Conduit Bending - Charting your Bender

- In this video I will educate you on the process the charting your bender. Which is basically laying out your bender with center of bend marks so that you can bend on center with any degree of bend you choose, but that is only one part of it. It is also the process of finding the gain of the bender you are using along with calculating the setback of it. Lastly you can also mark on the bender any degree you choose to place on the bender that is not on there already, for example a 15 degree bend mark isn't on any bender but is a good degree mark to have on your bender. Well it's very easy to figure out and place a mark for any degree mark that is not officially already on the bender. For the last part Im actually referring to hand benders because with any other bender it doesn't matter you are using a digital angle finder anyway. Every other part of charting your bender you can do on any bender you encounter. This process is very easy and very useful and one of the first things you should learn to do as a conduit bender.

Mel, that was excellent info and content, talk about dialing in your conduit benders and stepping up your game and skill set in your trade. Effort is to be commended.👍👍 Keep the content flowing Bro. BTW, thanks for the PM for the answer and explanation on this subject matter, earlier last week, it was spot on. Thanks again Bro. Late

Text book examples for charting your bender. Good Job Holmz!
Been watching your videos since the weekend after I discovered your channel.. I went through a 5 year apprenticeship and been a journeyman for 2 years... spent a lot of my time in industrial and some commercial so I'm the pipe runner on any job I land on.. I'm union but I've spent most of my time with the same company.. your videos are extremely interesting and helpful.. these are things that are only taught through old school journeyman and not all of them will take the time to teach this level of pipe running.. so glad I found this channel!! 💯💯💯💯💯
I'm glad you found it too. I've gotten to know you now. You're a regular. Thanks for watching
@@TheArtOfConduitBending Always brother!! Appreciate the knowledge for sure!! Any and everything you make videos about, I have used and will continue to use everyday!! Love the channel and always looking forward to your next video!! 🔥🔥🔥
This is exactly the kind of thing I've been doing as well. Glad to see someone else is customizing their bender and thinking it through. Thanks for teaching this; you bring up some things I hadn't thought of yet.
Asking any that can donate to support the channel would be greatly appreciated even $1 goes a long way. Would like new and better content coming out this year. Thanks again

Man good stuff I got the chance to work with an electrician when I first started last year and he used his measurements from center of bend to match his runs. It was only for a short while but know I understand it a bit more. This is great man ✊🏼
Thanks I really appreciate your comment
mel, you always struck me as a person that would install exposed conduit at your place of residence. glad that I'm wrong
Great content brother. Sorry if this is a dumb question but can you also mark your center of bends using the developed length and hook method as well?
Great video
Thanks for watching and most of all for the comment. I really appreciate it.

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG!!
I'm trying to chart my bender.
Just for practice I did a 45 degree bend but the center of the x mark didn't line up with the notch for center of 45*
Also I did a couple of bends at 30 degrees, the center of the x mark never lined up to the previous one that I marked on the bender.
All bending is on the floor. And the front of the hook is always marked. 1/2 inch Klein bender. Also I use a level to check its spot on. So idk.
Thank you for any advice. Much appreciated
Thanks for the video brother
Can you send me the link to the video that shows why we need and what we use these values...? Thanks

This video is so damn good.
Not only is it good. It's very important for you to learn this information, it will make your life easier when you learn about push thru bending.
Thank you sir 🫡
do you use this center bend for offsets or only for kicks?
You can use them for both if you want. But if you use it for offsets you need to realize that your offset will move closer to your obstruction which is good cause it makes your offset look more intentional and precise. But you need to try and bend a few scrap pieces with the arrow and then bend a few on center so you see the difference and you know about how much of a difference there is. Hope you understand what I've explained here. Thanks for the comment and most of all for taking the time to watch my videos.
What's wrong with just using the arrow?only thing I've needed center of bend for was for 3 pointers..
So for any given bend do you find the radius by dividing the angle bent by 2 and find the sin of that number and multiply by the chord?
NOt quite. chord/2 divided by sine of 90/2 = Radius. But there are easier ways to figure out radius of a 90. If you want to figure out radius of less than 90s i have that formula as well. you need to check my advanced conduit bending videos cause now your getting into the big boy league.
Also sorry i took so long to get back to you. you should have gotten at me on Discord with this question. Anyway next time.
Where did u get that shirt I want one
2 years ago on Facebook. I tried getting more but can't find it anymore. I bought 3 for that reason.
Yo mel, you mention parallel Kicks and if you bend them you need to 30 degree bend on center. I'm just wondering, will the bends not look good if I just bend them on the arrow ?
The won't be accurate. It'll take a minute to explain why. But I'll get back to you. I'm a Little busy.
I use arrow too..I'm wondering why center is used..always turned out good..I thought?
@@jamesedwards6201 The reason for using the center of the bend for calculated kicks is because of the formula used. You take the multiplier of the angle you plan to use for your kick and multiply it by your desired kick height and this gives you the distance from the back of the 90 to the center of your bend. If you use that same formula and bend it on the arrow, you will end up with less kick than you were aiming for because the center of the bend is actually further down the conduit from the arrow. That being said, I do sometimes use the arrow for bending kicks. But in order to do that and have it come out right you have to know the distance from the arrow mark to the center of your bend. On my 3/4 bender for example, the center of a 22.5 degree bend is 1 inch from the arrow mark. So if I take whatever number I get from the kick formula, mark it on the conduit and then move it forward 1 inch, I will get the right amount of kick when I bend it.
Afternoon Brother,
Can you do some bending with Wiremold 500,700 conduit raceways????
And can you do some bending with the hickey bender as well.
Thanks again Brother 👍🏿🇺🇲‼️
Ok so wiremold my brother i dont really work with. Ive used it once or twice on a job that the customer requested it. But its not something i really work with all the time. To me its quite simple. You dont have to bend it. They have prefab bends you have to buy. As far as the hickey ill see if i can get my hands on one to do a video. I used the hickey a lot in the beginning of my career.
Brother Mel ,
Wiremold can be bend with the Wiremold bender using box offsets, 3 & 4 bend saddles 90° bends.
@@stevenhall8860 lmao... wow. My brother I honestly never knew that. I just looked it up and I just saw so many different types of benders for wiremold. I'll have to get my hands on one and work out the formulas. TY for putting me on. this is something i definitely make some content on. thanks again. Give me some time on this.
Great info! Do you always bend on center?
Not always but when I need to I know how.
Brother we’re can I get that shirt
I got that shirt a while back on Facebook. Cant remember where. Ill try to find it and send you a 🔗.
Nice
Cool shirt
Thank you.. Actually got it on Facebook a couple years ago.
Ya lost me at wear your mask...
Lost me with the mask, sorry just my beliefs
Yeah I hear you. I understand.
Conduit Bending is truly one of the critical tasks in the electrical construction industry. Whether it's EMT, galvanized rigid steel conduit, or intermediate conduit, you'll need to bend it. Bends will be required as part of your installation.
