Oliver and Company is like what Bolt is like during the post renaissance. It's the final film of the dark ages. It's also a film that we know set the stage for disney, preparing them for the next era of disney animation with having songs, and also making annual disney movie releases.
FUN FACT: Penny from The Rescuers was supposed to be the one to adopt Oliver. But just like Cruella from said movie, they decided to create Jenny instead.
Also, Natalie Gregory (who voiced Jenny Foxworth) played Alice in the 1985 2-part TV musical version of *"Alice in Wonderland",* produced by Irwin Allen and starring actors from some of his films: Irwin's wife Sheila Allen, Red Buttons, Shelley Winters, Ernie Orsatti, Roddy McDowall, Telly Savalas, and Ernst Borgnine; as well as other big names like Ringo Starr, Lloyd & Beau Bridges, Sammy Davis Jr., John Stamos, Pat Morita, and Tom McLoughlin (future director of *"Friday the 13th Part 6: Jason Lives")* as the suit actor for the Jabberwocky.
Let me just say that Good Company will always be my favorite song from this film, but of course Why Should I Worry should be up there with the greats. Oliver is a determined protagonist in spite of his shortcomings, and the dogs all make great supporting characters. It certainly is underrated, but of course Disney was only starting to come out of the Dark Age prior to the Renaissance starting.
I always keep forgetting this movie was an adaptation of "Oliver Twist." Guess it doesn't help that it lacks the classic line: "Please sir. I want some more." Even still, I loved this movie as a kid and I really need to rewatch it.
I named my orange cat Oliver because of this movie. We recently had to put him down last Saturday and I sang Good Company to him in his final moments. He was the best kitty.
This movie and the great mouse detective should've start the rennaissemce era. They are both amazing. They both deserve more love and respect, like we put love and respect for some movies like the lion king..
Oh heck yeah! This is literally the first movie I can remember seeing in theaters. I tried so hard to memorize all the songs. It was also a minor fixation, and my biggest Harkness Compliant feral love until Lion King. It actually still gets up there with the 101 Dalmatian animated shows. The funny romance between Tito and Georgette is really nice, especially since she's such a gold digger, this might be her only relationship based on affection. I actually want to know what a chioodle looks like. Bonus romantic cuteness for Dodger and Rita. Plus extra for choosing a relatively obscure breed like saluki. Good show all around. A fun review of a fun movie.
12:38 geez Georgette, it was just a misunderstanding. Also, he’s a kid and he doesn’t even have a bowl of his own so that explains why Oliver is eating out of yours
"Why Should I Worry" is easily the best song of the film but it also has one of my favorite Disney villains deaths ever. So I say this one is an underrated film for the Disney vault.
Huh, Cheech Marin and Roscoe Lee Browne in a Disney movie together before The Lion King and Treasure Planet. Now I've seen everything. As for Sykes, I think Joshscorcher said it best when he called this movie "an animated movie directed by Martin Scorsese" whenever this guy shows up. 17:43 YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIHATETHATSONGIHATETHATMOVIESOMUCH!
I loved this film as a kid; but rewatching it as an adult, it's only okay. Not terrible, but I don't think it's anything that special. Than again, it does have one of the most brutal villian deaths
I love old school gritty Disney I mean How is that Oliver and company a movie with talking dogs has a bigger pair than almost anything from Disney nowadays
It's a good film for what it is. I'd just have the film 10 to 20 minutes longer to flesh out the story. Some of the most brutalist Disney death scenes ever and some of the most catchy songs ever included in a Disney film. The sketchy animation is great as well.
@@EntertainmentFan11 Not just Scooby. Let's see, there's the baby owl and the dachshund in Heidi's Song, then there's every single animal in Shimmer And Shine, Cujo, General from Cat's Eye, etc, etc, etc.
It may not be in the same league as the renaissance era Disney movie, but it's vastly superior to the 'Buddie' movies, or whatever else Air Bud Entertainment craps out.
I'll admit, I have to say this is one of the weaker Disney movies, I liked the Dodger and I was suggesting the karaoke I went to added "Why Should I Worry", because that's a song I would sing for karaoke, it's still not a Disney movie I could get into. I was able to get into Great Mouse Detective which didn't start the Disney renaissance, but this one I have to say I disliked.
This is one of Disney's most underrated movies.
I don’t know if most underrated, but it’s definitely up there. I’d say Treasure Planet and Atlantis are more underrated though.
I love this movie same as the two Atlantis movies.
Hopefully it won’t get a live action remake.
@@forrestdupre87 same here.
@forrestdupre87 hopefully not
Oliver and company was definitely a classic Disney animated film that I enjoyed and still enjoy.
Oliver & Company is a childhood favorite of mine growing up.
I haven't seen that movie in years ever since
13:00 This was my and my grandmother's song. Rest her soul. 😢😢😢
In the book, Sykes had a bull terrier named Bullseye. This Sykes has two dobermans named Roscoe and Desoto.
And in the book, SYkes had rizz, but in the movie, he's single.
@@Yellowguy0619
What's rizz?
rizz means charm@@evancredeur7498
@@evancredeur7498 Rizz is modern slang for charisma or sex appeal.
Perfect timing since Billy Joel just came out with his new song "Turn The Lights Back On". Another great review Isaac!
Ironically, Disney also did a live action Oliver Twist that actually closely resembles the original novel.
That was one of those movies produced for ABC's late 1990s revival of "The Wonderful World of Disney".
I saw thumbnail and immediately stopped what i was doing to finally watch you review my favorite Disney animated movie.

