I really love how much of a refreshing idea this is to really get a good idea of Ben Parker as a character and exploring his relationship with Peter and friendship with Jonah. It truly fills me with joy seeing a Spiderman. Omic where Peter is genuinely happy with a family and going through his journey of what it means to be Spiderman. Genuinely one of the best comics we're currently getting
I swear to God that if they ruin Spidy this time and beat him down and break him, I'm dropping all of Spider man comics. I can't go through this anymore if they beat him down and break him anymore. Edit:I'm not saying I don't want him to have not suffer but stories that make him suffer for no actual reason like 1 more day
As someone who does not read spider comics, if there isnt any loss, trouble or major events that move the story forward (which tend to be negative stuff that the character can then grow or change from) what events would you extect the story to move forward with? This isnt sarcastic either, its a legitimate question. Like I understand Spiderman got a lot of terrible hands, but stories aren't built on perfect lives just going perfectly, something needs to give at some point to create drama, right?
One more day made me drop all the big 2 books I was reading in middle school and made me fully switch over to artist-owned stuff like Invincible and manga. This book having Pete and MJ together is making me reconsider that stance
I think it would be interesting if when ben finds out peter is spider-man ben is completely against the idea of it giving peter some heavy personal conflict, it would also be cool that the one who instrumental in peter becoming spider man is now a major obstacle for peter now
I’d like to believe May is his cannon event, or that this story is an upset to that concept entirely, I know that may be optimistic, but frankly, I love seeing Peter…just be happy, and the people he loves being happy, and I love seeing him being happy BEING Spider-Man. It’s been so long since I’ve seen Peter actually like being Spider-Man.
We can relax about the whole "Canon Event" thing. Miguel and his team basically stopped Gwen's Canon "Officer dies" event in the first scene of ATSV. The whole thing is a load of bull that Miguel came up with to try and rationalize the tragedy he faced in his life and other spiders adopted to 'better cope' with the tragedy in their lives as well.
You know there was a What-If comic where Aunt May was killed by the robber instead of Uncle Ben and Ben explains that Peter's way of dealing with the grief. I am saying this because even if someone dies be it Ben or Mary Jane, maybe because this is an older Peter who has had less trauma in his life, he might deal with everything differently.
If ben does find out i hope its a "yeah i know" not in the sense he literally deduced it but more in line of putting the pieces together ; and while worried for peter and his fam much like may has and he would also trust his nephew/ surrogate to use his gifts responsibly.
I feel like this peter is different in regards to canon events, I’d say that him getting the spider after it was stolen from him is his canon event, canon events are stated to be important parts of being Spider-Man, if aunt May wasn’t the canon event it would be getting the spider
Way back in the 90s Peter and MJ were going to have a baby and editorial balked and decided it “aged up” Peter too much. And since then it’s like they don’t know what to do with him. A writer would be like “what if Peter lived up to his potential?” and editorial rolls it back.
The only reason uncle ben dies is because peter is too immature to think about the consequences but since pete is an adult, it doesnt really need to happen
I don't know how you'd feel about this, but I have a feeling something will happen to Ben, but not in a senseless way, more like something that'll put Peter legitimately having issues with the Maker and his council, maybe Ben snoops around too much and gets too close and gets killed, they dangle it in front of Peter and mocks him with it, giving him to step up and figut against them Another twist that could happen, and bring some actually good drama, is have Richard become Venom, he fights his Dad constantly, fed lies by Gwen and maybe Harry, until his sister gets caught in the crossfire and he stops, realizing what he did and stays next to uer in the hospital, conflicted and thoughts swimming until he watches his dad fight on TV, and losing, deciding to step up and change, inspired by his family and his dad's efforts, the suit changes, going from the nightmarish Venom to the heroic Toxin, wanting to atone for his actions, swinging in and fighting alongside his dad You could even have the other Symbiotes be failed mass produced copies of his suit as well Overall I'm constantly excited and hyoed for this new universe, it's so good
There will undoubtedly be some loss Peter will have to go through, it's how stories work. There is always a price that needs to be paid, you can't keep others eyes on the story if everything is always going great. Now I doubt Ben will die soon nor do I think one of Peters kids will die. I think the loss that'll be the kicker for Peter is Harry turning on him. Every reader has had a slight suspicion of Harry, you can tell something is dark about him not to mention he's literally this universe's Green Goblin. Peter will be devastated once his first crime fighting partner sooner or later turns on him.
