- Unlocking the Secrets of Led Zeppelin’s Sound
The Soul of Zeppelin was founded by award-winning composer, guitarist and educator, Carl Baldassarre. During COVID, Baldassarre had a vision to handpick superb musicians and a compelling lead vocalist that could unlock the secret of Led Zeppelin’s sound. The secret of Led Zeppelin’s sound is hidden in the band’s influences: which includes blues, funk, soul, swing, jazz, R&B, rock, and classical music. Like Led Zeppelin, The Soul of Zeppelin plays Led Zeppelin’s greatest songs while channeling the band and their influences.
As a highly acclaimed guitarist/connoisseur of Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin, Baldassare has a vast knowledge of Led Zeppelin’s history which he shares during each show to enhance the experience.
The result is not an imitation or a caricature, but a living musical experience of the magic of Led Zeppelin in a presentation like nothing else in the world.
Featuring:
MARCUS SCOTT - vocals (Tower of Power)
NICK D'VIRGILIO - drums (Tears for Fears, Genesis, Big Big Train, Spock’s Beard, Cirque du Soleil)
CARL BALDASSARRE - guitars (Syzygy, Abraxas, BALDASSARRE)
and Special Guests:
JACOB DUPRE - keys (Glenn Miller Orchestra, Artist in Residence - Sweetwater Sound)
AL ROLIK - bass (Syzygy, Led Zeppelin Revival)

My ears loved every note, stroke, and beat.
Carl Baldassarre and his band has got to be some of the coolest people on earth. Carl, you are so self respecting and educational. I watch everything you put out here on RUclips and listen to everything that you say. A lot of your musical knowledge is above my understanding at this moment but you inspire me to pick up my guitar and often play Led Zeppelin tunes and the other bands that you dissect and examine. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, experience and talent.
Such a kind and generous comment. Thank you so much!
Just brilliant! As a Zep fan of 40+ years, I am very impressed at the musicality of these players. What a wonderful way to keep the sound of Zep alive. Well done!
I was at this show. I'm telling you, this lead singer (Marcus Scott) must have went to "Crowd Pleasing School" cuz this guy knew how to work an audience! He was genuine, funny, humble, and his set of pipes were amazing, he got the crowd into it...the band was absolutely fantastic!
Thank you! Yeah, all these cats are incredible and Marcus is unbelievable!
@@CarlBaldassarreMusic I was hoping for some videos of you playing live with your band. Really top playing from everybody there. I didn't know Nick plays in a band with you. I watch his demo videos all the time. He is a pro player for sure and done alot of studio work
I play in a cover band - and one time after a Big Tower of power show at a casino, Marcus came inside the casino and saw our band playing at the bar haha. He asked to play a set with us! The dude got the whole casino into it- totally owned the stage and directed a band he never met with such amazing creative energy. He’s a special one for sure
Nick is not only one of the greatest pro drummers he’s also one of the greatest guys you’ll ever meet! Same for each of these guys.
Then you know how powerful it feels to play behind Marcus. It’s hard to explain, but you get it. He’s incredible singer, entertainer and friend. I’m blessed!
Bloody brilliant!
Move the feet move! Love this!
Super nice!
Brilliant 👍
Very cool 😎
Blown away. This brought me such joy. Thank you.
Thanks Carl! A real treat!
Sounds great Carl its got the Soul keep up the great work 👍
Again Wow! You did it again Carl! Impressive. Cheers.
That was superb!
Thank you!
Nick is a hell of a drummer. Good group of musicians together here.
Amen and amen!
Great cover! Funky!
Great version! What an intro!
Funky vibes! You guys did it again 👏 🙌 ❤️
Thank you! This band is so hot!!
That first break got me hooked. Good singing, too
This is RAD! Love it!
Led funk zeppelin...like it man👍👍
That is a seriously cool version of this classic. Great job
Thank you!
Bravo Carl!
지리고 갑니다 ㅜㅜ
World class musicians!!! Keep it going.
Thank you!!
Oh man I gotta see this live
You guys are AMAAAAAAAAAAAAZING! Damn! Much love from Canada.
Much love back at you!
Am I the only that hears a transition into “Long Train Runnin” especially with the 🎶talkin bout love!🎶
It’s in that zip code!
What a great band!
Thank you!
Excellent work, as usual, Carl! I'm a child of the 60s and Zep were MY band....your covers make me smile 🙂
Yay! That’s great to hear!!
Absolutely wondrful version...so true to the spirit of the song and yet, you made it your own in many ways.
Love this comment. Hits the mail on the head!!
