It's impressive that you can always see Edgar Bergen's mouth moving when he's doing his act, but you don't care because his banter with his puppets is so compelling.
I grew up with the Ludwig von Drake version so when I first saw the original segment, I thought, "Who ARE these people???" when I saw Charlie and the gang.
There are a few facts that I've learned about both segments, I'll tell ya, the original story of 'Little Bear Bongo' is actually quite depressing (not as much as The Fox and the Hound or The Little Mermaid). 1.) Bongo (and of course Lulubell) is a Kamchatka brown bear, which are naturally short bears. 2.)Lulubell is actually a combination of two characters, Bongo's first love interest Silver Bear (who is a black bear) and an unnamed female bear who Bongo ends up with when he came back to the circus. However, unlike Lulubell, Silver Ear never liked Bongo from the start & actually ended up mating with Lump Jaw. 3.) There are actually three alternatives of who Mickey got the magic beans from. One draft had Queen Minnie delightfully giving him the beans, another where he was swindled by Honest John & Gideon, and another (which was made into a book) had an old gypsy trading the beans to Mickey for the cow. 4.) That same book that was made from one of the rough/scrapped drafts, just followed the story of 'Jack and the Beanstalk' beat by beat. *Mickey going up the beanstalk alone, while Donald and Goofy are reduced to doing nothing like Jack's mother. *The Golden Harp was owned by the giant, instead of being important Mcguffin/treasure to the whole valley where our three heroes lived. *The inclusion of the bags of gold & golden egg laying hen were in it.
Bongo is my favorite, and I'm glad he found love, also fun fact Mickey and the beanstalk was Walt Disney's last role as Mickey as his smoking got to bad to keep voicing him!
I remember having a copy of a betamax tape with only the Donald Jack and the Bean Stalk portion when I was a kid. It was a tape I rented and just never returned, and was thrown out decades later when our betamax wasn't working anymore. I especially remember them slicing the bread so thin that it was transparent, I liked that animation short.
@@robbiewalker2831 Both were deleted. Queen Minnie was the first version around when production first began in 1939 then the Pinnochio villains were added in a second draft made just before the film got shelved during WWII
@@MathieuLeblanc1991 That cant be right, because the storyboards for teh deleted scene showed Minniewith white eyes and pupils, and that design was introduced for the characters in 1941, wasn't it?
3:57 See now if this wasn't a Disney movie, that bear would be viciously mauling each and every last one of those fuckers for food! XD 5:09 I mean, they are animals. I love Bongo when I was young, and still loved it. The Slap, I do remember the Lion king deleted scene (Well I watched Bongo first before I watched the Lion king deleted scene) when Scar is in love with Nala, but to escape, Nala scratched and slapped Scar which she shouldn't have done it, because instead of getting angry or attack her, the slap made Scar in love, and it made me remembered Bongo! When bears as well as predators like lions are in love, they always "Say it with a Slap"!
This Movie Was Release On VHS 3 Times 1982 1997 And 2000 And Yes That Same Year It Got A DVD Release But Both Bongo And Mickey And The Beanstalk Did Get Separate VHS Releases
One would expect him to appear in the show "Legend of the Three Caballeros", but sadly he didn't. Too bad, the show already has some impressive cameos from Disney's history. BTW, underrated show.
Anyways, I watched the trailer of the movie, the Announcer just said "Celebrating 20th birthday of Mickey Mouse", but what does he mean by celebrating his 20th Anniversary? I mean Mickey was introduced in 1928, and Fun and fancy free was released in 1947, the movie should have been released in 1948 to celebrate Mickey Mouse's 20th birthday!
In the solo Mick and The BeanDtalk cartoon that I have on VHS from The Mini Classics line they edit the scen with the dragon fly and they also edit the scene where Goofy is jumping on jello trampoline to get his hat
Well the Ludwig cartoon version did the same thing. Instead of Edgar fainting, it ends with Ludwig (a talking duck) fainting at the sight of an actual giant. So I think the Hunter is keeping with tradition.
@@lexramstudios1386 Yeah it also made me uncomfortable when talked about Bongo since he seemed like a very sweet bear. He said that he deserved a painful and agonizing death.
Question how many of you have played the Donkey Kong games follow up Question wouldn't it be crazy if Disney made a Fun and Fancy Free game where the Golden Harp gets captured by a giant ape who throws barrels and wears a tie
18:58 TBH that bit doesn't really work when they have a magic harp of unknown powers. All we know is that her spell makes the land fertile but we don't know what the limits to it are, can it do anything else? Who knows? Probably!
Well Bergen did say that Willie was "cruel and selfish. He didn't care what happened to the valley, he just wanted someone to sing him to sleep." But who am I correct anyway.
It's impressive that you can always see Edgar Bergen's mouth moving when he's doing his act, but you don't care because his banter with his puppets is so compelling.
Fun Fact: Willie the Giant is voiced by Billy Gilbert, who was also the voice of Sneezy from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs 10 years prior!
The Reason Willie Took The Golden Harp Is Because He Want Someone To Sing Him To Sleep
@loganmosher5935 , why didn't he turn on the radio?
@@stevensampson5823 They didn't have radios back then. AKA during Willie's Time.
@dragolingrand7778 , That's why they called it Happy Valley.

Bongo is my favorite, and I'm glad he found love, also fun fact Mickey and the beanstalk was Walt Disney's last role as Mickey as his smoking got to bad to keep voicing him!
The motivation was that the Giant needed her songs to fall asleep since it was explained in one of the scenes between her and Mickey
