      I personally think the wii is a great investment if you homebrew it. I can download any gamecube game I want onto my usb stick and play it on my wii with a gamecube controller or a classic controller. Also its amazing how much classic titles you can get on your wii via emulating or injecting it into a wiiware title. Mario kart wii modded is free online play. And the best reason to buy a wii is Project M and Project M ex mods. People are still coming out with original movesets or porting characters over from the new smash games. Modding the wii for me was more than just a new breath of life it feels like an entirely different system for me now, I definitely recommend doing it.

      They did port a lot of Virtual Console games to the Wii U eShop, and if you have a Wii Shop account with those games already purchased on the vWii, they'll offer you a huge discount. It's actually really nice, you can get Mario 64 playable on the Gamepad for just $2 instead of $10 like normal. Not sure if this'll continue after the Wii Shop closes, however.

    • @bugnug5593

    • @FollowMe4REP
      @FollowMe4REP 6 лет назад +2

      @@bugnug5593 That's like saying that the NeoGeo games on the Virtual Console weren't NeoGeo games because you were playing them on the Wii. Or, perhaps more relevantly, that DSi games played on the 3DS aren't DSi games. Games exclusive to the service can kind of be considered to belong to their own platform.

    • @bugnug5593
      @bugnug5593 6 лет назад

      @@FollowMe4REP No, thats not what I'm saying. Virtual console means that you can play a games from an older system on a newer one. If your playing NeoGeo games on the wii there still NeoGeo games but its also a virtual console game because you are playing it on a new system. Ware means exclusive, so wii ware means games exclusive to the wii. If they were ported to the Wii U they would still be wii ware games but they wouldn't really be Ware anymore because the games are on more than just the wii. If your playing DSI ware games on the 3ds, there still DSI ware games but don't deserve to be called ware. If you go to the eshop on your 3ds you will see the section is called DSI ware, not just DSI. Anyways thanks for replying.

    Dude why didn't you install BootMii as Boot2? It's the safer thing to do! With that, you are *almost* certainly guaranteed to be able to save your wii no matter what you do to it! But your method, I am afraid, is rather unsafe! Installing WADs is very dangerous because if the file gets corrupt or the installation phase fails, you are left with a corrupted banner that will make your Wii's system menu CRASH the very moment it tries to load. It means that your Wii will blackscreen at boot right after the safety warning. And there you go, you just bricked your Wii! Priiloader will NOT save you from that, because it loads as an IOSs that depends on the System menu, so it fails to load if the menu crashes!
    Remember, ALWAYS install BootMii as Boot2 if you can, and A L W A Y S make a backup before anything!
    If your system does not support BootMii/Boot2, NEVER install a WAD you didn't test before using, for example, an emulator like Dolphin.
    That is why modding a wii following a video is bad: there are a lot of quirks and stuff to know before proceeding, you HAVE to understand what you're doing and get the full picture, even if it's as simple as copying files over an SD card. If you fail to do so, you get a BRICKED Wii!
    Sorry man, I don't want to hate on you, it's just how this stuff is: I HIGHLY recommend reading the "official" guides:
    wii.guide/
    arikadosblog.blogspot.com/2009/05/bootmii-understand-it-before-you.html?m=1
    wiibrew.org/wiki/BootMii
    wiibrew.org/wiki/Brick
    EDIT: As already said, I in no way think that this video is bad. I in fact think this video is excellent! But I strongly advice, as someone who actually modded many many Wiis, 3DSs, PS3s etc... To read all of there is to read on the topic before proceeding, as bannerbricks, trust me if you want, are more common that one might think!

    • @alessandroceloria
      @alessandroceloria 6 лет назад +3

      @Face in the Crowd We'll the procedure shown in the video is actually correct by itself, but before proceeding with the installation I'd suggest you to read the links I posted containing various information about what is bootmii, how could you get a brick and how to prevent them. Once you have a general idea of the working of this mod, then install the homebrew channel and bootmii. If you can't install BootMii/Boot2 because your Wii is not compatible, then install Priiloader, but beware that it will not be able to protect you against banner bricks. Always make a backup of the NAND of the wii after you completed the mod and before installing any WAD. Test the titles you intend to install using, for example, dolphin (there are various methods to test integrity of WADs before risking your actual beloved console, Google is your friend).

    • @IngwiePhoenix_nb
      @IngwiePhoenix_nb 6 лет назад +1

      Installing CIOS'es is really some unintuitive way if you "just want to get it done" :p I had to read on so many guides to get it right - and accidentially thought that uninstalling CIOS'es was fine - untill I realized that I had effectively wiped the oS... XD. That was some fun stuff to explain to my tech market on why my wii did no longer boot =). Ahh... the good old Wii.

    • @alessandroceloria
      @alessandroceloria 6 лет назад +11

      @The BoneZone "he show you the exact steps in the fucking video dumbass"
      That's not the fucking point of my comment, dumbass.
      If someone does not understand what a banner brick is, they shouldn't install WADs. If someone does not understand what is bootmii, they shouldn't install it. With these mods the user is tampering with very low level parts of the system, so if something goes wrong it does so very quickly and very badly. It's not rocket science, a quick read through a couple of pages in wiibrew.org will set you off for the mod, you just have to learn. Doing stuff blindfolded following a video and not knowing why you are doing stuff is bad. Take a look at 3DS and PS3 modding forums: the first thing they tell to newcomers is to never follow videoguides, because they quickly get out of date and don't describe the full picture. Not because video creators are bad, but because it's impossible to do in a 15 minutes video.
      Then again, nobody holds you back. It's your console, do whatever you feel like. This is just a piece of advice from someone that actually mods consoles as a "job"

    • @benlinlin1
      @benlinlin1 6 лет назад

      Actually, Priiloader can grant access to Homebrew Channel and you can uninstall the corrupt WAD from it. Because the Banner Brick itself occurs when Wii Menu is loaded, and Priiloader prevents that.

