I am actually considering writing about my recent experiences overcoming opiate dependency, and how (amongst other things) BICEP's music has been of critical importance in ensuring my recovery, through providing a sense of meaning and negating any thoughts of nihilism which arise... Very hard to justify thinking that there is no point in battling to go on living when you don't know (for instance) when BICEP are next releasing something or announcing a show you can go to. If I had fallen victim to my dependence, and given up on recovery, I wouldn't have got to experience Meli (II), or the reworks of classic songs that they have recently introduced to live sets that I've heard online...
I love music and BICEP's work (especially the live Printworks version of Orca, as well as Aura, Glue, Meli (I) +(II), and X) is the ultimate example of how music can give someone meaning beyond just filling time with sound...
I am very happy that I have committed to recovery, and that I am now over a year free of opiate dependence (which started five years ago with a prescription to deal with an injury sustained whilst snowboarding in Whistler and which morphed into an unforgiving and brutal all-encompassing dependence where I was on the edge of self-caused death for a long time).
Now I am studying to become an addiction counsellor, and aim to specialise in helping people who are overprescribed opiates in overcoming their addiction...
Long story short, BICEP's music means more to me than I can even put into words (even though I will write massively verbose passages in attempting to), and has helped me through the darkest of moments...
