It's because of the arrangement. Notice how there's a cut and Brett Hinds is suddenly using the semi-hollow electric instead of the acoustic? That transition takes way too long to do live. Granted, they could always get another guy to do the acoustic section, or just do it on a clean electric.
Dear Mastodon, My name is Joshua. I'm a big fan from Southern Cal. Really diggin' on your new scene. That's why I hope you don't mind when I got your new demos for your new CD, I had to sing parts on them and send them to you as a tribute. I hope you're not mad about me also uploading them onto the Internet. But hell, it seems like you guys are so cool that you might dig something just like that. Sincerely, your fan, Joshua M. Homme
fuck yes thank you still rembering seeing you in hickory nc before your first ep came out dive called the wizard my friends and i and a couple other people less than 25 people long live mastodon in early 2000s wish i knew what happen to my blood mountain tour shirt got my megladon tourshirt still one of the best live bands in the buisness brent hines writing is simply put incredible and moving
Awesome video, dont know why the camera is focused on troy and bill playing rhythm acoustic for the whole duration of brent hinds’s solo though. Pretty annoying
This reminds me of watching that 1970 footage of the original Allman Brothers Band. The camera person doesn’t show the lead guitar fella when it’s most important
Love the video, but why is the camera focusing on everyone but Brent during his solo! They cut to him once for half a second? This is always the case with live cameras, I don't understand why they do it. Have the camera on the person soloing, for the WHOLE solo, that's the point of a fucking solo!
Yeah Float away Known so low You run away Desolate us Desolate all No love is lost You know we're weightless Climb Under my wing Climb Known so low You run away Desolate us Desolate all No love is lost You know we're weightless Climb Under my wing Climb Known so low You run away Desolate us Desolate all Grown so slow You run away Desolate us I'm sailing away
Brent is so fluent with the guitar, always amazed me. They're levels above any modern band
This is my favourite Mastodon song. It's a shame they don't do this song live more often.
Same here dude. I had goosebumps as I was watching it during the livestream. Especially not knowing what they were playing
I think that's the nicest guitar solo I've ever heard Hinds play. Awesome
The original is my favourite ever.
Epic solo ❤
Brann is trying his hardest not to bust into normal shredding mode and not to fall asleep at the same time lol
one of the greatest songs ever written
Been waiting a long time to hear this in a live setting.
Yep me too. Those ringing notes are so haunting

Hauntingly beautiful, they really did this one justice.

Note to the camera man--typically, when a guitarist is in the middle of a solo, you focus your camera on him, not away from him.
First time I've seen this live. Learnt the song years back, using a pick for the intro, didn't know it should be fingerstyle
He is hybrid picking! 😎 Now I wanna learn the song as well..
@@Ger360Masteri just learned the whole intro. It’s incredible
Indeed it is, my friend. And congrats!

amazing vocal performance by mr. hinds here
In addendum to my comments on Elephant Man, my Veteran/Veterinarian father passed away in 2013. My family got "small". God bless, "Y'all". 💕
I have to agree that this might be the best song ever made
Is this the first time live isn't it?
Yes. This and "Elephant Man" were first timers at the Aquarium.
@@JohnRoberts-ek3pp wow
I wish they would do this song more live and Jaguar God
When I have no one else to come to. I come to Mastodon

Brilliant every time 🤘

Don’t blame the camera man, there’s a camera pointed at him the whole time. Blame whoever edited this.
I had the same thought, but honestly enjoyed the atmospheric shots of jellyfish as well.
No way is finally here
How does a new guitar magically appear in his hands?

Does anyone know what effects they used on Brent's vocals? It's amazing
Leslie effect and delay

Wow
Love this song, but it's a shame ho much he overdid the vocal distortion in this performance.
