I think that night was what they call 'type 2 fun' . Really enjoyed it and thanks for the invite. A weird coincidence I'd planned to go there on the same night. Or it could just be Murray's (Scotland's Mountains) influence. Till the next one ! A
Nice. At the start I thought “he’s dyed his beard” 😂😂. 8 years ago. 😮 Tent looked ok. I’d like to see it in the wind. It’s like my Chinese thing. High. Wind kills high tents. Good to see Andrew in a new tent 🙄 😂 😂. If he put water in that MacAllan then throw him aff the mountain. World’s best whisky 🥃 that. I had a dram in Fort William yince. Cost me £35. But it was beautiful. Good to see you out again look forward to some winter scenes. Atb. 👍
Thanks for watching and would maybe wait until I can at least test it in some wind and heavy rain. Need to get a true feel for its capabilities in some bad weather. I dont recommend anybody buys a tent based on YT reviews as what works for one may not be best for another. Have bought a few tents based on reviews done by others and then not been impressed myself in the slightest. Atb
Great trip guys, new shelter looks good value . I’m yet to get out this winter due too life/work/illness etc but I’m off next week and the rains back 😂 nice glimpse of the aurora
Thanks mate and hope you are feeling better and fighting fit soon. Need to do a bit more testing more so in some wind to see how it does. Hope that it may be a bit more stable, or at least less flappy due to the thicker flysheet. Looking forward to finding out. Atb
I'm all about these videos. Always wanted to get into wild camping, and this time of year. Good to see what equipment is used. Gives me a great insight. Cheers bud 👍
Nice camp 👍. I been lookin at that tent on ultralightoutdoor gear .. i fancy a summer freestanding tent . That whiskey worth every single penny up on that frosty summit 😅
Neat looking tent, very msr. Nice to see that we hill again, same kind of conditions as my visit. (wee blizzard blootered the path) great stuff guys, cheers.
Been waiting for this since chatting to you on your way up. A very cold but excellent nicht for you and interesting tent. Enjoyed the video and wee chat👍
Good looking wee tent that. Good to see you both out. Andrew P is the best tent reviewer on the Tube for UK relevant products imho. Was that the Montane extreme smock you had on? Ive got the Jacket.......brilliant product, especially when its freezing. ATB Ray, good vid as ever.
Cheers for watching. Andrew has tried a few tents 😂 Yes I had on the Montane smock but will say it is far too warm for hiking at times as I was melting. Atb
Great stuff, certainly looked a chilly night, but a nice one, with the Aurora and a beautiful sunrise. And I like a wee dram myself, but a £1000? Bit out of my budget that.. Cheers, Take care All the best Dave & Buddy* 👍 (*the doggo)
Nice one Ray.👍⛺️ still to venture up Vrackie. Great footage and looked a nice tent for the money. I see your using the Osmo action4, would be interested in hearing how your finding it.? I was a click away from buying it when Insta launched the AcePro which I went for. Not had a chance to put it thru its paces yet. Was sick and tired of the issues with GoPro over the years. ATB Frank.
Hi Frank and hope you like the Ace Pro. Have to say that I got sent one to review from Insta but told them I would not be reviewing it and in process of returning it to them. Don't like the close focus issues as the lens is more bias to the background being sharp. Much prefer the Osmo Action 4 to be honest. Also DJI have there new wireless mic coming out which will work with the Osmo Action 4 without any boxes or connections. Ideal if it is pissing down or wild weather. Weird thing is that both the Osmo and Insta have the exact same sensor its just how the processor has been configured that's different. Will say though i do really like the flip screen. its just when I compare the footage from both cameras on my 4K editing monitor there is a big difference and Osmo is better. Not sure what a lot of the reviewers are seeing as my results don't match the hype and have told Insta this. Thanks for watching. Atb for 2024.
@@RS.Outdoors cheers Ray for the reply. Interesting what you have to say about the insta as I took mine up to Glencoe on a driech day to try it in low light and wasn’t impressed either. Like yourself I liked the flip screen but I wasn’t impressed with the Quality. I also took my GoPro 11 for comparison and thought the quality was much better in the GP footage. Wasn’t that impressed with the clarity zoom or the pure video mode either. I was using also the setup for using my external mic and when I got home couldn’t fit the door back on. My wife and I tried for hrs to get the door back on but just kept falling back off another poor design in my opinion, so like yourself I’m sending mine back. Will now try the Osmo esp like you say with the new mic coming out. Thanks again and all the best for 2024
To be honest my audio has been screwed up last few trips. Lost my wind muff and cant buy a replacement anywhere. Decided to use my Rode lav mic plugged into the wireless mic without checking and it producses terrible interference. Had to go through every audio section and repair it. I use this which is free and saved this whole vlog. podcast.adobe.com/enhance#
take note american tentmakers: orange/yellow innertent makes for a nice cosy warm feeling in the tent, even when the weather is grey and misty... Much nicer than the white grey innertents american tent makers make.
Think it could be. Just make sure to get the 5.8r value version. Actually find it more comfortable to sleep on that my older Sea to Summit Etherlite. Have been out in fairly cold weather and been good. Need to try it in someplace like the Cairngorms this winter. Will be taking a foam mat for underneath as a backup though to supplement it in case it gets pushed passed its limits. Atb
Another great video from you. Mind if I ask a question?... Do you think there is any benefit from using a small thermal heatpad inside the sleeping bag in extreme cold?
That might possibly work. I know many use a nolgene bottle and put hot water in b ut I wouldnt trust one. Got myself a 500ml small capacity minature hot water bottle from Amazon that was about £7 and takes exactly my mug quantity in boiling water :) Atb
HI Ray, blimey mate, that looked a cold one. What a great adventure though, stunning views and brillaint that you captured the northern lights. Cheers for sharing your adventure as always. All the best, Dave
I just ordered a Venture 1. I think what had me hooked was the Wechsel company video where the guy leans off vertical by about twenty degrees while stabilizing himself with one hand on the top of the tent. The tent hardly budged.
Will be trying to do an update on the tent soon I hope. Just come off the WHW last week and was camped in 25-50+ mph winds. Held up although I did have to brace it for a bit. No water come in and it was pelting down all night in the wind. It seemed to perform better in the wind I feel due to the thicker flysheet material and didn't flap like some tents I have had. Also it is sold as a three season tent but did perform really well and got me through a really stormy night. Downside is the front porch area is not very big and wish it was slightly bigger.
