    According to lore, Uldum was also a jungle, but when the Tol Vir used the Forge of Origination to kill Lei Shen they basically nuked the area thus resulting in the desert we know today, so I would assume Tanaris was also affected.

      I’d be fair to assume the deluge of destruction killed the living soil and nutrients resulting in a ecological breakdown.. perhaps instantaneously.. or over many many years

      Un'goro must have survived because of its significant drop in elevation.

    Great and fun video.
    I'd like to add one more note to it.
    The silithid storyline is actually established for the first time in the Southern Barrens (for the Horde at least).
    This same chain then continues in the Shimmering Flats and then Feralas/Tanaris.
    I actually think it's a really good bit of foreshadowing that starts at level 20, and ends with the Ahn'Qiraj War effort and destruction of C'thun. It really makes the silithid feel very creepy, weird and dangerous.

    I believe it would be beneficial for Blizzard to have some geographical redesigns for the old world. For instance, consider these three deserts: the fine sand of Tanaris to the east, the rocky terrain of Silithus to the west, and the yellowish standard desert of Uldum to the south. In relation to this, I envision a mountain breach to the north of Un'Goro, causing the sea to transform Un'Goro into a salt lake with a volcano at its center. This Un'Goro salt lake would become the focal point connecting these three deserts, allowing for boat travel in-between. It could be represented as one large zone on the map, similar to modern expansions.
    Additionally, I would love to see similar redesigns for the rest of Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms, taking into consideration the concepts of dragonriding and solo-HC leveling challenges. These redesigns should also include updates to graphics, geography, lore-timeline, and questing.

    • @Jediwarlock

      That's an interesting idea... I love it! A time skip is something I think a lot of people were hoping for before/after Shadowlands and Dragonflight... it would give the developers a chance to refresh the world without having to push forward with a clunky storyline and keep with the same characters expansion after expansion. :)

    If there were seas or larger pools of water in the zone before, they've probably been clogged by deposition of sedimentary rocks by the process of erosion. Also Sand is made by the mineral Quartz. The goblins making wells and tapping out of the ground water reservoirs would only have worsened the vegetation and life thus making the landscape even drier. I don't know if there is sandstone in the zone but that would make one of the most common rocks in the zone sedimentary rocks. Love these wow videos!

    • @Jediwarlock
      @Jediwarlock  Год назад

      Love the thoughts! While it's difficult to find sandstone examples naturally in the world here... think about the troll architecture! ;) I'm thinking that is definitely some type of sandstone. Your ideas on deposition are spot-on... more episodes on the way!

    It makes total sense that Tanaris would have once been a Jungle. With Un'Goro Crater nearby, it wouldn't be too far off to assume that Un'Goro, Tanaris, and Uldum were once connected as one large jungle.
    Many zones in classic share the similar storyline of multiple separated zones once being one larger area. I believe at one point, Darkshore and Felwood were once the northern part of Ashenvale but as corruption spread, the zones were split. Even Westfall and Duskwood were part of Elwynn forest (although I think Duskwood was still separate, as Brightwood, but it still looked the same as Elwynn). Then of course there's the entire upper half of Eastern Kingdoms. Tirisfal, Silverpine, Hillsbrad, Alterac, and the Eastern/Western Plaguelands were all one zone as Lordaeron.
    It really interests me to find out what a "corrupted" or ruined area once was. They really put thought into how affected some areas were and how to separate them, rather than just mish-mashing zones together and calling it a day. Added lore really makes the zones feel more connected, too - even if they look different from each other. Although imagine if they made a WoW expansion that was a prelude to vanilla WoW, with all of these areas still intact. I'd definitely explore a pre-third war Lordaeron.

      @Jediwarlock  Год назад +1

      Thank you so much for the thoughtful comment! I enjoyed reading it. Azshara is one of the most interesting examples to me (I made a WoW Rocks video on it last summer) since it's this shattered beach landscape that used to be right in the heart of the Highborne empire... the autumn trees and colors are not natural and were instead created magically by the elves. Even thousands of years later you can see the enchantment at work, but with the landscape utterly broken something feels "off" about the forests.

    • @Opalline14
      @Opalline14 Год назад +1

      @@Jediwarlock Woah, I wasn't expecting a response! I'm glad you enjoyed the read. I've only had the opportunity to explore Azshara post-Cataclysm when it was used as a Goblin leveling zone. I remember questing right by this lake next to elven ruins. The ghosts there really packed a punch from what I remember. I always wondered if the place was also a victim to corruption like Felwood and Darkshore.
      In a lot of ways, the zone also reminded me a little bit of Quel'Thalas. I remember asking in trade chat why Quel'Thalas looked so autumn-like even though it was roughly on the same latitude as Winterspring. I got many troll responses, of course, but there were a few people that answered saying elven magic/enchantments were the cause. It's interesting to find out the Night Elves did the same thing in Azshara, but it makes a lot of sense.

    Haven't started watching yet but im going to assume you're doing this from the perspective of a fresh set of analytic eyes trying to decipher just what happened to Tanaris. Ignoring all that we know is key to this. Just because you can describe it like a wiki article doesn't mean you should.
    Edit: good on ya, i like this format of lore. Always knew it had to be a jungle prior, ungoro crater is also a great zone. Very easy to get lost because there are no roads and not enough distinct landmarks in the inner ring. So youll think youre going to marshalls refuge but really youre south of fire plume ridge because you just passed it.
