Joe was small in stature but had a heart as big as Giant stadium!

My dad played for North Middlesex back in his time.. He got off the bus at Ayer HS for a basketball game (middle of dead winter) and saw Joe running with a ball in his hands around the track... My dad talks about that moment like he saw Jordan

Met Joe myself, back in the nineties. What was striking was how a man of such stature and accomplishment was so humble.

I remember going to Pace University to watch the Gmen in pre season training. It was Joe's rookie season and I was there for their first full pads scrimmage. On one of his first carries they ran him to LT's side and Lawrence just crumpled him. Welcome to the NFL kid. Anyway, what I loved about Joe and most of the rest of that Giants team (with the exception of perhaps McConkey who just couldn't help himself) was that he scored he'd just give the ball back to the ref and run back to the sideline. These days players celebrate every 3rd play of the game as if they'd won the Super Bowl. Joe Morris and Mark Bavaro. Stoic and punishing. What a team.

Well stated. The NYGs of the 80s and early 90s were special.

Joe Morris and Mark Bavaro - essentially 90% of the Giants offense during those days, or so it seemed. I can't imagine the pressure on the opposing offenses to know that they could receive the ball only once or if they're lucky twice during each quarter!!!

They were from a military family (FORT DEVENS, MA) and their dad worked at the local Post office.. They were the most DISCIPLINED, and RESPECTED family around.. Their father is a LEGEND locally, and the Morris' sons followed suit .. Probably the best family unit out of central MA

For two years this guy was the best back in the league. The Redskins signed a guy Jaret Patterson who reminds me of Joe Morris.

Me too. I was a Raiders fan in the early 80s (loved their uniforms) but when Morris became a NYG I switched my allegiance.

Back when it was a man’s game. Joe was small but strong as a beast he could squat almost 600 lbs. met him once at an autograph thing. nice and humble as can be...i asked him to sign something for my redskins fan uncle he smiled big and said “that ain’t right, doggin’ on you uncle”.
