  • Episode 2 of the GS850 build series! In this video I go through the process of refreshing the engine, carbs, frame and more! Dime City Cycles came through clutch with all the hard to find parts for this old Japanese motorcycle. If you have a vintage Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha they are your number one parts resource!
    Also want to give a huge THANK YOU, to Trevor (@Ditstang) for doing an amazing job on the carb rebuild! He got them looking better than when they left the factory! He provides a lot of different motorcycle services (Specializes in BMW K Series). If you are in need of blasting, refinishing, powdercoating, etc. shoot him a message on Instagram or email at ditstang@hotmail.com to and let him know Bay City sent you!

    Ah ah ah, what memories! I had a GS850L the custon version, slightly modified, 7cm extension for the fork, all the chrome casings and a black gold glitter paint. Strong engine, very reliable and indestructible with good maintenance. What happiness! I can't wait to see the end. Good job!

      I use a syringe and pump fluid up both brakes into the master and then do the bleeding process from there. This is usually the easiest way I’ve found to do it.

    I watch your vids. Seen a couple of your bikes online (bit too much for me. how about a charitable part?) always impressed w/the craftsmenship & time you put in, especially the editing & vid work.
    Personally I'd like to see a different mod now. That & too many copycat BAD Cafe racer/chopped rear frame bikes FS now. Own a mint low mile barn queen CBX I'd never mod & a 38 Indian that just got restored + 3 other random bikes.
    Frame mod? Low rider/Bonneville type bike? I'd love to see a Bonneville speedster conversion.
    What impresses me is that you don't go the HI $ method of conversion' yet come out w/show quality work. Puris5s scoff @ using aerosol paint yet you turn out perfect finish bikes. I liked this bike vid as no seat got chopped + you didn't buy another bmw r/75 before I could. (yeah I'm mildly local RN) Love those bricks! Keep up the great vids no matter what style you choose👍👍👍

    How has that rust oleum engine paint worked out? I’m thinking of using the same thing but I want to make sure it holds up

    • @BayCityRestorations
      @BayCityRestorations  6 месяцев назад +1

      It has held up great. Once the engine goes through a few heat cycles it really bakes on there. Also gas does not affect the finish at all. I once did an engine with VHT and the first bit of gas stripped the paint right off.

    I think It'd be kinda cool to build a carburetor air box out of clear polycarbonate. I'm wondering how close of shape it'd have to be to OEM to flow properly? I know they make glue specifically for polycarbonate & polycarbonate is the super tough plastic they make bullet proof glass out of.

      I’ve been trying to think about what to do with it. I don’t want to do pod filters which is why I freshened up the original box.

      @@BayCityRestorations The black stock box looks fine but I think a tinted opaque air box would look cool. I wonder how much someone would charge you to make an opaque 3D printed air box? Just throwing some ideas out there .
      I like the way pod filters look but only if the bike runs good with them. Wanna get some pods & dynojet kit for my 85 Yamaha JX700 but told by many it'll never run as good, compared to stock air box. Others say it'll be faster off the line and/or top speed but sputter in spots throughout mid range. If I knew it wouldn't be terribly bad in mid range/only slight sputter in a couple spots, I might still get some pods. Just hate to spend $200 only to switch back to the stock air box. Also heard side winds on a windy day will cause issues.
