From what I've heard and seen, WW 84 is very similar to the Sam Rami Spider Man flicks and Batman Forever (cheetah and Jim Carey's riddler). Therefore Roger's opinion on WW84 would probably be the same as his reaction to those films. He gave thumbs down to all of them except Spider Man 2.
@@mattm6580 not even close to those films. WW84 was so different as a heroine film. There wasn't even a villian to hisss at. Ebert would've given it a thumbs up based on the fact WW84 didn't follow traditional DC hero films. I liked it myself.
There are a lot of modern movies Roger didn't live to see that I wish we could've gotten his take on. I remember when Gene died, Roger expressed with regret that he'd been looking forward to seeing The Phantom Menace, because they both loved the Star Wars movies, but Gene never got the chance. Then Roger himself died before he got the chance to see the sequel trilogy. I have a feeling he would've liked those movies, having read a ton of Roger's reviews over the years. This was almost exactly my reaction to the Wish soundtrack; I just need to replace the word “movie” with “soundtrack” but other than that it’s totally apt
I first saw the preview for North before I ever saw any review of it, let alone Roger’s famously negative one. Based on my initial reaction to the preview, I thought, looks pretty good. Roger got the fame for his negative review, I think mostly because of his repetition of the word ‘hated.’ But, many many other professional movie critics were very unkind to North. Honestly, so much so that I lost my initial interest in seeing it. I still have never seen it, but I might look it up. I did want to see it, and now have an additional semi-morbid curiosity. I never understood why North got so much hate. I fucking loved it when I was a kid. I haven't seen it since 1998, but i doubt I will change my mind so drastically if I gave it another watch.
I hope someone can help me out on the following question a long time ago there was a documentary called the far north what are the legend of Amaluk about the eskimos in the far north it was financed by Lorne Greene otherwise known as Ben Cartwright of the Ponderosa does anyone know if he ever reviewed this documentary if he didn't he missed something truly special thank you

To be honest, I think The Thing was released at a bad time due to the film ET. I mean, they were opposites on what mankind would encounter if it did contact extraterrestrial life.
The movie he is talking about is North. Roger was famously horrified by that film, and the film is now best known because of his review. This clip is specifically from the worst of 94 episode of Siskel & Ebert.
As a child I loved North and everything the movie represented, as an adult I have the same feeling about it as he does. What I take from this is, some movies are certainly intended to spark children's imagination in a way that works for their brains. Hahah
This is how I felt when watching three films: Schumacher's BATMAN AND ROBIN, David Lynch's DUNE and that old FLASH GORDON film from the 1970s or 1980s. I know that those movies have some fan base; however, I couldn't stand either. I was left scratching my head when I watched them.
