Interesting episode. Who would think to camp overnight in a service station! Like you say everything is expensive, but at least the food looked good, and you had access to the wifi and showers, plus the short walk. You both look so invigorated after your India trip. I can't wait to see your next destination. Stay safe and happy travels xx
We call Gloucester Services 'the place of dreams'... we live near Bristol.. it starts our journey and welcomes us home! A different offering to the usual service stations and supporting the local economy. Good to see you back in the UK.
We happened to stop at these services and saw Morgan as we were leaving about 3 weeks ago. My first time at these services - pretty unique experience as service stations go. I did manage to see you on top of Morgan enjoying the beaming sunshine on that day.
When I was younger and used to go on holiday with my parents in a touring Caravan, we used to stay in a service station overnight on the way from London to Cornwall. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of it, but my Dad called it a Night Halt. We basically just slept there in the Caravan and had breakfast the next morning and then carried on our journey to Cornwall. I'm going to Cornwall again this year with my husband and will try and check this Services out. Thank you for an excellent video. Xx
Gloucester Services marks the start and end of our holidays, when we travel from Cornwall to Shropshire and back. Love it there. Love the little doggy walk route too! Yes, super expensive, we browse in the shop, but rarely buy.
We was your neighbours for the night in our Hymer. 😊 Have stayed there a few times now and always a safe, good priced night sleep. Some of the really busy not so nice service stations charge £30 which is crazy. Great video.
What an amazing service station . It would have to be the best one in the world . I live in Australia , and there is nothing that would come close to this servo . Love the view from your roof top eatery😁😁🤣🤣 Looks like the secret is out about this servo, very busy & what an amazing variety of food , local products & veg .. Another great episode guys . Keep safe & happy motoring .
I never knew Gloucester services did this! It’s not to far from me either. Not a bad price, sometimes I stay at different services and it’s ranges between £13-15.
This reminded me that in Scarborough on Marine Drive you can stop on there in winter (think it's Nov-Jan) for free then it's less than £7 per night during the rest of the year. I'm local but it always seems to be popular!
This was a unique idea for a video, we took our campervan there, not to stay but did use their showers which were FREE despite not staying so that was great. Insanely expensive across the board in the shop/restaurant but we did admire a service station trying something completely different. For that alone it's worth a visit and great for picking up something special or a gift. Also, service stations are extortionate anyway, so if it's going to be that way, may as well go to town like this one!
We used have a touring caravan years ago we stayed over night on a motorway service station we had a truck pull up the side of us (late we were all in bed ) not long after we woke up all we could hear loudly was coo coo when my hubby went out to look the truck was full of pigeons we had no sleep all night lol
Another fantastic vlog Janine & Liam. Janine does an excellent job editing the video's. Gloucester Services looks like an awesome place. Love 🥰 the vlog and love 💕 Janine & ❤Liam.
Hello, thanks for the great video, we are going from Scotland to Glastonbury in August, we have not booked an overnight stay, so we will stay one night at the service station thanks to your video. Thanks. Greetings Ralf and Tina 👍👍🙋♂️🙋♀️
Looks very similar to the Tebay concept. Always like to pop in there when we’re passing. I checked to see we hadn’t missed a “we won the lottery” video 😂 £5 doesn’t go far does it at the services eh! The work booths looked very handy. You did right making the most of it, the meal looked delicious 😋 Another good one to checkout when we are next in the area. Thanks for sharing as very handy. Have a lovely weekend, All the very best, David & Rachel 👍
I prefer Tebay (same company) as you get to stay on a dedicated campsite area rather than the back of the car park and it’s very quiet. But yes Gloucester services about as nice as they get and I’ll go past other services to get there for the dog walk and the coffee.
We stop there on way to butlins Minehead , I remember stopping there when the wind was bad and had to evacuate butlins, but service station was closed !
Been here breakfast is delish, but the farm shop is expensive, I wanted to buy one of there family steak pies serves 4 small portions, I nearly cried when I seen the price £18, but the food did look fresh, 👍
@@ThoseHappyDays Hi Liam we went in early May to beat the crowds , we stayed in Lizard Point , we are retuning sometime in October however I have to check where my football Team are playing first . Love to Jan - Terry
They Say that the new services at rugby are fantastic and the best in the country although as I live in Rugby I've never actually been there. My favourite is killington southbound on the m6 from the Scottish border it's absolutely stunning there with views across the moors and killington water. A good one for you guys to stop at would be cairn lodge which is a private family run one on the m74 in Scotland, I think you can pay and stay for the night but I've never paid, the carpark is huge, it's reasonably quiet and nobody will bother you plus the service station has excellent toilet and shower facilities, I always stop of there for a sleep in the car when I'm off up to Scotland.
