Isn’t the clutch hub on these supposed to be pressed on? Only ask because I’m working on taking my basket off and that mofo is stuck on there and from what I can find in the manual and online, you need a tool to pull it off. Might be why it failed! If it wasn’t on there far enough that key could have fallen out or gotten dislodged.
From what I’ve learned about it the dealer told me that everyone over torques them and it splits the top of the keyway. (like this one) and then its over it just walks off the tapered shaft. probably just putting them on with an impact gun! What you have is probably correct torque and just need to get it off with the puller. Keep me posted if you get it off ok. Thanks for watching!
Anything Over 60 foot pounds of torque will do that to the tapered key type clutch hub , knowing that , you also know its a weak hub . I worked on a 84 fxr from 1 end to the other about 2 years ago , rotted gas lines , crap in the tank , intake boots , carb dirty , ecm sending over 5 volts to the pickup , not charging , clutch wore out , rims ate up inside an etc .... DONT buy any of that vfactor electric parts (find out the brand before buying) , the stator shorted out , put in cycle electric stator an no problem . I put a S & S E shorty rubber pump diaphragm in the carb 10 times better than the rebuild kit one , more responsive . I have the cycle electric regulator on my 08 ultra 3 years no problem , it shuts the power off when charged , instead of sending the power to ground and heating up the stator like the harley regulator does , lowbrow customs had the cheapest price when I got mine . I think what happened to the cheap vfactor stator was when I torqued the stator bolts down , those stacked thin metal plates spread a little inside the windings an cut threw the winding insulation an shorted out to ground , I was reading ground to the engine block before I unbolted the stator , none afterwards , no marks anywhere on the stator .
I can’t wait to own one
Keep saving the money! You’ll get it! Thanks for watching! 👍🏻
Tim bike is dope!! Had a ball ripping it till these repairs needed to be done. Find one and snag it. They arent making them again any time soon.
