JOSEPH WILLIAMS, who was born without a jaw, never thought he would find love - until he met his wife, Vania. The 41-year-old from Chicago has a rare congenital disorder, otofacial syndrome, which left him unable to speak or eat with his mouth. Instead, he relies on an eating tube and communicates through a mobile device and sign language. In 2019, Joseph and Vania met at work and became friends. Despite Joseph's facial difference, Vania fell in love with him. Their relationship has faced judgement from families, friends and even strangers online - but the couple, who have been happily married for two years, believes their love goes way beyond their physical difference.

I know someone who was born with one normal arm, and the other one ends at the elbow. I often forget she has one 🤷🏻♀️
I had a friend who’s blind and can also attest to this! I see her for who she is as a whole person

I know a 90yo deaf man who is my absolute best friend. I've been learning sign since we met and he is so so beautiful. His soul is the literal best. Different doesn't mean dangerous. Give different a chance yall.
So true, I have a stutter and my friends and family will forget until someone asks about it out of curiosity. My husband has always been very kind, patient, understanding and helpful. My speech has improved a lot because of him, thankfully, I've always had a good support system though♥️

As someone with a physical difference, although less severe, I appreciate when people accept me but don’t feel like they need to tip-toe around my difference. I have to applaud Vania for telling the truth about her initial feelings. Not many people are mature enough to admit what she did. But I'm also appalled at how many people assume that because Jo is different that his marriage must be a fake or not going well. @@SoftPico920 they can if they want to, if you're worried about the child having otofacial syndrome as well there's two points: their father would have extremely good knowledge of the disorder so the likelihood of the child dying would be decreased quite a bit. plus, otofacial syndrome is extremely rare, so it's more likely the child will not have the disorder.

Good for both of these people. Just two good people who know their worth and can receive love. As a disabled person myself it’s hard to deal with people and I’ve pushed a lot of people away most of my life. I commend this man for being so open and being able to receive his blessings. God always has a plan for us.

I love that he shared how he wishes people would just ask them questions rather than gawking... I'm a wheelchair user with a central line and I've always felt the same way. People are always so terrified to ask questions, worried that they'll offend me, but I'd much rather have the opportunity to educate someone about my rare condition rather than just be stared at. This is something I hear all the time from other disabled people as well.
Agreed and don't stop children from engaging (within reason). It helps later for them to engage kindly with others dis/able. In my experience.

If people can't ask a simple question without being rude it's on them same with the person who is receiving the question if they get offended easily then that's on them if they can't explain what's going on. Same with my disability I just explain each limitation as best I can

You know, as a person who had a 14 hour surgery in which I had a near total submandibularectomy (removed most of my lower jaw) in which my left fibula bone was used to reconstruct my jaw I completely understand this. I was in the hospital for 5 months and they were almost not able to do what they did. I would have had a permanent trach, feeding tube, and not able to speak any longer. It is a blessing that he is able to find love with someone who loves him enough to eventually look past the outer exterior to look at the inner person.✨️

He found someone because he has a beautiful spirit. They both do. We find people based on our energy( spirit). If your spirit is negative that’s what you’ll attract.

"People running from me becuse they are scared" that made me sad. When I was young I became super interested in diseases and disorders of the body, which makes me glad. I've never been shocked or scared of anyone's appearance or physical anomalies. They can't help it and they are some of the most beautiful people I've even met.
