      Wow! I have heard that worm castings were great but I have never seen the tests. We have a bunch in the soil but I think a more concentrated application would be even better. I would love to create a worm composting bin. I have grand plans and we have yet to get to that project. Since it helps with blossom end rot I may have to move it up on the list. Thank you so much for all your suggestions and help. I greatly appreciate it!

    • @brianseybert192
      @brianseybert192 3 месяца назад +1

      @@AtHomeWithKari The easiest worm bin ever is a large grow bag, load it up with leaves and compost and let em at it. One of the greatest pitfalls in raising worms is moisture control, grow bags drain, never a problem.
      Harvested almost 200 pounds of castings from 2,50 gal grow bag bins in the basement over the winter.
      Stay Well, good luck with the blossom end rot!

    Just a question? Do you have to have
    to remove all the affected peppers and harvest all of them early. When they bloom again do you think one application of the bone meal will solve the problems on the new bloo.s?

    • @AtHomeWithKari
      @AtHomeWithKari  3 месяца назад +1

      It would be best to harvest them when you notice the issue or before when they are younger. You can just cut the bad part off. The longer it sits more of the pepper goes bad. I am hoping one application works. I usually do this when I plant them and only use 1 tablespoon. I think the baby peppers and the new peppers will be just fine. After applying this we got 4 inches of rain so it should be good and soaked in. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

    overwatering followed by not regularly watering and too little watering. The Over watering washes away the nutrients and makes root rot, then the under watering stares and dries up the plants then we call it blossom end rot.

    • @AtHomeWithKari
      @AtHomeWithKari  3 месяца назад +2

      Yes I think the drought definitely added to the issue and possibly our very wet spring. There are some things we just can't protect them from without a greenhouse. Thank you for your comment and for watching. Have a wonderful weekend.
