      But macs are free. You just have to buy a used one that is a year old for about 2/3 the price of a new one then a year later you sell it for about $100 more than you paid for it and then buy another and repeat every few months or every year and never pay for a mac again. I have been doing this since 2003 and not only do I have top of the line macs in my home but I also have thousands of dollars on top of the free macs from the continuous flips. Don't buy new macs just buy a used one and snipe a good price when you want to buy it then when you sell take your time and charge a bit over market value to make up the loss of value during the year you owned it.
      The first time I wanted a mac I bought and sold about 10 times in the space of a few weeks until I had enough money made to get the mac I wanted for free. Then I thought about it and wondered why I should stop so I kept doing it albeit at a lower pace and made beer money every month with only a few hours of effort. I recommend everyone do this.

    PCIe Gen3 SSD's do not really need cooling when used with USB 3.2 Gen2 connections, so what case you use should not matter in terms of cooling.

    You forgot to mention that the 800-900 MB/s speed is mostly a limitation of USB-C cable/protocol. Even with USB 3.2, you only got 10 Gbps theoretical. The drive on the other hand performs much better if put in a x4 NVME slot. I get 1-6-2.0 GBPS on both read and writes. You should retest with a thunderbolt case and cable to see if the speed increases.

    • @andreaslange2649

      It does. Thunderbolt 3 allows 4GB/s, but for PCIe devices limited to 2GB/s, which more or less matches standard SSD speed and the speed of the internal SSD.
      Caution: The USB3Gen2x2 protocol is NOT supported at Mac´s USB-C slots. This standard allows 2GB/s, too, but such devices will work as Gen2 with 1GB/s with your Mac.

    A quote from Discworld by Terry Pratchett:
    “The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money. Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles. But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while the poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet. This was the Captain Samuel Vimes 'Boots' theory of socioeconomic unfairness.”
    This the same with Laptops. Buy a really cheap one at Costco and you will have to buy another one in 3 years time. I have an 10 years old MacBook Pro that is still fast enough to edit HD video, office, the lot. When I would sell it at E-Bay it would still bring around 500 Dollars.

    it's close to the performance of Samsung T7.
    Haven't been able to compare the prices, but a big big argument for Samsung T7 is the encryption that comes this it.
    Sure, you can format it to be encrypted but then you can't use it on a windows pc and probably not on an iPad or other device with usb-c.

    You can find thunderbolt external drives that are replaceable that can double the performance of USB3.2 Type C for about $99. I found a great option from a Brand called TEKQ on Amazon with an included thunderbolt cable. Right now you can get it with 1 Terabyte already installed for $255 and just replace the drive later if you want more. I bought mine with 256gb and upgraded the drive and it's been running rock solid for almost 2 years now on both Intel & Apple Silicon Macs. Great video by the way.

    Get a Thunderbolt only SSD enclosure and a M.2 NVME and you'll get about the same speed as your internal drive... the USB-C Enclosures are somewhat limited at the moment.

    Just a quick addition, you choose a Thunderbolt 3 capable enclosure and didn’t use or mention using with TB3 cable it would make the speeds very similar to internal.

    • @CreatedTech
      @CreatedTech  3 года назад

      This is not a TB3 enclosure. TB3 enclosures would give you better speeds, but they are also more expensive and IMO not worth the extra cost. 900mb/s is fast enough for 95% of people.

  • @natsukirei2016
    @natsukirei2016 2 года назад

    i think these low cost enclosures are fantastic, personally i keep one thunderbolt 3 enclosure for my most expensive SSD which is a 2TB sabre - i use an Orico Thunderbolt 3 NVME enclosure and its absolutely fantastic, amazing speeds
    I see it as a great backup for if the internal SSD ever dies to have a decent thunderbolt enclosure handy, and then anything else can be a cheaper, low cost enclosure.

    Get the Sabrent external nvme enclosure that’s Thunderbolt 3 and make sure to use a Thunderbolt 3 cable. Your speeds will be much closer to internal storage. You’re limiting yourself by using that usb-c cable (can’t remember what gen of usb it is). USB-c is just the connector so you need a better cable and enclosure to support the better speeds. You can use the same nvme in the Thunderbolt 3 setup.

    I've actually used this for about a year or so with an intel 660p m.2 drive. I haven't had too many issues. I tried using a type C to type C thunderbolt cable and had some issues with it disonnecting randomly on Windows, but using a type A to type C cable seems to work much better, but it's pretty quick as is, haven't had any issues or complaints with speed.

      I'd say get a Thunderbolt enclosure. Yes more expensive yet the RW speeds are close to the main Mac speeds. I will try to do a review on this WAVLINK TB3 around 120€ in Europe tax included. I put in a Crucial as you did and read speeds are around 2300 write around 1800. The thermal pads will help a lot.

    I had 2 Crucial SSD's, both failed and I've lost data. Company replaced the first one, but refused the second that failed because of their policies. Mind me, it was 100% disks failure under a normal usage. Never Crucial since then. It is crucial to have a reliable disks. Go Glyph! I still have both of these broken disks and am willing to send em to anyone who loves Crucial as a souvenir.