Guitarist looks so cool
I love how you guys OWN this music, especially the singer! Hats off to you!
We’re definitely making it our own!
Markus Scott is in my view the best Zep singer since the young Robert Plant.....very good....love it......more please....❤
Grate cover Carl, Hell of a singer.
Marcus Scott is phenomenal!!
Yeah Baby, leds go! Thanks Carl you the man when it comes to Zepp.
Thank you!
FUNky! Love the Superstition Tail!❤Love the celebration of the music!
Nice cover
Cool 😎
Excellent funky version bringing two classic songs together. A lot of folks tend to forget how much Led Zeppelin built on blues and soul music.
Amen!!!!!!
That’s why we call our project the soul of zeppelin. We’re not trying to be an “exhibit” or parody/imitation of the band. We’re improvising our way through the music bringing our soul, funk, blues, classical and jazz influences/training to it. Just like they did!!
Soo cool , guys !!! One of the funkiest music from Led Zep ! Loved it !
They were hardly just a rock band. So much funk, soul, blues, R&B, swing and classical. Most people don’t get that and that’s why lots of imitators can’t get it. They think they’re imitating a rock band. But unless you understand all the musical influences behind the music, you’ll never be able to capture the right vibe!!!
Absolutely ! Absurdly creative band. All great talented musicians. And by the way, so are you guys !
WOW!!!!!
I just now discovered you guys. Bravo! Excellent performance, individually and collectively! I'm absolutely blown away by this singer/frontman extraordinaire. Viewed, liked, and subscribed...
Yay! Thank you so much! Yes, Marcus Scott is absolutely brilliant!
very good singer
Marcus Scott!! He’s incredible! I’m blessed to work with him!
Great version of a classic. Tight, funky, soulful band, amazing vocals and guitar. Zeppelin "borrowed" this from Robert Johnson's Terraplane Blues, you guys are "Bringing It On Home" very nicely indeed. 😎👍
Thank you! That was our plan, to show the influences that actually inspired and shaped each member of zeppelin before they were led zeppelin! And as you say bring it on home.
Whoa, funky, love it. Hats off to you guys and the video production team.
I was there ( Carl, Al (bass) and I are good friends). There were cameras everywhere. Believe it or not, This was only the 2nd time they ever played together (this show was in Cleveland), the 1st time was the night before in Ft. Wayne Indiana. If your interested check out Syzygymusic1 on RUclips, for some of Carl and Al's older stuff.
@@ertlk24 thanks for the back story.
Thank you!!
I love the Intervalic , Harmonic voicing's you guys snuck in there!... Great work! ♥!!
Thank you my golden eared friend!
@@CarlBaldassarreMusic it's amazing I hear anything at all.. I'm almost completely deaf!
Yes, yes, YES!
WOW.
Wow, just wow! Very cool band, this one looks fun...
Loads of fun! I had no idea Marcus was going to drop the Stevie act on us. I was just hanging for dear life!!
@@CarlBaldassarreMusic Your many decades of experience (sorry 'bout that 'ol buddy), allows you to fool the keenest eye. It looks like the time of your life up there. You and the band made it look fully rehearsed and fleshed out.
Quickly becoming my favourite you tube channel 🎼🎸👍
Thank you! Please share so we can build visibility!!
Molto molto bella
That was one funky version of "Trampled Under Foot" I've ever heard! I think George Clinton himself would have been proud. Along with Stevie Wonder, mainly because the keyboardist was channeling some serious "Superstition" vibes right from the start. One of my favorite tunes of "Physical Graffiti", mainly because there is a lot going on with this song. I especially loved the way Page just went off on the guitar as Plant sung the lyrics. Who does that today?
Thank you!!
It is a very funky song my man
Excellent to the infinity power!!! Man, these cats in UNISON can ROCK!!!!!! What an experience!!!!! Coming to Lorain Sept 30th!!!!!! See you then!!!!!!
Funky as hell !!! Push. Push. Push...🔥🔥🔥
LOve the transition into and out of superstition. Works really well. Both such funky songs. Well done.
We didn’t know Marcus was going to do that! They fit naturally. That’s why the chemistry and talent of my band is truly close to the soul of Zep: improvise, take chances and follow your influences through the framework of the songs each night. Peace, Carl
The best around.
Thank you sir!!
Really cool version! I like where you guys took this iconic song.
It was all spontaneous! We had no idea where Marcus was going!
You’re right !!! Led Zeppelin were actually Cool and the Gang in disguise
Please come to Louisville, Ky!!
Love to! Which venues can go 300-1000 seats?
