Wooo happy you're joining in too! The theme seems like a perfect fit for you. Some excellent covers in the mix as well.
Awesome selections for July! I cant wait to hear your thoughts!
Sounds like some good reads. I'll certainly be reading for Giallo July, too. It's the perfect excuse to continue with The Milano Quartet.
There's two more Highsmith novels, her last Ripley book and Little g, her final novel. I really like Found in the Street, which I consider as having more of a vintage Highsmith feel to it than most of her late stage novels. I hope you like it.
I had a look through my older mysteries and pulled some possibilities:
Maigret and the Saturday Caller (yellow on cover), Georges Simenon
Ride the Pink Horse, Dorothy B. Hughes
The Mad Hatter Mystery (yellow on cover), John Dickson Carr
Woman Slaughter, E.X. Ferrars
Frequent Hearses, Edmund Crispin
The Blue Hammer, Ross Macdonald
The Golden Spiders, Rex Stout
Dead as a Dinosaur, Frances & Richard Lockridge
The Whistling Hangman, Baynard Kendrick
Headless Lady, Clayton Rawson
The Black Angel, Cornell Woolrich
Murder for Madame, Lawrence Lariar
Jack on the Gallows Tree, Leo Bruce
The Red Right Hand, Jack Townsley Rogers
Benighted, J.B. Priestley
The Screaming Mimi, Frederic Brown
Well The Screaming Mimi is perfect since that book inspired Bird with the Crystal Plummage
This sounds like a fab event. I love The Red House Mystery. Maybe time for a reread 😊
So glad to see Queenpin! Such a gem. Also so cool to see an actual real-life Italian mondadori! 🔪😱 Bert
Really looking forward to Queenpin!
Looks like a wonderful TBR! So glad you got a copy of Letters to the Purple Satin Killer! And yay for the t-shirt 🔪🩸
The shirt is fantastic - you did a great job!
The movies based on Edgar Wallace novels were incredibly successful in Germany. My complete blu-ray boxset has 34 movies on it (and of course it is not complete). As a teenager I read a handful of the novels and liked them. Wallace also incorporated horror elements every once in a while.
Excellent TBR. I’m looking forward to reading some true crime for Giallo July. 🔪 Cool t-shirt! 💛
It's such a great t-shirt, great design!
Giallo July, eh? Might this be a GarbAugust preface? Good luck with this event!
Enjoy your reads!
Giallo July sounds intriguing, wonder if there are certain books published under that format which influenced the movies that followed more than others. I think The Bird with the Crystal Plumage & Deep Red are the best giallo movies by a distance but your video reminded me that I've got blu rays of A Lizard in a Woman's Skin & the Suspiria remake that I've never got around to watching. Also i think someone commenting on one of your disturbing books videos mentioned the movie Berberian Sound Studio which is actually about a sound technician working on a giallo
I’m still processing 2020 and you’re here discussing your TBR. Good luck in July!
The Red House Mystery is worth a read especially for anyone who likes old locked room mysteries. I liked Dark Matter better than Recursion but both were good. I haven't read any Ed McBain books but am planning to try one based on your recommendations.
No I'm doing my own event - War and Sports books July. 🤭
I jumped ahead and started Recursion the other day. Almost done. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!!!
Hope you enjoyed it!
I reallt enjoyed June on the Range, but I miss supernatural horror. I think I'll skip this event and read some spookies instead... or maybe read more Westerns. 🤣
I got my Giallo July t-shirt a week or so ago and was really impressed with the quality. I'm going to continue my long-term project of working my way through the Ellery Queen novels. Curious about the Milne novel.
Oh that sounds like a cool project!
