I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE! Chicken roosting oddity.

  • Raising chickens for years has been a joy. Many chicks have been hatched on the farm by broody hens. Always the hens have kept the chicks warm at night in a flat nest low to the ground. For the first time ever I have seen 2 week old chicks roosting over 5 feet in the air on a roosting bar but still tucking in under the mother hen for warmth. ‪@FlanaganHomestead‬

    Mine do that, only certain breeds, the more flighty ones. Never the silkies 😂 And our peacocks go even higher given the chance.

    Good lord, man. Scrape your roosting bars. Those droppings contain nasty microbes and probably mites.
    Or, consider sticking to what you know, christmas trees.

      I knew that comment was coming. I admittedly have been busy with other projects and let that accumulate. On my list of things to get done. I considered taking it out of the video but I like to present the truth of what is happening when you have a full time job and trying to keep up with a homestead and a Christmas tree farm as well.