That's what I'm talkin' about. Zeppelin's mighty funk with a healthy dose of Stevie. Sweet.
This singer ( whisper it low) he is a notch up on Percy. Thanks, Carl, for making an old git real happy 😅
Ever planning on touring the UK? Would love to watch this live!
We’d love to! If you know of any booking or PR contacts that would be interested, send them my way. We’d come there in a heartbeat!
Singer is such a great fit for a song like this, so much funk. I also dug the guitar solo, felt like it was straight out of a live version of TUF.
Thank you! So happy you dig us!
Nice. A RUclips guitarist that’s actually a talented performing musician! Excellent job!
Thank you. Means a lot! I take pride in being able to “walk the talk.”
My favourite Zep track, what a groove it's like Zep are being Tower of Power with 3 musicians!. When they played this live they didn't have a bass player but it still sounded awesome.
Zep is greater than even the biggest fans can comprehend! Unsearchably deep.
Oh, wow. Thanks for the info. I always thought that JPJ, while playing the keyboard, used bass pedals. Now I know differently. Thanks again.
As a hard core zep fan came in negative, left loving it Great job!!!
Yeah! Best comment yet!
Please subscribe! It means a lot!
@@CarlBaldassarreMusic Done!!
Once again awesome!! Where can I go see you guys perform???
Hi James! We’re doing a couple of shows in the Midwest end of September and October 1st.. Go to www.carlbaldassarremusic.com or check Facebook for the Soul of Zeppelin.
Brilliant... and that from someone who saw Zeppelin several times ..... .....only comments would be I'd like to hear that first line a bit more prominently.... "Greasy slicked down body .... .groovy leather trim ......I like the way you hold the road, mama it ain't no sin......."
Those are amazing lyrics!!
Man, what a banging version of that track! Just amazing.
I can't wait to get to some of the songs further down that set list. The Ocean is my favorite Zep track, and The Crunge is clearly going to be mind blowing!
Carl, are there any plans on releasing a dvd or similar? Maybe after you wrap up the Australian tour?
We can only hope!
Holy Underfoot Batman! Great cover Carl! Tone, groove and a little superstition for good measure. 👍🏻
Amazing! Do you think you’ll come to England?
Gosh I’d love to. Please hook us up with a booking agent!
Great sound, great vocalist and you even managed to get Donald Fagen to moonlight on drums ...well he does look a bit like him🤣
🤣 Love the Donald Fagan reference... Classic!
Cool arrangement and the singer is absolutely unreal. So much better than the wig-wearing tribute guys !
Thank you! We only care about fresh interpretation, not imitation. We want it to be improvised each night and imbued with swing, jazz, blues, funk and rock.
@@CarlBaldassarreMusic absolutely feel it. Dig your style too. BTW Carl - I'm not sure how to link it here, but if you go to Siccas Guitar YT channel... I think you will appreciate their most recent video
Carl, that was so incredible!!Was that the July 2nd show in Cleveland?🎼Awesome to see again 😊
Yes!
Carl love your videos and the band ...what is the effect pedal that you are using at the 4:18 mark.....sounds fantastic.....got to have one.
Ha! So glad you like! I’m using a mini cry baby wah and have a nice delay setting on my source audio Nemesis delay pedal and a touch of reverb on my source audio Ventris reverb pedal! Add in the playing technique so that you play along with the effects in a responsive way so it all works together. Thanks for asking.
@@CarlBaldassarreMusic Thanks Carl...keep the videos coming !! Old guy here that got to see Zeppelin on Bonzo's birthday May 31st 1977 in NC....will never forget it.😎
Thank you for your GREAT PERFORMANCE❗❗😍😍
If possible plz my ZEP cover too👍👍😊😊
Great cover and Zeppelin vibe! Enjoyed the Superstitious medley. Was this filmed live? Don’t see any film crew and/or camera’s … great edits!
Oh very live in front of a very live audience!!!! 10 cameras rolling and multitrack audio. There was nowhere to hide!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Keep 'em coming Carl! What does "Destroy All Miles" mean? Is that a call for us to go metric? :)
Is everything well? There have not been videos in some time
Yes. I’ve just fallen behind doing live shows. I hope to be posting new episodes in a couple of weeks. Thanks for caring:) xo
I figured “Trampled under Foot” would be played by the “Sole of Zepatos”
Carl, do you guys tour near NJ/NY? Or do I need to go to Cleveland?
If you can spread the word we’re for looking for a booking agent to make an east coast swing happen!! Would love yo come if we can put a string of shows together on the Ny/Nj area!