A bit of a costly one, but if it is a short term/one off thing and you need to then it looks nice enough! I enjoyed seeing all the produce and shopping local is always a really important thing, but I prefer camping in quieter places. Thanks and love to you both....welcome home! Lol! 🤪💜
We use Gloucester as a stopover whenever we go to Cornwall. It breaks the journey for us and ensures we're ahead of the pack in the morning. In fact we were there next door but one on that day in the Knaus. I'll agree its expensive, but I don't know if you noticed that they do an offer where the kids eat for £1 when an adult buys a meal. We had our great grandkids with us and had a meal for two adults and the kids, which came to around £24 less £5 so that was £18 for the 4 of us. A definite win for families. Happy travels.
Happy days, guys 23lbs. is like a bargain, here in the states that's only 30 bucks. A free shower +a 5$voucher, not bad, and no one to harass you at night. We don't have service stations with all those amenities like wifi etc. here in the states.Happy trails guys..
Yep I stayed there on the way back Yorkshire agree with all your comments, have the tried going to the wave near Bristol, good day out with a large car park!
Yes agreed, Gloucester Services are first class, yes expensive but you get what you pay for. Incidentally you may or may not know that Tebay Services on the M6 in Cumbria has the same system in place, owned by the same family who own Gloucester. BUT they've also got an actual campsite. We stayed there twice last month on our way to & from Scotland. £25 per night including EHU, grey & black waste disposal & fresh water. You also get a £3 food voucher. Campsite is in amongst trees on the northbound, also accessible from southbound. You'd never know you were just 1 minute off the motorway.
Absolutely enjoyed this RUclips, Matt! Since I am from Severna Park, MD, and still live in MD, I was wondering how a local boy ended up as a famous RUclipsr :). I can totally picture you as a kick-ass beer vendor!
Live not far from there and been in a couple of times for breakfast and a mooch, lovely views in the restaurant. But you are right very exspensive but worth going too and it is always busy in there xx
Reminds me of the Westmoreland services in Cumbria....really expensive too but has a good vibe :)...I love sesame seeds with teriyaki.. my go to emergency meal! Janine, its middle of June still not had my pins out!...you got great pins!.. Thanks guys saw you even made the effort to use the drone..what lovely souls you are xx
We always call at the Gloucester Services on our way south because as you said it is a treat, although an expensive one! I didn’t know you could stay over night there! Thanks for that❤
I do love that services. It's a breath of fresh air but yes, grabbing a couple of sarnies and hot drinks is easily £20....but then it is a service station- they are always expensive.
Only there yesterday travelling back home in our motorhome on southbound side. We always stop there. We like the dedicated motorhome caravan parking. Good place to stretch legs but farm shop is getting more expensive (like everything really).
We are thinking about stopping here overnight on route to cornwall from durham, with our caravan, but i think i might have to mayby have a plan b as apparently you carnt booked a park up , and knowing my luck it will be full when we arrive. Love your content
Haha, I live fifteen minutes up the road from Gloucester services, I remember driving past while the build progressed.... and I've still never stopped there. 😂 I guess the downside of having Britain's Best Services so close to home, when I have another, equally nice farm shop a five minute walk away, is I have zero reason to visit and wouldn't anyway as busy services and mobility equipment are a horrible combo. Does look great though, I can see why people would stop there!
Its a lovely service station indeed. Earplugs is a must😂 I get it about the petrol but it is due to the cost'involved. The other service stations are not so clean and energetically are very different. Its a bargain stay over and you get £5 to encourage you spend inside. Of course they cant give the meal away for free. They have overheads to cover and pay the farmers a fair wage for produce. Plus staff who work inside and out to keep the vibes. Loving the videos and showing how great the uk is❤
If you're trying to sleep in a place that has more noise try some Quies natural wax ear plugs, they only cost £5 for a pack of 8 and provide -27dB of noise reduction. Those and an eye mask are sleep essentials for me, they both make a big difference.
Hi great video as you always do. As ex truck driver , I’m not surprised at the cost of fuel or in the shop , but certainly a great place. Please. What were the liquids you put in your supper as o am trying to learn to cook in my RV for myself. Thanks
Greetings from Ireland! ☘️Brilliant video! The “ups and downs” of van life. You’ll love Ireland for sure. Look forward to following your journey here. If you are anywhere near the wonderful Armagh City area, there’s an open invitation to visit with us for a coffee or meal. You will be welcomed with open hearts. 😀👍❤️☘️
Very good timing, this video! We plan to stay there on our way back from Devon at the end of July. I’m hoping that if your camper fits in a normal space they will let you stay overnight there too.. And if that will be the same price. i don’t want to take up a massive space if I don’t need to … or pay over the odds 😁
I normally stop at motorway services only if I want a pee, with the exeption of Gloucester, the food is good but things are very expensive. Playing devil's advocate I'd guess the £5 voucher is to tempt you into the cafe to spend it and the extra money for a meal instead of cooking for yourself in your van. So it's basically £18 to camp next to a busy motorway.
Gloucester services and its sister services (Tebay Cumbria) are certainly a bit different to most other service stations and £23 with a £5 food voucher is a good price these days and handy if want a quick overnight hassle free stopover on long journey south (or north). But as you clearly said a few times their prices for food etc are way higher than most and at times some of the food (cooked and in shop) seems to be more style over substance.
