Primitive Seagrass Weaving & Sea Lion Encounter

- The sea provides an abundance of food and useful materials for primitive survival. Did you know that seagrass can be used to make cordage, mats and other items? The sea is also home to completely different creatures such as sea lions. I wonder what this sea lion was thinking when it saw me.

Watching these videos, it looks like wherever you are, that you're the only person in the world. As if you really are in a place where no humans have made contact. It feels serene and peaceful.
Humans have been almost everywhere but I look for places where I can be alone.
dude is the real life Ragnvaldr from Fear & Hunger
amazing
Life is never boring with Chad in our lives
Life is certainly not boring for me.
I wanna be like Chad when i grow up
I feel so stupid watching just a few seconds of this. Real skills and knowledge at play. I wish school was just following a man like you around and listening to what you have to teach about our surroundings.
It’s just a different way of thinking
Whether in the forest, mountains, desert or sea, our Chad is a Chad in all environments . 😃
This is genius. I would never thought that the seagrass could be used as alternative of cordage material. That's aslo cool small fact that there was shown the aprox. amount of time to dry the seagrass enough to still be strong, not enough to make it less durable. Thanks for that information.
I first learned of this at a museum that had a native seagrass mat on display. Years later while combing a rocky shore I saw the surfgrass and remembered the mat I saw in the museum and I started experimenting.
@@ChadZuberAdventures Oh man, if i had such a great memory... Yet, it is still impressive.
Cozy night, some snack, nothing to do tomorrow, YOUR VIDEO = CALM/PEACE ❤️

That sea lion sure was graceful in those under water shots. so beautiful ♥
They are incredibly graceful.
I love watching your videos! I learn so much. Thank you for making them! 🙌
Thank you for watching!
Simple and practical. Another example of real survival. 😀🖖👍
Heey Buddy how u doin, you look so crazy bud, where have u been Fella? Wanna try some sea weed japan or sumptin
I'm curious, do you ever visit your old hut? Is it still standing?
I visited it almost a year ago and it was still standing. It looks the same as when I left it.
quá hay chad bạn có thể sinh tồn trên rừng và dưới biển
I wonder if there is a rudimentary machine you could construct that could speed up the process in helping you make cordage...?
A rudimentary machine? I really don't know. I've thought about this at times but no good ideas have come to me.
@@ChadZuberAdventures If you're interested, I have found a demonstration of a simple medieval method of making rope/cordage using a simple construction of wood, consisting of a few sticks and a reel.
Yes, I'm interested!@@Jaymunnie You can send me links or whatever to chadzuber@hotmail.com
I know it would be a bad idea but even just watching the video I want to go swim with that Sea Lion. Probably get bit but it's so sweet looking. Maybe try and throw it the Coconut and play from a distance. My Grandpah threw a curious Dolphin a Conch shell from the boat once and it kept bringing it back for about an hour. It did the same thing as the Sea Lion, came up and kept staring at him. He threw the shell and a couple minutes later it brought it up and threw it in the boat. Then the games began until it got bored. Just another thought, where there are Sea Lions there are generally BIG sharks!
I've swam with sea lions many times. It is very rare that they attack a human. I think humans are more likely to attack another human. Like dolphin they can also be playful.
🔥🔥🔥Greetings, colleague🤝 You have the most versatile educational channel about life in the wild. You should also make clothes in which you shoot videos on a daily basis.👍👍👍
Yes, making clothes is a big project because of the large amount of material needed.
Another great video!!! Keep up the good work!!!
its so funny because i legit wait until the next time you upload because of how good the videos are omg!!! like i go back and go binge watch your old stuff just because its so entertaining.
I love to hear that. Thank you so much!
Sea lion: "are you filming? What type of camera is that? Am I in the shot?"
You are the star of the show.
@dopamine heey Buddy you know what you need, u need Boorger n cola cola n some Aligator mini, y'all ganna be fine
This was really awesome. Cheers, Chad!
Thanks!
A small wooden toggle would have worked well too. Seagrass smells so good too.
... this makes me melt back into all the time spent swimming in waves in the late afternoon, sometimes holding on to sea grass when i went under a wave a little late ~
My friend and i would swim around sunset time so we could see the sky colors from under water.. back then ( 80's ) our beach felt remote, wide open and all to ourselves in the early morning and evening. Sea grass ( surf grass to be sure ) is quite a dear plant ; a part of the beauty of that life when the swimming in the waves for hours each day ( as well as a level of intimacy with all the natural aspects of that place ) was business as usual well into my teens..
Always, the level of well being measured in terms of connection with place..
and that connection >> interacting with the life of the place..
Words don't suffice; which also >>> appreciation for your videos for no offensive 'noise' .. thankyou dearly.
🌿🌊☺️
Also >> for me, no peace greater than when making cordage. Weaving is truly a universal way of healing oneself.
gratitude for your videos.
What a beautiful memory. I can totally feel the experience through your words. I always love watching the pulse of the ocean as the waves pass over the reef creating the ebb and flow effect of the surf grass waving back and forth. Time seems to pass at half speed underwater. All movement is smooth flowing. The ocean environment is one that I’ve loved since childhood.
@@ChadZuberAdventures aww thanks for the equally enjoyable reply !
the world is wonderful.
would you be able to show us a video on your pot making, more specifically the sealing process that makes them able to hold water for cooking etc! as always loving the content :)
Cool Video Chad 👍👍👍
I might not be around as much, but I will give likes. My mama passed away December 15 in the morning from metastatic adenocarcinoma stage 4. She was doing so good too😭😭😭😭
No one cares about your life story.
😢
I'm very sorry to hear about the passing of your grandma. December 15 was my dad's birthday.
Chad, it was my mom
@@souldasherjoanie7517 I'm sorry, we often say mama for grandma and papa for grandfather. I'm sorry. A mother passing is very difficult. Time will heal.
Thank you, Chad! Each video is interesting and entertaining. Didn't know that one can use even the seagrass for making a rope!
It’s not very well known. I learned about it several years ago in a museum.