I thought I seen you were playing in toledo ohio, Sept 29th at prime nightlife? Now it isn't listed? 🤷♂️
We’ve had to postpone that show! We’ll get back there! We’ll be at the Lorain Palace theatre (Lorain, Ohio) on Friday September 30th and the Club Room at the Clyde (Fort Wayne) Saturday, October 1st.
Can you PLEASE do a Composer reacts to Over The Hills and Far Away? I think that song deserves a full analysis. Be SURE to mention the licks at the very ending of the track on the album version. Nobody online has discussed this moment (starts at around 4:06).
I’ll have a look!
Fantastic! When you going on tour?
Working on it. Share the vid to anyone who can sponsor or book and we’ll go!
@@CarlBaldassarreMusic I shared the video to my Facebook. I know a place at Pensacola Beach, Florida called "The Dock" who would more than likely book you. I will contact them and ask... more to follow.
Get down Big Daddy and rock us :)
Ready and willing to keep rocking! Papa Carl needs a booking agent to see the light and help us bring this on the road!
Yes, that's the way we like it :) I gotta good feeling all your wishes will come true :)
From your lips to gods ears! May it be so! Thank you!!!
I‘ve been wondering about the certain something that seems to be missing from Carl‘s solos, and now I think I‘ve got it - he‘s not doing the Jimmy Page duck lips.
Needs a bit more swing and shuffle. Drums are just marking time. But sounds really good .
I’m glad you like! The swing is always present either express or implied but always there. You can’t play this music without it. That’s why when people try to “cover” the material it’s always lacking something because they’re often playing straight eighth notes and don’t realize that there’s an implied bounce to get to the soul of zeppelin!
What's the effect @ 4:18?
Delay
@@fincorrigan7139 Was hoping for something a lil more specific lol 😆 🤣
my guess is he is using a wah pedal in addition to the delay to make it sound like that
@@beembuu You're right he is using a wah Ok and I think it's a reverse delay. Its a pity we can't see what's happening on his pedal board for absolute confirmation
For starters… Marcus Scott laid healing hands on me, so that filled me with the spirit of Jimmy Page and all weeping bends a man can muster. Second…a crybaby mini wah pedal and a nice delay setting on my source audio nemesis delay pedal. Third: a great band setting a great groove behind me! :)))) thanks for watching! Please share…we need to break this band wide open! No one else is interpreting zeppelin’s soul. We’re not “imitating” them, we’re reinterpreting them fresh every night.
Keys qworky
great vocals. And he moves better than Plant!
Marcus can really move!!
The drummer is super weak not hitting the grove like BONZO at all.
Crank it up!
Butchered terrible.
Sorry it didn’t trip your trigger!
I am sure none of you listened to the original. They sucked the zeppelin out of context in this fiasco. I am tied to this song so emotionally and the whole Album is so Elegant and Profound you just Do NOT Cover Zeppelin.
I'm not sure that you understood Led Zep. What a shame.
Well there goes 50 years of dedicated listening, studying and playing zeppelin …down the drain. Sorry it wasn’t for you! But I truly appreciate you watching and I hope you’ll give it at least one more try!
Peace,
Carl

Carl I am 72 I lived one mile away from Jimmy Page’s house on Miles Road in Epsom south of London for 2 years I saw him in his Jaguar and Bristol Cars 100s of times and waved to him 100s of times and I swear that if I ever missed my morning bus to college he would have given me a lift in those cold mornings. I also lived in west Wittering West Sussex England near the Stones mansion and one mile from the summer retreats of Nick Mason Eric Clapton David Bowie and 10s more I went to school and college in the south of England for 6 years between 1972 and 1978 and seeing all those rockers daily was just more than normal.
Awful! I can't believe the comments praising this poor cover version. Weak, thin, corny and cheap sound as though they're playing on a Casio toy keyboard.
I’m sorry this wasn’t what you hoped. You’d probably like the jam later in the video and a few of the other non clav numbers we did. Hope you give us a 2nd look! Peace.
@@CarlBaldassarreMusic I wasn't HOPING for anything... you showed up in my feed somehow so I gave it viewing. It wasn't good and I said so... so no thanks on giving you a 2nd look because based on this, I WON'T like the jam or other songs.
@@squatch570 it's a great version and you need to stop being so mean
man where have i been, this rocks like a mother fucker period.
Phukked up the flow, bad bad show, had to stop at less than a minute.
Sorry it failed so miserable for you. I’d be interested to know if any of the other live show songs on my channel are any better in your estimation.
