The overall design of the ship, stands the test of time. Very unique and timeless. I don't know if I would call aerodynamic but classic none the less. Great job bringing the Spindrift back to life/
W - O - W !! What an awesome result.. Im blown away. The small campfire add-on REALLY makes it pop for such a small thing like that.. The whole thing looks unbelievably cool and just puts a smile on your face.. As a vintage Sci-fi fan this build was great-fun to watch come together like it did. Thanks so much.. incredible. Great vids..
Another great build and diorama, Boyd - I particularly like the inclusion of the little glowing fire. Brings back many happy memories from my childhood of when I used to watch 'Land of the Giants' on TV!
The diorama looks awesome. Nice change over to the safety pin and string. The lighting looks really cool, I love the dome effect lighting! Knocked it out of the park again Boyd!
Very cool model. Love the addition of the safety pin and "rope". The plant life looks quite good. Sorry about the very odd details. I've had issues like that before, but in a different scale, and, finally, gave up. Now, I'd paint the striping. Impressive model all lit up. Looking forward to the XB-70!
What an enjoyable video!! Thank you, you certainly do have a knack and skill for this sort of thing. If I was 50yrs younger, you'd be an inspiration and a guide!!
Wonderful job. I had the original Aurora kit many years ago, and hand-painted the stripes. Took a while but was worth it. Wish it had survived the years.
Beautifully done Boyd. Am doing a diorama themed slideshow for March’s Hot Off the Bench. Would love to inclide this. Very nice. I’ve always loved that show. Years ago I built this ship and used JTGraphics decals and don’t recall those were hard to use. So that also might be an alternative assuming he still sells them. Great job.
Excellent work Boyd! And thanks for the heads up on the decals. I have the paint masks from Aztek Dummy for those stripes, so that will be the way I go if I ever get the lighting sorted out.
Very nice build. There is a little trick that us car and jet builders do to make our canopies and windshields look really clear. We clean them off really well to make sure there’s no finger prints on them or oils of any kind, then we gently dip them in Future Floor Wax with tweezers and leave them standing up against something to dry. I cover them up while they dry so no airborne dust can get on them, then they become very clear and thin looking, like theirs no glass there. Future Floor Wax is another name now but it’s great for a gloss clear coat for airplanes and things. I stick to my clear lacquer for car kits, it has a stronger finish than the Future, but for clear plastic it’s awesome.
Yep, that is a great method for making the plastic glass look better. In this case the front glass was really thick with distortions in it that wouldn't go away.
@@TrekWorks yeah, I think you said that the kit is a reissue ? I know those old kits weren’t made very good, like the old MPC car kits. Yes, sometimes we have to replace them with thinner, more realistic looking ones, I’ve done that to many car models. Nice build though.
@@TrekWorks Yeah, the video started and I saw the backdrop and I thought, "Mercy! Where did he get that thing? It looks like it was made for this kit!" So imagine my gleeful shock when you stated it came with the model!
About the decals, I always inspect my decals to make sure that there is enough clear coat over them. If they look brittle or thin, then I airbrush some high-gloss clear lightly over them and let the page dry for a day or two to harden up. I use RUST-OLEUM HIGH-GLOSS CLEAR for all my models and decal pages that I print on my inkjet printer, as well as reinforcing the thin, brittle pages of decals. You don’t want to airbrush the decal pages too much at once, just dust in on, wait a few minutes, then another coat. I usually dust mine about 3 times with clear, then let dry. If you put too much paint on the page at once, the decals will become wet and slide out of place, or the thinner in the lacquer could melt the decals and cause color bleeding, wrinkles and other deformities. Cheers
Turned out really good looking. Pity about the decals-- I would'a thought you'd just do it in paint. Yeah, various pains on the overall shape-- but hey, you mixed up some paint (invisibly applied) already...
Yes, an internal battery would work for that. It would eventually have to be replaced though and you'd have to make the model so it could be opened up to get to it. Doing that means some extra work to eliminate any light leaks where the seams on the opening area would be.
I'm not very good at all the detail work when it comes to models. Do you build models For customers And sell them. Or do people send you Stuff to customize.
The decals look better than I thought they would look.

