@@GillianKnives hello, im back! I was wondering if you could tell me whst clutch setting you have your 30x set to for Taping thicker Ti with a 2-56 tap? and have you done any blind holes since you made this video? Thank you!!
@@lucasgumbiner8673Hey Lucas I have not use the tapmatic on a blind hole, for the blind holes I use a single point thread mill. Before I could thread mill, I used a hand tapping station from micotools.com, with a starting tap, followed by a bottoming tap.
There are tapping guns that are very good. The really good one is not made anymore but shows up on ebay every once in a while. There is also a 1/2 drive chuck for a 1/2 impact that is for taps. For small holes use a small chamfering bit in a handle. No need to chuck it in a machine. It's much faster.
For anyone watching this nice video, PLEASE NEVER HOLD ANYTHING WITH YOUR HAND WHILE USING A DRILL PRESS...ANYTHING. use a clamp, unless you don't mind a broken or missing hand.
Thats a great question that I don't have the answer for. I have two different collet sizes for my model 30x, with those two collets (I did not show the collets in the video btw), I know it can tap #80-00, #1-72, #2-56, and #4-40. But I don't know the full extent (read: range) of what it is capable of tapping. As for the #4-40 they break more often that the other sizes. I don't know if that is the limit of the tool, or if my clutch is just incorrectly adjusted. As for the different collet sizes, they are now difficult to find, that increases the range of the tool.
Start at the lowest setting, and try to tap the hole. Increase the clutch gradually until the spring becomes strong enough to reverse the tap, and it comes out of the hole. Once it is successful mark the setting with a sharpie. You will find the order of the clutch will correspond with the size of the taps. #1-72 will be lowest setting, higher for #2-56, and higher still for #4-40. Once each size has been marked with a sharpie, you can quickly return to the correct clutch position.
May help if you make a finger hold down. In a vee shape it will help stop lift of the thin metal and will still allow quick tapping . Only has to stop lift so loose is ok . Just what I do for tapping lots of holes. Good luck and thanks
Thanks for the feedback Silverbullet. I’ll definitely consider the finger hold down. Eventually I hope to have a few drill presses permanently setup for various operations, with the tapmatic in one of them, so I’m not loosing so much time with setup, and tear down.
Tap-matic is expensive, but definitely worth it. I have never regret spending money for it. It still makes me smile, when you perfectly tap holes. The only way it could be better is to attach it to a burgmaster.
Great Video! I love the Tapmatic 30x - its better than sliced bread. Have you ever used it on a CNC Mill? are there any tricks to using it on a CNC Mill?
If you tap any holes much larger you better make sure that the workpiece cannot come up off the table during tap withdrawal or all hell breaks loose along with your tap.
NICE😎👍👍 I SEE THAT YOUR THE 8TH PERSON THAT I KNOW OF,My RUclips account has went wack at some point over the last month and unsubd people not notifying me of comments and other things idk Bro,sorry about that I SUB'D back again👍👍
The video was alright but you need to keep your arm out of the way... Also the tapmatic seemed to have a wobble in the chuck, you'll be able to see it..
wtf!, i didn't even know these things had a clutch in them been breaking taps at work left and right for 6 years now, guess that's what happens when they offer basically no training and i have to youtube how to do my job. lol, just this week i've broken 4 1/4-20 and 2 10-24.
Great video! I'm having a gell of a time trying to find a proper rubber collet for my 30x for a 2-56 tap. Any recommendations?
I purchased mine from ENCO years ago. MSCDirect has the collets currently in stock.
@@GillianKnives thanks for the reply! I'll check it out

@@GillianKnives got it, and whst torque setimg to you usecwhen you thread 2-56 holes? Specifically in .160-.200in Titanium?
That's really wobbly! Thanks for the demo.

Love the video. Not everyone thinks to post how this device works. As a person who hand taps i would love to have this device to stop breaking taps.
Thanks for the feedback, and thanks for watching.
Super helpful. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Great tapping head for any tapped holes but not just knifemaking
Might want to put camera on left side next time. Your arm was blocking view a lot.

What range if taps does it work with?

good video,...i jsut scored the phoenix version of this tapping head...essentially the same thing...thank you for the video.

What setting is clutch set at ? Just got one trying to figure it out.

at 5:25 it not spinning as straight. Is there a different attachment you have used where its more stable?
nah its the same attachment, the tap just got bent by the warped trash piece of titanium I used for the video.
Just picked up a 50x for the shop. Thanks for the quick tutorial.
Nice shop addition. Your going to love the Tapmatic! Thanks for leaving the feedback.
Man I need one of those. Thanks for sharing

Cost?
thanks for this, I am considering buying one after digging a broken 1/4-20 out of my last project!

Very cool, i have a 50x myself.

Thanks for watching!
These things are the business. I'd like to own one some day.
Yeah they are really helpful with tapping small holes. Thanks for watching.
Nice video, we need this tool for automatic tapping machine.
Yeah the tapmatic is one of my favorite shop tools.
No references to the importance of setting the torque clutch.
This stops Taps from breaking in blind holes, or hard materials.
Great Video! I love the Tapmatic 30x - its better than sliced bread. Have you ever used it on a CNC Mill? are there any tricks to using it on a CNC Mill?
Countersink the holes, not chamfer
Thanks for your feedback.
Have you tried it with blind holes yet ?
For blind holes, I use a single point thread mill, on the CNC mill.
Tell me price?
Got one brand new, doesn't have that arm thing sticking out, anyone in the Chicagoland area interested. Selling it.

Thanks for your feedback. I usually only use the tapmatic for #1-72, #2-56, and #4-40 If I tap anything larger i usually use a hand tap.
swiss quality 😃🇨🇭

They all have a run out, saves tap breakage when entering the work, tapped holes still come out true to the surface.

At my shop we use these exclusively for blind holes and they are absolute crap for that. Not even worth a glance if youre not tapping through
Thanks for sharing your feedback.
WOW! there is a lot of runout what is going on there.??
Arbor in the top of the tapmatic bent.
