"... I try to give that to people. I misrepresent things to them. I don't tell the truth. I tell what ought to be the truth." Blanche DuBois, the first social media influencer/ public figure.
It goes a looooooooooong way further back than that. The technology has made it so anyone can have their hand on the light switch, but somebody or other always has. Why do I try to have my hand on it now?
So simplistic. Blanche is a poet, not some random housewife becoming an influencer because she makes videos of how she restocks her fridge. Have some respect for Tennessee Williams please.
Gillian Anderson raised the bar for Blanche, particularly the drunken parts. And the rotating set helped with the voyeuristic voyage. But Anderson's considerable comic chops were put to good use in Tennessee's tragedy on Elysian Fields Avenue ...
Strongly disagree. Actresses taking on the role all too often scream for the rafters and forget what actual humans sound like (same problem with Vivian Leigh). Give me Cate Blanchett over this anyway (again, after seeing her live, and frankly, after seeing her in Woody Allen's affectionate tribute in BLUE JASMINE).
SO GOOD. Yes I'm looking through a veil a Gillian Anderson Fangirlism, but I saw it live and it was legit one of the best experiences I've ever had. I felt for Blanche so much, she truly brought her to life for me.
I loved seeing it live and I cannot wait to see it recorded. She absolutely nailed it which is not easy when you have the shadow of Vivien Leigh hanging over you. I see them as two equally exquisite versions of a character, both bringing different facets to Blanche.
Blanche Dubois is the anti-hero in the play. Tennessee Williams characterised her as a woman with a narcissistic personality disorder who uses alcoholism as a coping mechanism to forget the guilt she carries from her past.
A shattering production - Anderson may be one of the four or five best actresses working today - every time I see her she's totally different, and at the same time electrifying and original - her Blanche was genuinely shocking - and in House of Mirth IMO her work is up there with Falconetti or Gish - it's hard for her to find roles worthy of her

This scene always turns me into tears

I didn’t know that Gillian played Blanche in A Streetcar Named Desire on stage. She is outstanding. Thank you for uploading these clips.
Well done. Only need watch a minute to feel the pain. It's authentic, compelling and heart breaking. Damn.
She is just....amazing.

Hello, did you have any luck finding it ? I've been trying to view it for 2 weeks, but failing miserably
Is there a way I can get a copy of the full recording?
Love Gillian Anderson but Jessica Lange and Vivien Leigh have it all over this!
WHERE IS THE FULL SHOW? I’m going crazy trying to find it.
Sorry man it got taken off yesterday :(
All she did was yell....I still prefer Vivian:)
Gillian sure is acting!
Buen drama
Wow, definitely not a person with an actual southern accent. Eek that’s lousy, I can barely understand her.
@maureen Simpson don't be a hater dear, it's very middle class
this play is a blessing
I'm not a native English speaker and understood every word. Maybe you should practice your listening comprehension skills more then.
The accent is ridiculous
Ughhh just horrible acting.
Exactly. It’s atrocious
I hated this production. All she does is yell.