Very cool Boyd! Land of the Giants was a family favorite back then. So many cool Irwin Allen shows back then. Eye candy for a kids imagination.

Very nice. I'm not a modeler but I loved the show so the thumbnail caught my eye. Thanks for sharing your work!
This really turned out excellent! Love the details and the glowing fireplace as well! The diorama really brings it to life!
Thanks, everything came together pretty decent and I really like the model itself.

Absolutely beautiful ship. The coolness is otherworldly: Tesla tech I reckon. Land of the Giants featured in my early childhood, along with Star Trek.
one of my all time favorite ships... excellent job
Wow! That is cool Boyd, really nice work, as always! Keep on keeping on bud!

Thanks Kenny, this kit is currently plentiful, maybe a good candidate for one of your lighting boards.
@@TrekWorks great idea Boyd!
Looks really good...like the camp fire, nice touch.
MEOW!!! 🤣 looks great Boyd... Very cool display.

It turned out Great Boyd!!! Very Cool sitting on that base!!!!
Great job, Boyd. I like the safety pin addition, and camp fire.

Sure thing Oggie, no need to ask. Do I need to send pics or can you use the ones I posted on facebook?
Fantastic build. She looks great.
Love it Boyd. Amazing job. I'm watching episodes of this every night I get in from work .Just finished series one. Great work.
Beautiful build and the diorama really brings it to life. I'm so glad you can buy setting solutions for trouble decals.
Just came across you on RUclips wow the spindrift model is absolutely amazing 👏
Excellent work Boyd! And thanks for the heads up on the decals. I have the paint masks from Aztek Dummy for those stripes, so that will be the way I go if I ever get the lighting sorted out.
Really amazing Boyd, I can't believe the transformation from the basic kit to the finished model

Awesome work on the Spindrift Boyd. Definitely a very good kit for the money and the satin clear does tie all it together quite nicely.
very well done on a interesting kit..
Looks real good Boyd. This diorama really takes me back. Thank you sir!
Love it excellent work, I like the cat out back..
Great build.
Ah I see what you mean about the back drop it's cool great build Boyd.👍
Pretty cool that they include it with the kit.

Definitely a kit I want to revisit! As always first class!! Bravo!
beautiful work
awesome detail work
Great paint job.
I ended up painting the stripes on the one I did years ago.
Great job!

1/64th scale? More like actual size... LOL Beautiful job, as usual!
Always loved the Spindrift one of the best parts of the Irwin Allen series was the various craft and props. Have you done the Robot from LIS?
Yes, and with lights and sounds. The video is awhile back here on my channel. The big Jupiter II kit is as well.
Cool build,Boyd, No explanation in the series of what happened to Betty,The Hostess with the Mostess, she was super cute ....
Oh, does she disappear in the series? I haven't seen the show in a long time.
@@TrekWorks yeah ooopsie .Spoiler alert ...
The reason Betty was off the show at times is because Heather Young the actress who played her was pregnant.
@@shericthoralan yeah I know that ,it wasn't explained in the series 😀
Masterpiece !

esos modelos son una maravilla tienen hasta avientacion adentro .
Will you be able to updates us on the upgraded decals?
Kitty says live long and meow.
Have you ever built model for TV
MOVIES
OR commercial or Architecture
Happen to have a space cruiser C-57D?
Yes I built one a few years ago. The video is here on my channel. I also have the huge kit of it that I will be building at some point.
Hi boyd I've the model could you send me the lighting you have on it many thanks keep up the good work all best
👍
I’ve done my calculations and that safety pin, in-scale, would have weighed 276 lbs. 😁
Hah, hence the term "Science Fiction" :)
be cool to put a lithium in it to charge pick it up still lit

Because I would definitely pay you to build me a next generation enterprise With lights and stuff.
I can tell this is from Season 1.
You hardly ever saw the Spindrift spaceship in its entirety in series the only time was when a deaf boy steals the spaceship .