It's definitely a Fox and the Hound styled version of Bolt
5:43 Hi Dom DeLuise. So that Y U weren't in The Land Before Time.
I love this movie it was my one of my favorites as a kid. Helped I love animal movies still do.

Jenny Foxworth is so adorable
FUN FACT: Penny from The Rescuers was supposed to be the one to adopt Oliver. But just like Cruella from said movie, they decided to create Jenny instead.
So does Oliver & Company coincidentally live in the same world as The Rescuers, 101 Dalmatians, and Lady & the Tramp??
Eh, kind of.@@abrahamcortina6322

1 of Disney's most UNDERRATED classics.
THIS MOVIE NEEDS TO GET A STAGE PLAY BRODWAY MUSICAL ADAPTATION

Oliver Company, one of my favorite movies.

Late but, that's terribly heartbreaking. I'm so sorry for the poor boy, and you of course.
This is also the first Disney film 2 put product placement in its films, like McDonald's, Kodak, Coca-Cola, USA today,SONY, & Microsoft.
That happens again in The Wild which also featured Times Square
Ya noticed how Roscoe didn't want anything to do with Oliver, and yet when Desoto got scratched, Roscoe ended up going after the cat anyway?
For all we know, Roscoe and Desoto could've been brothers, bound by sibling loyalty.
@@berengerdietiker22
And let's not forget Roscoe could've handled Dodger by himself, and Desoto abandoned his attack on Fagin anyway.
11:08 Que Gary on the drums.😅🤣😂
i'm excited to perform in Oliver the stage musical with my Musical Theatre Village friends later this late spring
This is my favorite movie in 1988 and I would love to have a Oliver and Company TV series than a sequel
I think it’s every one’s favourite song
What song
I love that Billy Joel is in this Disney film like his British equivalent, Sir Elton John had a lot to do with Lion King.
Oliver and Company Is The *BEST* F*cking Disney Movie Ever Made.
Geroette's behavior is how real dogs act when meeting a new pet very hostle
12:37 How cruel.😢
I remember watching this all the time on vhs, I had like a huge framed poster of it. Loved this!
I remember watching this movie when it was on Toon Disney (before it became Disney XD)
Same!! I miss that channel so much. I blame Jetix taking over most of Toon Disney’s schedule for the channel’s closure.
I remember watching House of Mouse and Emperor's New School on the Disney Channel back in 2007 or 2008
I love Oliver and company soooo much.

While it's far from Disney's best, but it is decently entertaining movie and it was a nice way to end off the Disney Dark Age.