    • @alessandroceloria
      @alessandroceloria 6 лет назад

      @@benlinlin1 My bad, I mixed stuff up. It's not banner bricks that are bad, that was only with the beta of preloader IIRC. It's IOS bricks that could be a problem, especially if it's the Sysmenu IOS (it's the IOS 80 on 4.3 IIRC but I would need to check that up, it's been a long time since the last wii mod I made). In general everything that messes up the Sysmenu could mess up preloader, but yeah it loads before banners. Not to say that preloader is bad, obiouvsly, but bootmii is just better, and if it's possible to install it, like in this case, it's always the best thing to do.

    Just a heads up, it seems that you'll be able to re-download titles already purchased on the Wii after the end of the month. You just won't be able to make new purchases after that point, although the effective cutoff was last March when they stopped allowing purchases for Wii points.
    "You can still add Wii Points until March 26, 2018, and purchase content
    on the Wii Shop Channel until January 30, 2019. In the future, we will
    be closing all services related to the Wii Shop Channel, including
    redownloading purchased WiiWare, Virtual Console titles, and Wii
    Channel, as well as Wii System Transfer Tool, which transfers data from
    Wii to the Wii U system.
    "

      @@jessescollection485 the Wii U is not a beast at all, it was underpowered from the start and didn't offer anything exciting over its competition. Its CPU is based on the PowerPC 750CL, the same CPU the Wii used which itself was evolved from the GameCube's CPU, but this time with three cores hacked together (I say "hacked together" because they are - this is evident by the fact they don't support proper multicore operation) and the console's graphics are based on the Radeon HD 4000 architecture, which was already 4 years out of date when the Wii U launched. The system has an abymsal 2GB of DDR3 RAM, of which only 1GB is actually available to games (The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has to get around this by unloading the Wii U Menu). The Wii U's failure was not just because of poor marketing - though that was definitely a factor - it's because the console offered nothing new and was underpowered despite Nintendo stating it was designed to "bring back core gamers". The Wii U had some great games developed for it, but that doesn't make the console itself good or "a beast".

    It's sad that to play WiiWare games nowadays you are basically forced to pirate them. I really don't like to pirate games and never do in general, but when there is literally no other way to play them due to the storefront being no longer available and said games not being rereleased on other systems, I have to just sit back and say "Well no-one's making any money from these anymore and it's the publisher's fault that they are not on other systems when there is still a market for them, so I'm afraid you have left me with no choice". It's sad but true, man I hope that one day some of these exclusives get rereleased, would buy them in a heartbeat...

    Nintendo's amazing at many things, but I never buy anything from their online digital services if I can help it. This is an old issue with them, you pretty much have to accept that anything you buy for a platform from their online store is not forever and won't be automatically usable on their next platforms. It's good to know that fans have found a way around the issue, but the trouble needed to make it happen (not to mention Nintendo's own particular position on the issue), just makes it unpalatable. I don't understand how they think they win with this strategy. I bought about 200 dollars in Super Famicom games a few months ago to play old games, I wouldn't think of buying them on their digital distribution. Nintendo doesn't gain a thing from the second hand market.

    That's why you don't buy digital games

      Wii owners had no choice, but to buy WiiWare games digitally. Video games that were exclusive to WiiWare were never sold on physical discs like regular Wii games. They were only available for purchase as digital downloads through the Wii Shop Channel. Now that the Wii Shop Channel is being discontinued, there will be no legal way to purchase those WiiWare-exclusive games for use on a Wii. So if there are any WiiWare-Exclusive games that you'd like to play and you haven't already purchased them through the Wii Shop Channel, the only way you'll be able to play them is if you download pirated copies of those games from the Web and install them on your Wii.

      It's a terrible injustice.

      No, this is why you don't sell them. The issue here us the fact you can't buy them.

      To be fair, your existing games will continue to function.

      Unless they somehow get deleted. Then you're screwed.

    Wish I had found this before I'd made it through part of the process. No brick, but i kept finding tutorials that had directions off just a bit. I still got some steps I shoukd take that I havent done yet. Thank you.

    The golden age of the Wii was very short-lived from my perspective. Five years into the life of the thing and they started seriously cutting down the fun and functionality. I loved the weather and news apps, and Iwata Talks. The Wii was for me the absolutely-perfect system for that era, because it looked great on a CRT and was such a friendly, likeable system that I'd fire it up first thing in the morning with my coffee, look at the weather, look at the news, play a little game..... I adored that system when it was fully functional. It really is pretty sad by comparison now; they ought to think a little harder about the fact that if you make the system seem like a beloved pet, you shouldn't just lobotomize the poor thing after five years. It genuinely makes me sad to see the dead channels on the machine and I would never remove them because I can't get them back of course. Same reason I keep the link for the dead 'Ace Combat Infinity' on my PS3 (paid ten bucks for it, put another twenty into buying bonus crap, and can't even play the story missions anymore? screw that!). I haven't bought a new system in seven years because of this stuff and the many other negative aspects of 'online-only' games. It can really be heartbreaking; I hope desperately to ever be able to play 'Pac-Man S' again, which in my opinion was the best Pac-Man ever made, a two-minute speed round that ramped up the ghost points ever time you eat them. Nowhere to be found in the last few years.