Love to watch your videos man , keep going
Good job dude!
Super super super ❤ amazing nature ❤
Did you use surfgrass or yucca to replace your broken hair tie, Chad?
Love your videos!
I used yucca fibers for the hair tie. Yucca is stronger.
Great video! I use seaweed liquid and fish emulsion in my organic gardens…. Great stuff!
I have used seaweed in compost piles before. The plants loved the soil!
That looked like it was a cold day at the seashore!
It was cool but not cold.
You had some really great shots in this, Chad. Very impressed. Keep up the great work and looking forward to the next one. I've been reaching out to Fowler too about you. Amos would be a fun collaboration as well.
The only collaboration that would work with my channel would be with Bear Grylls or Andrew Tate.

Crazy what you make out of nothing... love ending my day with your videos
Thanks!
Any particular reason why you’re weaving this grass with your fingers and not rolling it over your skin how I’ve seen you do before? Great video as always!
I can roll this material into cordage on my thigh but I chose to twist it with my fingers because I can make it tighter by twisting with the fingers. This material is a little spongy. It's very different from yucca fibers which are rigid and firm. When I roll surfgrass on my thigh the end product is softer and spongier.
Hello, Chad. Once again, thank you for another great video. The content is outstanding! Just out of curiosity, how much effort do you put into arranging your cameras? Also, how much time do you spend making a final video??
I spend a lot of time setting up the camera for each shot and also in editing. This video was shorter so it took only about eight hours to edit and upload. Shooting the video took parts of a few days. A lot of that time is simply hiking to the locations.
Awesome Thumbnail Chad
Actually it must be a bad thumbnail because the views on this video are very low.
Hi Chad, have you tried a primitive survival challenge in Hawai’i? The forests are so thick with plants (most are invasive). There are invasive giant African snails and boars which can be hunted and eaten for food. The wild chickens are not safe to eat however according to the locals. You would have to be careful of snare traps and the Amazonian centipede scolopendra but it would make an interesting challenge.
No I haven't considered Hawaii. I would have to look into the laws first and see if it would even be legally possible.
Thatt...better luck, u doing material from seagrass .mybe u need level more strong gear u doit💪💪💪💪🌿🌿🌿🙂😊
Those muscle bro 😮
Merry Christmas Chad

Where are you while making this video?
10 hours ago, how did I miss this?!
Hello Jesus, are yaa ganna save the date, Greeting from Europe😢😢
Oh yeah
What happens if you start making your cordage while it’s still wet?
The leaves will still shrink and the cordage will then be loose.
Any herb contains a lot of pulp and few cords. You need to stretch it like you do. Then, it is necessary to boil it in an ash solution for 1 hour. Comb out the pulp. Or put fresh yucca to rot for 2-3 weeks in a damp place . Then dry it. And tap out the pulp. Then the rope will be thin and strong. watch some videos on how to make a nettle rope.
Nettle is very different from seagrass. The techniques that apply to one plant do not necessarily apply to another.
Try coating the cord with a little wax or fat when twisting, braiding and weaving. For me this greatly increased the work and durability (nettle rope)
Yes, that would definitely improve the durability but I haven't collected any wild wax yet and I want to just use the materials I find.
Will this be a new survival series?
nice
Two questions: Learning to weave sea grass is definitely useful, but what function does a wrist band serve besides ornamentation?
Second, what geographic location was this filmed in?
Keep up with the vids and happy holidays, Chad
No real function at all. It’s just ornamental. I just wanted to show that seagrass can be used to weave into other items. I originally wanted to make a bath or mat but both those items would take many days to make. I didn’t have the time for that.
How do you make sure you get the same thickness of cordage? When I add more to keep it longer, I overlap it onto the stuff I’m weaving making the cordage thicker until the other material has ran out and I’m on the new material
This is with nettles where you don’t really have individual fibres where you can just keep adding 1
The thickness will vary slightly. It doesn’t need to be perfect.
Hey Chad ! You have manual skills! And what with Clay flor in yours hut ? You will do it or you delete this project?
There are soooooo many projects to do and sooooooo little time. I'm still making clay tiles for the floor. Now it's winter and too cold to make tiles so I have to wait until spring for that.
Thanks for answer. And respect that You read coments And respond. God bless You! Be strong and continue Yours chanel because its greate!
Can you tell us about shamanism? How did the native people practice this in the place where you are now?
I have no idea.

i watched all primitive technology channels vids. at ep 35 of ur prim tendencies playlist so far. u have inspired me to try this kind of thing for myself. originally i wanted to do it as a moral crusade since so many things we have r made unjustly. but morality is very complicated and often involves more than just u. if nothing else its a fascinating learning experience. @@ChadZuberAdventures

I've swam with sea lions many times. They generally keep a safe distance but are often very curious.

Do you ever get any tiny hairline cracks in your pottery
I sometimes get tiny hairline cracks in my pottery made at my hut. I used to get a lot of cracks with the clay I used at the first hut though.
