I saw photos of Roger Ebert when he was battling cancer and after his jaw was removed, but this is the first time I have seen him interviewed in that condition, nearly a decade after it was filmed. It was sad to see him this way, but it was very touching to see what a loving relationship he had with his wife, who was very supportive and dedicated to him.

Roger Ebert is the single biggest reason why I became a movie buff. I started reading his reviews in the '90s and he, over time and with great patience, taught me how to appreciate a good film. He was also incredibly giving to the internet film community, communicating with anyone back in the Compuserve days (1995) of the net. This back & forth eventually lead to me being lucky enough to be quoted in two of his books. Keep it up Roger!!

He and Gene Siskel revolutionized the way people viewed film criticism. The two of them brought unique and contrasting perspectives to their show, but were similar in their love of film and viewpoint that film is a serious medium that conveys views of the times at hand and society at large throughout the years. He tirelessly watched and reviewed films and wrote on the nature of cinema and art until his last moments. That is why he is famous.

If you're familiar with everything Roger Ebert did, it's hard to dislike him. Sure, you're going to disagree with some of his views on particular movies, but if that's a reason to hate a man then who in the world can anyone love? Because nobody agrees on everything. Overall he defended the rights of filmmakers to make the films they wanted to make. He was well-spoken and interesting to listen to if you ever heard him give any kind of talk outside of his role as a movie critic.

How does it feel to still be trolling Ebert videos in 2019? Seriously, reflect on yourself for a brief moment. Honestly, tell me how it feels to still be spamming these vids. Imagine all the positivity you could've brought to the world had you focused that energy towards something productive. Most people have finished college or found career paths in six years. I don’t know much about this guy ,but the comments posted about him were very disgusting. No one should wish anything bad on anyone, because you don’t know what’s your destiny.. There’s a saying that goes, “If you live in a glass house don’t throw stones”, and another one says, If you are digging a pit , dig two because one day you are going to fall in it too. So never wish bad for anyone or rejoice over one’s downfall because God rewards everyone for the good or the bad they have done. At least he is happy with his family who loves him for who he is and he doesn’t make his looks bother him or discourages him. Be loving , be sympathetic and treat people the way you would like to be treated if you were in that position.

    a. you don’t have to like ebert. but it’s so unnecessary to call him and “it”. he was a human being.
    b. the “he failed at writing so he can’t judge”’is a lame argument. most of the people calling his work crap probably have never tried themselves, so by their own logic, how can they judge his stuff?
    c. somebody who can’t cook can tell if food tastes like shit or if it tastes good. similarly, you don’t need to be a successful film maker to have opinions on films or to be able to tell what is of quality and what isn’t.