I sort of hope that this Spider-Man won't be subject to the known canon events because this universe as a result of the Makers actions has deviated so far from the rule. Basically these events happen so that there is some uniformity amongst Spider-men, some shared values or traits, but because of the Makers actions these events couldn't happen or happened in a different way. Like learning responsibility through being a father not by losing Uncle Ben. Basically this atypical Spider-Man would be subject to different rules or canon events because he wasn't able to enter the typical Spider-Man pipeline maybe leading to a timeline where Peter gets to stay happy.
Ben is the same as may. She the last thread hold back. They both represent his childhood and youth. Once they both go. Peter is forced to grow up for real. No backdown back to a child infront of may.
The thing about spider verse is that it’s reversing the whole predetermined fate thing, and showing a spider man taking his fate into his own hands. So all this comic has to do is stall until the third movie, and it can free Parker of the “curse” as it were
Still a no no good thing that aunt may died but I’m praying that she was the cannon event, I need Peter to be happy, it’s been too long since he has been
I mean...Miles defied the canon event so why can't this Peter? Though maaaaaaaan the other Spidey's are gonna turn into a goblin with how green they'll be for how good he has it.
Honestly i believe the cannon event is just bullcrap. A misunderstanding of that miguel, not realising his presence in a different universe may have created an incursion. If you fight crime long enough you will eventually lose one or several loved ones that will affect how you proceed into the future. Peter loses his uncle because of his decision of not doing anything out of spite and then his aunt may from his decision of revealling his identity to the public domain.
Canon events have always really irritated me, because when the multiverse is infinite, something like a canon event on principle cannot happen. If a multiverse is infinite, like Spiderverse, then everything has occurred in at least one universe, therefore meaning a canon event would be impossible.
Anything a movie has established by Disney in the last ten years marvel or star wars show be thrown out and considered an else world title with no long term story implications.
I hate the "Cannon Event" thing, it boxes in Spiderman for the people who aren't creative. It's the same bull that doesn't just let him have a family and a real life.
Have you picked up spectacular spidermen at all? The series intrigues me because it’s written by Greg Weisman, I just don’t know how well his writing translates from tv show to comic
I’m making a bet now Uncle Ben is going to die because either A. He’s standing up to kingpin, so he has to die B. Kingpin finds out peters identity and kills uncle Ben in order to get to spider-man C. Green goblin accidentally gets uncle Ben killed and HE ends up getting the power and responsibility speech
Dammit. Canon events ARE. NOT. REAL. I guarantee what we're going to see in the next spiderverse is that Miguel is WRONG about them and it's something like 'when one thing from one dimension spends enough time in another dimension it causes a collapse. visiting is fine, living there is not'. OR it'll just be spot's fault.
Honestly I dont see uncle ben being the one out. This entire comic run has thrived on suberting expectations and changing everything that was almost written in stone. Honestly i dont want any of thos characters to be the ones to take the fall. At this point it would be cheap.
There definitely will need to be conflict and tragedy otherwise there won't be any stakes. I just don't want another Spider-Man who cant hold on to anything nice. If a family member does get killed off it should be written in a way that the rest of the family is affected just as much as peter. The story needs consequences and that will require characters to suffer but peter and his family should go through it together. It should focus on the group rather than the individual. Kind of like some of the best xmen of f4 stories.
Yeah... the whole canon event crap is probably the dumbest shit ive ever seen in a narrative. Its lazy, insulting to the reader and reduces the entirety of the spiderman mythos to a cliche.

Uncle ben deserves this story we haven’t gotten nearly enough of him yet.
Not even Spider Ben gets this happy
Is kind of hard to get stories about Ben when his biggest contribution is to die.
He's essentially a plot device half the time.

Oh no, that’s the Editors. The writers are cheering that Spiderman can be happy.

I hate this because it’s absolutely correct.

I think outside of the loss of Aunt May, this is the best timeline Peter got in a long while. Lets hope it stays that way.
The point of spider verse was to say that canon events are BS.
Were canon events ever legit to begin with?

@Eldoofus I'm caught up on the run now, and I'm digging it
This story is much better then most comics spiderman has
Hopefully nothing ruins it 💀
This comic book finally did justice to spiderman and Ben
the biggest question is, how long will writers ignore their hate boner for Peter before they inevitably ruin his life with one hand.
Dude everything about this comic has been amazing. Seriously the best

imo a lil bit of tragedy is fine as long as all it does is cause some introspection from spidey and destroy his entire fucking life
