My beloved Mum sang this to me when I was a child, Jamaica was her home and she loved the island with all her heart. God Bless you my darling, I miss and love you so much.
This song reminds me of a verse from the Bible, "Then God saw everything that He had made and indeed it was very good."(Genesis ch. 1, v. 31) I loved hearing the words , "forest, waters, shining sand," things that only God can create. Then it was wonderful to see people, who are created in the image of God, going about their work and see what they have accomplished with their God-given abilities. We thank God for the great talent that he gave to Harry Belafonte!

Wrong both his parents are from Saint Elizabeth Jamaica. There's a video on youtube where he clearly states both parents are from Jamaica. Many people have written his father was from Martinique which is incorrect. The Belafonte family still resides in Jamaica. Smaller islands always trying to shoot down Jamaica, really pathetic.
